LinkedIn lets you edit the post’s text, but shared rich media—including photos—cannot be replaced. To use a corrected image, save anything you need, delete the original post, and publish a new one. If the post is still a draft, replace the image in the composer before publishing.
What LinkedIn lets you edit
LinkedIn treats the written caption and the attached media as different parts of a shared post. The Edit post command changes the text only. It does not provide an image editor or a control for swapping the published photo. LinkedIn’s documented wording is that “Only the text in a post can be edited”; photos, articles, documents and videos are shared rich media that cannot be replaced.
- Caption and text: editable after publication.
- Uploaded photo: not replaceable in the existing standard feed post.
- Alt text: can be added while uploading an image, but it does not change the pixels or replace an already-published file.
- URL preview: a separate object with its own pre-publication controls on eligible LinkedIn Pages.
If the post is still a draft
Correct the file before you publish it. In the post composer, remove the incorrect image, upload the revised file, and check the preview. Select Alt.text below the uploaded image, enter a concise description, and save it. LinkedIn says this description helps people using voice-over screen readers understand the image and is not visible to members who do not use screen readers.
- Open the post composer and attach the corrected image.
- Remove the wrong image if it is already attached.
- Select Alt.text below the image.
- Describe the meaningful content—for example, “Dashboard showing monthly sign-ups rising from January through March.”
- Save the alt text, review the crop and caption, then publish.
Alt text is an accessibility description, not a photo-editing feature. Make the visual correction in an image editor first, then upload the finished file.

Edit the text of a published standard post
If only the wording is wrong, you can keep the existing image and edit the caption. LinkedIn documents the same route on desktop and mobile:
- Find your post.
- Open the More menu (the three-dot menu) in the post’s upper-right corner.
- Choose Edit post.
- Revise the text and save.
An Edited label appears beside the post after the change. This workflow does not unlock image replacement; the attached photo remains the same.
Replace an image after publication
For an ordinary member feed post, the supported route is to delete the post and create a replacement post with the corrected image.
Before deleting
- Copy the caption into a local note.
- Save the original and corrected image files, including the final crop you intend to use.
- Record useful comments, mentions, hashtags and the post’s URL if you need an internal record.
- Decide whether losing the original reactions and comments is acceptable; a new post starts with no history.
Delete and repost
- Open the post’s More menu.
- Choose the delete option and confirm.
- Start a new post.
- Upload the corrected image, add or paste the caption, set alt text, and verify the preview.
- Publish the replacement.
Deleting is not an edit-in-place operation. It removes the original engagement record, so use it only when the visual error justifies starting over.

When the problem is a link preview, not an uploaded photo
A post that contains a website URL can show a generated preview image and title. That is different from a photo you uploaded directly. On a LinkedIn Page, a Page super or content admin can customize this preview before publishing:
- Paste the URL into the Start a post box.
- Select the edit icon below the text box.
- Choose an image or edit the title.
- Review the preview and publish.
LinkedIn’s guidance for this Page URL-preview image is a 1.91:1 ratio, or 1200 × 627 pixels. An image wider than 200 pixels is needed for the larger preview format. On mobile, images are not cropped; other ratios appear in full with subtle white padding.
If the source page’s preview image or title changed, LinkedIn says its share box may remember the last shared link’s content for three days. It advises waiting three days before sharing the same URL when you need the updated preview metadata. That timing applies to URL previews, not to replacing an uploaded photo in an existing post.
LinkedIn Page posts
A Page super or content admin can edit a Page post’s text through Page posts: find the post, open More, choose Edit post, make the change and save. Sponsored-post editing has additional eligibility and permission requirements, including the applicable Page and advertising-account access. The documented Page-post workflow does not establish that every published uploaded image can be swapped, so treat image replacement as a delete-and-repost job unless LinkedIn shows a specific control for your post type.
LinkedIn articles are a separate workflow
Do not use the feed-post instructions for a LinkedIn article. A published personal article can be edited:

- Go to Me > Manage > Post & Activity > Articles.
- Open the article’s More menu.
- Select Edit article.
- Make the changes and select Update.
The mobile app does not provide this article-editing feature. Connections are not notified of article updates, and the original version is no longer available after you save. If you deleted an article image accidentally, undo cannot restore it; upload the image again.
For an article published as a LinkedIn Page, a Page super or content admin finds it in the Page Updates feed, chooses Edit article, makes changes and selects Update.
