To use Google Sheets without internet, enable offline access while you are still connected, then make each important spreadsheet available offline. On a computer, use Chrome or Microsoft Edge and Google’s Docs Offline extension. On a phone or tablet, use the Google Sheets app and save files for offline access there.
Enable Google Sheets offline on a computer
Google’s desktop workflow supports Chrome and Microsoft Edge. Set it up while online; private or incognito browsing is not supported. Google’s live help pages do not show a publication date.

Connect to the internet and sign in to the Google account that can access the spreadsheet.

Use Chrome or Microsoft Edge, with private browsing turned off. Install and enable the Google Docs Offline extension. Google says Edge users are redirected to the Chrome Web Store to get the extension.

Check that the computer has enough free storage for offline files.

In Google Drive, select Settings > Settings, then turn on Offline. Google also supports enabling offline access in Docs, Sheets, or Slides settings, or through the document-status control beside a file title.

Open the Google Sheets home screen. For the spreadsheet you need, open its More menu and select Available offline. A checkmark indicates it is available. If the spreadsheet is already open, you can instead select File > Make available offline.

To check readiness, open the spreadsheet and select See document status beside its title. Google says this control explains when a file is not ready for offline editing.
Only one Google account per browser profile can have desktop offline access enabled. If you need offline access for another account, use a separate browser profile. An administrator can also disable offline access for an account.
Enable offline access in the Google Sheets mobile app
On Android and iPhone or iPad, use the Google Sheets app. You can save recent files automatically when enabled, or select individual spreadsheets that must be available offline.

Open the Docs, Sheets, or Slides app and select Menu > Settings > Make recent files available offline to enable offline access for recent files.

To save one spreadsheet specifically, open its More menu and select Make available offline.

To find saved files later, open Menu > Offline.

What happens to offline edits?
Edits made offline are applied when the device reconnects. Google Drive Help warns that “New changes overwrite previous changes” and points users to version history to review edits. That warning is not a promise of conflict-free merging, so do not rely on simultaneous offline editing to reconcile competing changes. See Google’s guidance on offline files.
Troubleshoot offline access or syncing

A file is missing offline: Explicitly mark important spreadsheets as available offline rather than assuming every Drive file is saved. Recent files may be saved automatically when there is enough local storage, but that convenience does not guarantee every file is cached.

The desktop option is unavailable: Confirm you are online, signed in, using Chrome or Edge outside private browsing, and have enabled the Docs Offline extension. Check local storage as well. An administrator may have disabled offline access.

You use more than one account: Desktop offline access works for one account per browser profile. Switch to a separate profile for the other account.

Sync appears stuck: Google suggests reloading, checking the internet connection, toggling offline access for the file, or clearing site data. If the file still will not sync, Google says it may be too large and recommends making smaller files.

You use Drive for desktop: Do not confuse its streaming or mirroring behavior with the web workflow for Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides. Google directs users to Drive on the web for those file types.
