To install Google’s Gemini desktop app on Windows 11, download GeminiSetup.exe from Google’s official Gemini desktop page, run the installer, then open Gemini from Start and sign in. Google supports Windows 10 and later, including x64 and ARM64 PCs; the stated minimums are 8 GB of RAM and 200 MB of free disk space.
Check your PC and Google Account first
Google’s published requirements for the Windows app are:
- Windows 10 or later. Windows 11 qualifies; Google’s download FAQ lists both x64 and ARM64 support.
- At least 8 GB of RAM.
- At least 200 MB of free disk space.
- A stable internet connection.
- A personal Google Account, or a work or school Google Account with Gemini access enabled by its administrator.
These are Google’s stated minimum requirements, not a guarantee that every Gemini feature will be available. Availability follows the countries and languages supported by the Gemini app, and features may vary by location, account, age, or subscription. Install Gemini on Windows 11
- On the Windows 11 PC, go to https://gemini.google/desktop/.
- Select the Windows download and save
GeminiSetup.exe. - Open the downloaded installer and follow the on-screen instructions to complete setup.
- Open Gemini from the Windows Start menu.
- Sign in with your Google Account. If you are using a work or school account and cannot access Gemini, your organization may need to enable it.
Use Google’s page for the installer rather than downloading an executable from an unofficial site.

Launch Gemini quickly and apply updates
After installation, press Alt + Space to summon Gemini. Google says you can customize this shortcut in the app’s settings. When an update is available, the app displays a notification and offers a Restart option to apply it. See Google’s Windows app instructions for the current details.
What you can do in the desktop app
Google describes the app as a way to get quick answers, draft text, summarize articles, documents, and web pages, brainstorm, get coding help, and analyze images. Google’s desktop page also describes access to information from Gmail, Drive, Docs, and Calendar, as well as desktop creative tools. Treat these as examples rather than a promise that every tool is available to every user: access can depend on account type, location, age, or subscription. Google’s Windows launch announcement notes that some capabilities require a Google AI subscription, vary in availability, and are for users aged 18 or older.

Work or school account access
Installing the app does not override your organization’s access rules. Google says Workspace access is governed by the organization’s existing Generative AI settings; the feature is on by default for organizations with Gemini enabled. If Gemini is blocked or missing for your work or school account, contact your administrator to check whether access is enabled.

- The installer will not run: Confirm that the PC is running Windows 10 or later and that it uses x64 or ARM64 architecture. Check that it meets the memory and free-space minimums, then download the installer again from Google’s desktop page.
- Gemini opens but you cannot sign in: Check that you are using a Google Account. For managed accounts, ask the administrator whether Gemini access is enabled.
- A feature is unavailable: The desktop app does not make every capability universally available. Check country and language support, and consider whether account type, age, or subscription affects the feature.
