Chrome does not provide a built-in command that extracts every image from the page you are viewing. You can save an individual image from its context menu, or install an image-downloader extension from the Chrome Web Store to find, filter and download many images at once. The exact images found depend on the page structure, its current state and the extension’s permissions.
Choose the right method

Save a single image with Chrome
- Open the page in Chrome.
- Right-click the image. Depending on the page and image type, choose Save image as… (or the equivalent image-saving command shown by Chrome).
- Choose a folder and select Save. If Chrome is set to ask for every download, the location dialog appears each time.
Some sites disable the context menu, display an image inside a canvas, or use a background image rather than a normal image element. In those cases the ordinary save command may be unavailable or may save a different resource than the one you can see.
Download a page-wide batch with a Chrome extension
1. Open a listing and check it before installing
Use the Download All Images listing or another listing you have evaluated. Google documents the normal installation route through the Chrome Web Store in its extension installation and management help. Before selecting Add to Chrome, inspect:
- the publisher name and listing update information;
- the permissions requested and why the extension needs them;
- reviews and recent comments;
- the sites on which you intend to allow access; and
- whether your employer or school permits extensions.
Chrome’s downloads API requires a downloads permission for extensions that use that API, but not every image extension necessarily requests the same permission. Review the specific listing rather than assuming.

2. Install and open it on the target page
- Select Add to Chrome, review the permission prompt, and confirm only if the access is appropriate.
- Return to the page containing the images and reload it if the extension asks you to.
- Select the extension from Chrome’s Extensions menu. Pinning it makes the button easier to find.
Image discovery is based on the page as it currently exists. Scroll through lazy-loaded sections, expand galleries and wait for content to finish loading before opening the extension. A page can contain images in nested frames, links, backgrounds, scripts or CSS; whether a particular extension detects each category is a publisher claim and can vary by site.
3. Inspect, filter and select images
The Download All Images listing describes a gallery and filters for file size, dimensions, type, URL and same-origin status. It also claims support for images found in nested frames, links, backgrounds, scripts and CSS, selected downloads, ZIP export and scanning linked pages. Treat these as the publisher’s listed capabilities, not a guarantee of universal coverage. Use the gallery to remove logos, icons, tracking pixels and duplicate variants before downloading.
The Image Downloader listing describes browsing images on the active page, filtering by size, dimensions or URL, removing duplicates, renaming files and downloading in the background. Its listing says page-content access is requested when the popup is activated. The listing details were available through search-result text, so verify the current permissions and features on the store page before relying on them.

4. Start the download and handle duplicate-file prompts
- Select the images you want in the extension’s gallery or list.
- Choose its download command. If it offers individual files and ZIP, use ZIP for a large set that you want to move together.
- If Chrome asks to allow multiple downloads, review the site and extension context before allowing it.
- When Chrome reports duplicate names, choose whether to keep both files, replace one, or change the naming option offered by the extension.
Downloading a file only gives you a copy; it does not give you permission to republish it. Check the image’s licence, the page owner’s terms and the intended use before sharing, editing or selling a downloaded image.
Find the files Chrome downloaded
Chrome shows recent downloads in the download tray. You can also open More (⋮) → Downloads, or use Chrome’s downloads page to locate an item and reveal it in the file manager. Google’s download help documents these controls.
Change the destination folder
- Open More (⋮) → Settings.
- Select Downloads.
- Use Change beside the location to choose a default folder, or enable Ask where to save each file before downloading.
The setting affects where Chrome saves files; it does not change which images an extension can discover.

Understand Automatic downloads
Chrome’s Site Settings include an Automatic downloads permission. It controls whether a site may download related files together. It is not an image-extraction switch and does not tell Chrome which images are present. If a batch stops, check the permission shown for the site, but do not grant broad access without understanding the request.
Limit an extension’s access after installation
Open More (⋮) → Extensions → Manage extensions, find the extension and select Details. Chrome lets you restrict site access to On click, specific sites, or all sites (the labels can vary slightly by Chrome release). Restricting access reduces the pages on which the extension can read content. You can return to the same screen to remove the extension or change permissions.

Managed work or school profiles may prevent installation or enforce a particular access policy. If the Add to Chrome button is unavailable or a policy message appears, contact the administrator instead of attempting to bypass the control. Why some images are missing
- Lazy loading: the page has not created the image until you scroll or interact with it. Scroll through the page, open collapsed sections and run the extension again.
- CSS backgrounds: a visual may be a background declaration rather than an
<img>. Use an extension that explicitly claims background or CSS discovery, and verify the resulting URLs. - Nested frames: content in an iframe can have a different origin or permissions. Detection may be incomplete.
- Canvas or protected viewers: the visible pixels may not exist as a directly downloadable image URL.
- Responsive variants: a page can expose several sizes or formats of the same picture. Filter by dimensions, URL or type and remove duplicates.
- Login, consent or bot checks: the extension may see only the challenge or sign-in page. Complete legitimate access in the browser first; do not try to defeat a CAPTCHA or access control.
- Linked-page scanning: an extension may offer to visit linked pages, but that can create many more requests and image candidates. Review the links and permissions before enabling it.
Troubleshoot a failed batch

Keep a batch reliable and manageable
- Use a dedicated folder for each page or date so repeated scans do not mix files.
- Record the source page URL alongside the files, especially when filenames are generated.
- Start with a small selection to confirm that the extension is obtaining the desired resolution and format.
- For very large galleries, download in groups and watch disk space, browser prompts and network load.
- Close unrelated tabs that may consume memory while an extension builds a large gallery.
- Do not enable linked-page crawling unless you understand how many pages it will visit and whether you are allowed to retrieve their content.
