You can earn from eligible YouTube live streams through two kinds of fan-funding features: Super Chat and Super Stickers, which highlight paid chat messages or animated stickers, and Gifts, which viewers send using Jewels and which earn creators Rubies. To use them, meet each feature’s eligibility rules, accept its separate agreement in YouTube Studio, and enable it for eligible streams. YouTube publishes the payout calculations, but it does not guarantee a particular amount of income.
How the three features differ

These are different platform calculations, not estimates of what a particular channel will earn. Viewer purchases, stream eligibility, audience behavior, and availability all affect whether any revenue is generated.
Check eligibility before planning a stream
Super Chat and Super Stickers
You need to meet YouTube’s fan-funding requirements, live in a location where the features are available, follow the applicable terms and policies, and accept the Commerce Product Module (CPM), or the older Commerce Product Addendum if that is the agreement available to you. YouTube says the broad fan-funding baseline includes being in the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), being at least 18, and living where the particular feature is available. Check the Supers card in Studio’s Earn area for channel-specific access; do not assume that meeting an early-access YPP threshold automatically enables Supers. Supers are not available on age-restricted, unlisted, private, Made for Kids, or YouTube Giving fundraiser videos, or when live chat or comments are turned off. A channel may be eligible while a particular stream is not.

Gifts
Gifts have a separate eligibility path. You must be in YPP, be at least 18, have a verified AdSense account or another age-verification method Google accepts, live in a supported country or region, and accept the Virtual Items Module (VI Module). YouTube describes Gifts on eligible vertical and horizontal livestreams. It may prompt you to complete AdSense identity verification when you try to enable Gifts. Gifts are not available on age-restricted, Made for Kids, unlisted, or private live streams; YouTube Giving fundraisers; or streams with live chat or comments turned off. Country lists for Gifts and Supers are separate and can change, so check the current Help page for each feature and your Studio Earn area rather than assuming availability from one feature to the other.
Turn on Super Chat and Super Stickers
- Sign in to YouTube Studio and select Earn.
- Open the Supers tab or card. It appears for channels with access.
- Select Get started and complete the on-screen steps, including accepting the CPM if prompted. If you already signed the former Commerce Product Addendum, follow the agreement presented for your account.
- Use the switches to turn on Super Chat, Super Stickers, or both.
- Before going live, confirm the stream is public/otherwise eligible and live chat is enabled. Once enabled for the channel, Supers can appear automatically on eligible live streams and Premieres. Manage YouTube Super Chat & Super Stickers
YouTube’s mobile instructions also route creators through Earn and the Supers card. If a third party administers your channel’s rights, YouTube advises checking with that party first.

Turn on Gifts
- Open YouTube Studio and select Earn.
- On desktop, open Supers & gifts; on mobile, open Gifts.
- Select Turn on gifts or Get Started, then follow the prompts to accept the VI Module and complete any requested verification.
- Confirm that Gifts are enabled and that your planned stream meets the format, location, and stream restrictions.
- After a stream, check YouTube Analytics > Revenue > How you make money > Gifts for the Gifts revenue breakdown. Set up and manage Gifts
You can switch Gifts off from the Earn area. Turning the feature off removes it from eligible streams; historical earnings remain available in Analytics.
What the published payout figures mean
Supers: 70% of confirmed revenue, not 70% of the viewer’s gross payment
YouTube says creators receive 70% of Supers revenue confirmed by Google. The calculation is made after local sales tax and iOS App Store fees are deducted; YouTube currently covers transaction costs, including credit-card fees. That is the relevant published Supers wording, not a promise that a creator receives 70% of every amount a viewer sees at checkout. Gifts: Jewels become Rubies under YouTube’s stated formula
YouTube’s Virtual Items policy states that every two Jewels redeemed for Gifts earn one Ruby, and that it pays $0.01 per Ruby. Use Analytics and finalized statements appropriately
Supers and Gifts reporting is in YouTube Analytics under Revenue and How you make money. Analytics revenue can be estimated and later adjusted, so use finalized account statements and your current Studio reporting for accounting. Make the features understandable to viewers
YouTube’s creator guidance suggests thanking contributors in real time, reading and responding to chat, letting fans know Supers are enabled and explaining how to use them, setting a community goal, and using formats such as Q&A or audience-submitted challenges. Supers and viewer messages remain subject to YouTube policies and Community Guidelines. YouTube says that if it removes a Super Chat or Super Sticker for a policy violation, it donates its portion of the revenue to charity. Review the current feature policies before a stream, especially if you use moderation settings or plan a fundraiser.
