To edit a contact on your iPhone, open Contacts, select the person, tap Edit, make your changes, then tap Done. You can add an email address, update the photo, and look for the Notes field on the edit screen.
Edit an existing contact
- Open the Contacts app and tap the contact you want to change.
- Tap Edit.
- Update existing details or add a field, such as an email address.
- Tap Done to save.

Add or change a contact photo
Open the contact, tap Edit, then tap the photo control to choose or change the image. The available choices and presentation can vary by iOS version.
To edit your own contact card, open Contacts > My Card > Edit, then tap the photo. Apple’s current iPhone guide also describes customizing your photo and Contact Poster. You can choose how your name and photo are shared, including Contacts Only or Always Ask. See Apple’s instructions for editing your Contact Poster.

Add an email address or choose which address to use
On the contact’s edit screen, add an email field and enter the address, then tap Done. To use an address already saved on a card, tap its email action to start composing a message. If the card has multiple addresses, touch and hold the email action to choose the default address, as described in Apple’s iPhone email instructions.
Add or edit a note
Open the contact and tap Edit, then look for the Notes field, enter or change the text, and tap Done. Apple’s current iPhone editing guide does not specify the Notes field’s exact placement or wording. Apple’s older iPod touch instructions do identify Notes as a field in the contact editor, but its interface may differ from current iPhone software.

If you can’t find or change the contact
Contacts on an iPhone can come from accounts such as iCloud, Google, Yahoo, Microsoft Exchange, LDAP, or CardDAV. If a contact is missing, appears in the wrong place, or cannot be edited, check which account supplies it. On current iPhone software, open Settings > Apps > Contacts to review Contacts accounts and the default account for new contacts. Apple’s account guidance is at Add or remove accounts on iPhone.
You can also edit contacts using iCloud Contacts on a computer or tablet. Changes appear on devices where Contacts is enabled in iCloud settings. See Apple’s iCloud Contacts editing instructions.
