Add a SoundCloud Embed block in WordPress, paste in the public track, playlist, or album link copied from SoundCloud’s Share dialog, then select Embed. WordPress supports SoundCloud as an oEmbed provider, so the basic workflow does not require a plugin.
Embed a SoundCloud track in WordPress
- Copy the SoundCloud link. Open the track on SoundCloud, select Share, and copy its link.
- Add the SoundCloud block. In the WordPress post or page editor, open the block inserter and choose SoundCloud Embed. You can also type
/SoundCloudin a new paragraph to find the block. - Paste and embed. Paste the copied URL into the block and select Embed. WordPress displays a preview in the editor when it can retrieve the embed.
- Check the published layout. Preview the page on the front end to see how the player appears with your theme.
The same process works with a SoundCloud playlist or album URL; WordPress documents that the embed displays the complete track list. The content must be public, but you do not need a SoundCloud account to embed it. WordPress.com’s SoundCloud embed instructions document the block workflow and its settings.
What oEmbed does in this workflow
oEmbed lets a site such as WordPress request the HTML needed to display content from a provider. WordPress lists SoundCloud as a sanctioned provider, which is why a supported SoundCloud URL can be turned into a player through the native block. WordPress applies security restrictions to providers outside its whitelist, so do not assume that pasting an arbitrary embed URL will work automatically. WordPress’s provider reference lists sanctioned providers.
WordPress Developer Resources describes oEmbed this way: “The easy embedding feature is mostly powered by oEmbed, a protocol for consumers (such as your blog) to ask providers (such as YouTube) for the HTML needed to embed content from the provider.” The documentation was updated July 7, 2025. Adjust the player’s width and responsiveness
After inserting the block, use its alignment controls to position it left, center, or right, or choose wide or full width. Wide and full-width layouts depend on theme support; if those options do not produce the expected width, the theme may not support them.
The block’s media setting controls resizing on smaller screens. WordPress documents responsive behavior as on by default, preserving the embed’s aspect ratio. Check the front-end preview to confirm the player fits your site’s layout. WordPress’s SoundCloud block guide covers its alignment and responsive settings.
If WordPress cannot embed the link
WordPress may report that the content could not be embedded. Try copying the link again from SoundCloud’s Share dialog and pasting a different supported URL. If the embed still does not appear, convert the block to a link instead. The documented workflow requires public content, and not every URL is guaranteed to produce an embed. WordPress documents these recovery options.
When to use a SoundCloud plugin
For a standard player, start with WordPress’s built-in SoundCloud block. An optional plugin, Player for SoundCloud by bPlugins, advertises a Gutenberg block for tracks and playlists with additional controls for player color, artwork, and visible controls. Its WordPress.org listing describes it as free. Consider it only if you need those customization options; it is not required for basic embedding.

Embedding is not uploading
