In India, use YouTube’s mobile app and tap Download on eligible videos; some videos can be saved without Premium, while others require it. YouTube Premium also offers a playlist-download option in the app. These are in-app offline downloads, not video files saved to your phone’s gallery.
Choose the YouTube download option that fits your playlist
| Option | What it lets you download | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| India mobile offline feature | Eligible individual videos in the YouTube app | Some videos require Premium. Check the Download control on each video. |
| YouTube Premium | Videos and playlists in the YouTube app | Availability still depends on the individual video and your account. Downloads are tied to the signed-in account and are not exported as standalone files. |
| Desktop download | A video from its YouTube watch page, where the option is available | YouTube’s computer instructions do not establish a whole-playlist download workflow on desktop. |
YouTube’s India guidance says certain videos can be downloaded on mobile and some require Premium. For T-Series Music, YouTube says Premium has been required for downloads since October 29, 2020; that is a rule for that content, not a blanket rule for every video. If a video has no Download control or prompts you to join Premium, do not assume it can be saved through the no-cost route.
Download a playlist in the YouTube mobile app
- Sign in to the account you plan to use offline. Open the YouTube app and check that the intended Google account is active.
- Open the playlist. Select a video from it. If you have Premium and YouTube shows a playlist download option, you can use that option; otherwise, open videos individually.
- Tap Download where available. If YouTube offers a quality choice, select one appropriate for your storage and data limits. Higher quality generally uses more storage and data; using Wi-Fi or choosing a lower quality can help manage both.
- Check the saved items. Find downloads in the app’s You tab or Library under Downloads. Labels and navigation can vary by app version.
- Reconnect periodically. Keep the same account signed in. For the India selected-country mobile feature, YouTube says downloaded videos can be played offline for up to 48 hours before the app needs to reconnect and check availability.
Repeat the individual-video steps for playlist items that do not download as a group. YouTube does not guarantee that every item in every playlist is eligible.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhat happens when the playlist changes
A newly added video may download automatically if you watched a video in that playlist or downloaded the playlist within the preceding 30 days. This is conditional, not a guarantee that every playlist will keep itself fully updated.

Downloads can become unavailable if a video’s offline eligibility changes; YouTube may remove it during a sync. In the selected-country guidance, the usual India reconnection interval is 48 hours. YouTube also describes intervals of up to 29 days for non-music videos in some countries or regions, but that is not a universal India promise.
Premium device and membership limits
- YouTube Premium offline features can be used on up to 10 devices at a time.
- YouTube allows up to four device swaps in a year under its current device-limit guidance.
- If Premium ends, YouTube says downloaded videos are no longer accessible.
These limits concern Premium offline features. Check the signed-in account and each video’s Download control to determine what is available to you.
Can you download the playlist on a computer?
YouTube’s Premium computer instructions describe opening a video watch page while signed in and clicking Download. They list Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Opera as supported browsers. They do not document downloading an entire playlist on desktop, so use the mobile-app workflow for playlist downloads rather than assuming the computer option covers a whole playlist.

Offline viewing is not an MP4 export
YouTube’s download controls keep saved videos within YouTube for playback in the app; they do not create a gallery video or an MP4 file for use in another player. YouTube’s creator-download help also says users cannot use that file-download feature to download other people’s videos. For offline viewing, use YouTube’s own controls and respect the availability shown for each video.
Troubleshooting YouTube playlist downloads
There is no Download button
The video may not be eligible for offline playback, or the download route may require Premium. Check that you are signed in and review any membership prompt. Eligibility can differ from one playlist item to another.
The download stops or does not appear
Confirm that the app is signed in to the intended account and check Downloads in the app. If storage or mobile data is a concern, choose a lower download quality where offered or use Wi-Fi. Reconnect so YouTube can verify that the video remains available.
