There is no universal way to download every audio file from an arbitrary website. You can reliably collect files exposed as ordinary links by crawling a narrowly defined host or directory with HTTrack or GNU Wget. If audio appears only after JavaScript runs, a click, login, or playback, inspect the browser’s network requests. For supported media platforms, use yt-dlp’s documented audio options. Always confirm permission, respect robots guidance and site terms, control request rates, and verify that you have enough storage.
Choose the method that matches the website

Think of “all” as “all files in a defined, authorized scope that the site exposes.” Define the host, path, pages, file extensions and collection date before starting. Do not crawl unrelated domains or attempt to defeat robots exclusions, bot checks, authentication or other access controls.
Before you download
- Confirm that you own the files, have permission to copy them, or that the site explicitly offers them for download. Copyright, privacy and contract rules can apply even when a URL is publicly visible.
- Write down the intended scope: one directory, a set of pages, or a supported collection. A whole-domain crawl can retrieve unrelated documents and consume substantial bandwidth and disk space.
- Check free disk space against the likely archive size. Keep the destination outside a synchronized folder until you have checked the results.
- Plan a small test first. Review logs, sample several files and adjust scope or filters before a large run.
Method 1: crawl linked files with HTTrack
HTTrack is designed to mirror a website recursively, preserve relative structure for offline browsing, resume or update a mirror, and log refused, redirected or filtered URLs. Its command guide documents a same-host basic mirror and ordinary robots.txt compliance. The official resources are the HTTrack home page and the HTTrack command-line guide.
Run a narrow test mirror
Install HTTrack using the package supplied for your operating system, then start with the exact page or directory that contains the audio. A typical command is:

httrack "https://example.com/audio/" -O "./audio-mirror" "https://example.com/audio/*" -vThe URL and output directory are examples; replace them with an authorized target. The scope pattern keeps the test within the intended path. Use HTTrack’s interactive prompts or command guide for depth, filters and update behavior rather than copying flags from Wget—its options are different.
Locate audio in the mirror
After the run, search the output directory for extensions such as .mp3, .m4a, .wav, .ogg, .flac and .opus. Extension alone is not proof of an audio payload: inspect a sample with your operating system or a media tool. Read the crawl and error logs for URLs that were refused, redirected or filtered. HTTrack’s documented default throttle is about 100 KB/s; it is a version-specific default, not a universal rate recommendation.
Method 2: use GNU Wget with depth and type filters
GNU Wget can recursively parse HTML and CSS, recreate a local directory tree, and accept or reject file patterns. Its documentation covers recursive downloading and file-type filters. Wget obeys robots.txt by default.
Download audio beneath one directory

"https://example.com/audio/"--recursive follows links, --level=2 limits how many link levels Wget follows from the starting page, and --no-parent prevents moving above the starting directory. --accept narrows saved files to the listed suffixes; add or remove extensions to match the site. The one-second wait is an example of gentler pacing, not a guarantee that a server will accept the load. Remove --no-parent only when the authorized scope genuinely includes parent paths.

Keep the command and date with the archive. Wget can continue an interrupted transfer with options documented for your installed release; do not assume a partial file is complete. Check its log and HTTP response information, because a successful request may still have returned an HTML error page saved with an unexpected name.

Method 3: find dynamically loaded audio in Chrome
JavaScript-heavy pages may create an audio URL only after the page runs, a player is clicked, a tab is opened or a user signs in. HTTrack notes that intensive JavaScript sites can be incomplete. Chrome DevTools’ Network overview explains recording requests, and the Network features reference covers filters and request details.
- Open the authorized page in Chrome and press
Ctrl+Shift+I(Windows/Linux) orCmd+Option+I(macOS). - Select Network, enable recording, and reload the page. Keep DevTools open so requests are captured.
- Use the resource-type filter or the filter box with terms such as
media,audio,mp3orm4a. Then operate the page normally: open the relevant section or press Play. - Click a candidate request and inspect its URL, response headers, status, initiator and timing. A direct file commonly has an audio content type and a stable-looking URL; a manifest or many short requests indicate streaming or segmentation.
- Where the site permits it, use the request’s copy-URL action and retrieve that URL with an authorized client. Treat cookies, authorization headers and expiring query strings as sensitive; do not publish or share them.
This observes only requests made during that browser session. It is not a site-wide inventory, and a player may fetch only the segment currently needed.
Method 4: use yt-dlp for supported media platforms
yt-dlp documentation describes audio extraction and audio-only format selection for supported extractors. It is a platform-aware downloader, not a universal crawler. Extractor behavior, available formats and metadata can change as a site changes.

Why a downloader missed files
Only the starting page was saved
Check the crawler log, link depth, same-host and path limits, and accept/reject filters. The desired pages may not be linked from the start page, or links may point to a different host. HTTrack’s FAQ specifically discusses external and parent-directory links that are not captured by default. Expand scope only when you are authorized to do so.
The page is script-heavy
Use DevTools Network while loading and interacting with the page. A crawler that does not execute the site’s JavaScript will not see URLs created in the browser.
The “file” is a player, manifest or stream
Inspect request type and headers. A manifest can reference many segments, and a temporary URL can expire. There may be no single standalone file to retrieve. Use an authorized export or download feature when provided rather than trying to bypass delivery controls.
Access denied or robots exclusion
Treat a refusal as a boundary. Do not disguise the crawler, override robots rules, evade bot checks or reuse someone else’s credentials. Ask the owner for permission, an API, an export or a direct download.
The server or your disk is under strain
Stop the run, narrow the path, add delays and monitor storage. GNU Wget warns that recursive retrieval can overload remote servers, trigger bans and consume disk space. A large archive may justify an external drive, but first calculate capacity and verify that the collection is actually needed.

Validate the archive
- Count files by extension and compare the count with the pages or collection you intended to process.
- Open or inspect several files from the beginning, middle and end of the run. Check duration, codec and whether the file is actually an HTML error response.
- Record missing URLs, redirects, authentication failures and expired links from the logs.
- Repeat with a corrected, narrower scope instead of launching an unlimited crawl.
- Keep a manifest containing source URL, local filename, retrieval date and any permission or license note.

- Request load: depth limits, filters and delays reduce unnecessary requests; there is no reliable universal speed or success-rate comparison among these tools.
- Reliability: logs, resumable runs and a manifest matter more than a single “completed” message.
