Yes—an eligible creator in India can earn recurring revenue from YouTube channel memberships while running a looping livestream. The loop itself is not expressly banned, but YouTube reviews the channel for original, authentic content, and repetitive or mass-produced programming can put monetization at risk. Meeting the eligibility thresholds does not guarantee acceptance or income.

What you need before you can turn on memberships

YouTube lists India among the locations where channel memberships are available. The current early-access YouTube Partner Programme (YPP) thresholds for fan-funding features, including memberships, are:

  • At least 500 subscribers.
  • At least three public uploads in the previous 90 days.
  • Either 3,000 qualified public long-form watch hours in the previous 365 days, or 3 million qualified public Shorts views in the previous 90 days.

These are channel thresholds, not automatic approval. Memberships also require that you are at least 18, live in a supported location, accept YouTube’s Commerce Product Module, and have a channel that meets feature and content rules. Your channel must not be set as Made for Kids and must not have a significant number of ineligible videos. Some music channels under SRAV are not eligible. Check the current YouTube channel-membership requirements because availability and eligibility rules can change.

Apply to YPP and enable channel memberships

  1. In YouTube Studio, open Earn and review the eligibility status shown for your channel. Apply when the option is available.
  2. Complete the YPP signup steps, including linking an active AdSense for YouTube account and accepting the applicable terms and modules.
  3. Wait for YouTube’s channel review. YouTube assesses the channel as a whole for policy compliance; reaching the numeric thresholds does not guarantee approval.
  4. After you are accepted and memberships are available, open the memberships setup in Studio, turn the feature on, and create membership levels and perks.
  5. Make sure every perk follows YouTube’s membership policies. Examples of permitted benefits include badges, emojis, member-only posts, videos, and live chats. Prohibited perks include downloads of content already available on YouTube, in-person one-to-one meetings, and random contests, lotteries, or sweepstakes.

Use YouTube’s membership setup and policy guidance for the current Studio flow and perk rules.

Can a 24/7 loop qualify for monetization?

YouTube’s channel monetization policy applies to livestreams as well as uploaded videos. It expects content to be original and authentic; content that is mass-produced, generic, repetitive, or manipulative may be ineligible. The policy does not declare every looping livestream prohibited, nor does it publish a special safe harbor or a definitive pass/fail test for loops.

The practical question is whether the channel offers distinctive value rather than simply replaying interchangeable material. YouTube says reviewers may consider the channel’s main theme, its newest and most-viewed videos, which videos account for the largest share of watch time, metadata, and the About section. As you prepare the channel:

  • Use material you have the rights to stream and make the programming meaningfully original or valuable to viewers.
  • Clearly describe what is live and what is replayed; do not present a replay as a live camera broadcast.
  • Review the channel’s full catalogue, titles, descriptions, and About section—not only the looping stream.
  • Avoid relying on minor changes to otherwise repetitive or mass-produced content as evidence of originality.

These are practical steps based on YouTube’s published criteria, not a guarantee that a particular channel will pass review. Read the current channel monetization policies.

Do livestream watch hours count toward eligibility?

They can count only when they meet YouTube’s qualified public watch-hour rules. YouTube says livestreams that are unlisted, deleted, or not converted to video on demand (VOD) do not count toward the public watch-hour threshold. Keeping an eligible stream’s archive public may make its viewing relevant to the threshold, but not every streamed hour necessarily qualifies. The channel must still meet the broader requirements and pass review.

Check the YPP eligibility and watch-hour guidance and the status shown in Studio rather than estimating eligibility from a stream’s total runtime or viewer-hours alone.

How memberships pay—and what the percentage means

Memberships are recurring monthly payments from viewers in exchange for member-only perks. YouTube’s current earnings guidance says partners who accept the Commerce Product Module receive 70% of net revenues from channel memberships, Super Chat, Super Stickers, and Super Thanks. That is a share of net revenue under the applicable agreement—not 70% of the displayed membership price or a guaranteed take-home amount. Transaction taxes such as GST are not treated as revenue in the partner-share calculation, and creators may have tax obligations in their country of residence.

YouTube does not publish a typical Indian creator’s membership earnings or a fixed rupee payout per member. The amount you receive depends on channel-specific prices, billing, taxes, refunds, and the agreement that applies to your account. YouTube also says there is no guarantee about how much—or whether—a partner will be paid. Review the terms in Studio and YouTube’s partner earnings guidance instead of projecting income from the headline percentage.

Other revenue features to consider

Memberships suit a creator who can deliver ongoing member value. Other features may complement them, but each has its own eligibility and setup requirements:

Keeping the loop running without leaving a computer on

If you run the stream yourself, your chosen streaming setup and internet connection must remain available for the broadcast. For a cloud option, StreamNeo keeps an uploaded video or playlist looping to YouTube after you add your stream key; it does not stream from a camera and it streams to YouTube only. It handles stream recovery if YouTube drops the connection, but using a cloud loop does not change YouTube’s monetization or originality requirements.

Or let it run in the cloud

  1. Upload a recording or build a playlist.
  2. Add your YouTube stream key once.
  3. Go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded content from the cloud.

Nothing has to stay on at home. Every slot streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers, and includes automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required. Monthly: $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or start the free trial.
