The widget can show public server information such as online members, voice or stage channels, and an invitation, but it is not a full Discord chat window.
What you need before embedding
- Administrator-level access to the Discord server’s settings, or permission to manage its widget.
- Permission in WordPress to save iframe HTML. On some sites, only administrators or users with unfiltered HTML capability can do this.
- A page, post, sidebar, footer, or theme template location where the widget should appear.
If you use WordPress.com, advanced iframe or script insertion may require a plugin-enabled plan. Self-hosted WordPress installations can also filter iframe markup through user-role settings, security plugins, hosting rules, or the active editor.
Enable the official Discord widget and copy its code
- Open Discord and select the server you want to display.
- Open Server Settings.
- Select Widget.
- Turn on Enable Server Widget.
- Review the widget’s invite settings, then copy the generated HTML. Discord may also offer JSON output; use the HTML option for a WordPress page.
Use the code Discord generates for your server rather than substituting a guessed server ID or copying an invite-page URL. A typical generated iframe has this shape:

Discord can change generated attributes over time, so treat the current snippet in your server settings as authoritative.

Insert the widget in WordPress
Use a Custom HTML block in the block editor
- Edit the page or post where the widget should appear.
- Click the + inserter and add a Custom HTML block.
- Paste the complete iframe copied from Discord.
- Choose Preview in the block to check the result.
- Save or publish the page.
The Custom HTML block is the reliable choice because Discord supplies an iframe snippet, not merely a standalone page URL. WordPress’s generic Embed block is designed primarily for pasting a supported third-party URL; pasting a Discord invite URL there does not guarantee that the live server widget will appear.
Place it in a sidebar or footer
In a block-based theme, open Appearance → Editor, choose the relevant template or template part, and add a Custom HTML block. In a classic theme, open Appearance → Widgets, select the sidebar or footer area, add a Custom HTML widget, and paste the iframe. The exact menu names can vary by theme and WordPress version.
Adjust size, theme, and responsive behavior
Discord’s generated code normally includes width, height, and a theme parameter. You can change the dimensions after confirming that the widget works:

- Use
theme=darkfor dark layouts ortheme=lightwhere supported by the generated widget. - Set a height large enough to show useful member and channel information without excessive empty space.
- Keep the width inside the page’s content column. A fixed width such as
350pixels can overflow on narrow phones. - Use the block’s width controls or your theme’s additional CSS to constrain the iframe to the available space.
Test the published page at desktop and mobile widths. If a fixed iframe is wider than its parent container, visitors may see horizontal scrolling or clipped content.

What the Discord widget actually displays
The official server widget is a public, read-only snapshot. Discord documents data fields for:
- The server ID and server name.
- An optional instant invite.
- Accessible voice and stage channels.
- Widget member objects, including the publicly exposed online users.
- A
presence_countvalue.
The documented member structure is limited to 100 widget users. The widget does not embed Discord’s text-chat interface, let visitors read all channel history, or provide a way to send messages from WordPress. If your goal is simply to invite visitors, a normal WordPress Button block linked to a Discord invite is a smaller and more predictable alternative.

Official iframe or WordPress plugin?
Start with Discord’s own iframe unless you need a plugin’s additional presentation or controls.

Plugin-specific cautions
The WordPress.org Discord Display listing describes a native server widget, but older reviews on that listing report issues such as missing buttons, non-clickable channels, or a zero online count. Those are historical user reports, not a guarantee of current behavior.
TAL Server Widget for Discord describes online counts, member lists, avatars, status indicators, server branding, and an invitation button. Its listing says it uses Discord’s public Server Widget API and does not require a bot token or Discord application. Before installing either plugin, check its latest update date, supported WordPress and PHP versions, privacy policy, required permissions, and whether it still uses Discord’s public widget endpoint.

Troubleshoot a missing or broken widget
Nothing appears
- Return to Discord’s Server Settings → Widget and confirm that the server widget is enabled.
- Verify that the iframe’s
idmatches the intended server. Copy the code again rather than editing the identifier manually. - Check the page’s published view, not only the editor canvas; some editors do not render external iframes in editing mode.
The iframe disappears after saving
Use a Custom HTML block instead of a paragraph or ordinary text block. If WordPress removes the iframe on save, test with an administrator account and inspect security plugins, hosting filters, user-role HTML restrictions, and any editor setting that sanitizes markup.
The widget is too wide or too short
Change the iframe’s width and height, or apply the block and theme’s dimension controls. Keep the width within the content column and retest at phone width to prevent overflow.
Invite or member information is missing
Review the server’s widget and invite settings. The public widget exposes only the fields Discord documents; it cannot display private channels, arbitrary member data, or full chat content.

WordPress.com rejects the code
Confirm that the site’s WordPress.com plan supports advanced Custom HTML and iframe insertion. If it does not, use a supported plan or replace the live widget with a standard button linking to your Discord invite.
Choose the simplest implementation
For most WordPress sites, the official iframe is the best starting point: it comes directly from Discord, requires no bot token, and can be placed anywhere WordPress accepts Custom HTML. Choose a plugin only when its native styling or controls solve a specific layout need and its current compatibility and privacy terms are acceptable.
