To download one image, right-click it and choose your browser’s save-image command. For many images on one page, install an image-downloader extension from your browser’s official store, review its permissions, filter the images, select the files, and start the download. The files normally appear in the browser’s configured Downloads folder or a subfolder chosen by the extension.
Choose the right method first
A browser extension is useful when a page contains dozens of images and you need to find, filter, and save several of them. It is not required for a single, normally exposed image.
- One image: use the image context menu and save it directly.
- Several images: use an image-downloader extension that can scan the active page.
- A page that does not expose an image: the extension may not find it. Do not assume a listing guarantees compatibility with every site or that it retrieves an original-resolution file.
Only download material you are allowed to copy. An extension should not be used to bypass access controls, paywalls, or other technical restrictions.
Save a single image without an extension
- Open the page containing the image.
- Right-click the image (or use the browser’s equivalent context-menu gesture).
- Choose the command labelled something like Save image as or Download image.
- Pick a filename and destination if a save dialog appears, then confirm.
If the browser downloads immediately, open its download list to locate the file. Chrome’s download help explains that you can manage downloaded files and move them to another folder. Labels and prompts differ by browser version and settings.

Download multiple images with an extension
1. Install from the official store
Open the extension store for your browser and search for an image downloader compatible with that browser. Examples are listed in the Chrome Web Store and Mozilla Add-ons. Check the publisher, supported browser, recent update information, and the permissions requested before selecting Add or Install.
2. Read the permission request
A downloader needs a way to inspect images on the page. The Chrome Web Store listing for Image Downloader says it accesses page content when its popup is activated. Firefox’s Image Downloader listing includes access to browser tabs. These permissions can be legitimate for the stated function, but they give the extension visibility into page content or tabs. Chrome Help describes how users can review and choose available permission options. Install only from the relevant browser store and remove extensions you no longer use.
3. Open the target page
Navigate to the page before activating the extension. Some extensions only scan the active tab when their toolbar popup is opened. If the page is still loading, wait until the images you need are visible; lazy-loaded content may not be present for the extension to discover.
4. Scan and narrow the results
Click the extension’s toolbar icon and inspect the image list or thumbnails. Depending on the extension, filters can include:
- minimum or maximum file size;
- image dimensions;
- URL or filename text;
- file type such as JPG, PNG, GIF, or WebP; and
- duplicate removal.
Feature names, filter behavior, and defaults vary by extension version. A filter may describe the URL or resource the page exposed rather than the final file after redirects.

5. Select and download
Select individual images or use the extension’s select-all control, then choose its download command. Listings for several downloaders describe saving selected files to the browser’s default download directory or to a specified subfolder. Your browser may ask for permission to download multiple files; allow it only when you initiated the action and recognize the extension.
6. Find the files
Open the browser’s downloads page or download list and use its Show in folder or equivalent command. If the extension offered a custom subfolder, check that location. Sort by date or file type when a page produced many similarly named files. Rename files after downloading if the site supplied unhelpful names.

These are advertised listing features, not independent quality or security tests. No reliable performance ranking establishes that one extension is fastest or finds more images than another. Compare supported browser, permission scope, filtering, duplicate handling, and destination controls.
Why an extension may miss an image
The page uses a background or generated image
Some visuals are CSS backgrounds, canvas output, or generated only after scripts run. A basic image scanner may not expose them as ordinary image URLs.
The image has not loaded yet
Infinite-scroll and lazy-loading pages may add images only after scrolling. Scroll through the page, wait for thumbnails to appear, and scan again. This still does not guarantee that every responsive or deferred asset will be found.

The page exposes a thumbnail, not the original
An extension can usually download the URL it discovers. If that URL points to a resized derivative, the saved file may be a thumbnail. Do not treat a larger-looking filename or a filter result as proof that the original is available.
The site requires authentication or blocks automated access
An extension operating in your tab may still be unable to retrieve an asset that requires a separate request, token, or permission. Sign in through the site’s normal interface and follow its terms; do not attempt to circumvent restrictions.

Hotlink protection, expired URLs, network failures, and removed files can produce broken downloads. Try the page’s own download control, reload the page, or save an image that is visibly available through the normal browser menu.
Permissions and privacy checklist
- Install from the official Chrome Web Store or Mozilla Add-ons site for your browser.
- Read the publisher name, description, update information, and requested permissions.
- Ask why the extension needs access to page content, tabs, downloads, or browsing activity.
- Prefer an extension whose access can be limited to the active site or activated only when you click it.
- Disable or uninstall it when the task is finished if you do not need ongoing access.
- Review the browser’s extension-management page periodically; store presence is not a security guarantee.
Troubleshooting common failures
No images appear in the popup
Confirm that the target tab is active, reload it, wait for visible images, and activate the extension again. Check whether the extension is allowed on that site. If the page uses canvas, CSS backgrounds, or a restricted frame, the extension may not support that content.
The download button does nothing
Look for a browser prompt asking permission to download multiple files. Check that the browser is not blocking automatic downloads and that the destination disk has space. Select one image first to determine whether the problem is the batch operation.

Files are in an unexpected folder
Open the browser’s download settings and download list. The extension may use the default Downloads directory, a subfolder, or a path selected in its own options. Change the location before starting another batch.

Enable duplicate removal if the extension provides it, then filter by dimensions or file type before selecting. Responsive pages often expose multiple sizes of the same picture; inspect URLs and pixel dimensions rather than relying only on filenames.
The browser warns about permissions
Pause and reread the request. Grant access only if it matches the extension’s stated operation and the site you intend to scan. Otherwise cancel installation and choose a different extension or the browser’s built-in save command.

Practical cost and reliability notes
Browser extensions are generally sufficient for occasional, manual downloads, but results depend on the current page, browser, extension version, and permissions. For recurring captures, a controlled API request is easier to automate and log.
