Use Google Search Console (GSC) to see which queries and pages already generate impressions and clicks for your site, then use an AI agent to organize and interpret that evidence. The agent can help find patterns; it cannot turn GSC data into a complete list of keywords or prove that a phrase has broad market demand. A reliable workflow keeps the underlying data, filters and limits visible so you can verify each recommendation.
What GSC and an AI agent each contribute
GSC provides first-party observations about your property’s performance in Google Search. Its Performance report and Search Analytics API can expose query, page, device and date information, subject to the report and API’s limits. Google describes the API as providing access to the data available in the Performance report: Search Analytics API guide.
An AI agent can retrieve or organize that data, compare periods, group related queries, and explain possible opportunities. Those explanations are interpretations, not additional search data. Keep the distinction clear: an impression or click shows how your site appeared or performed in the measured Google Search data; it does not establish total keyword demand, conversion value, or the causal effect of a content change.
A practical workflow
1. Choose the decision and scope
Decide what you need to learn before asking an agent to analyze anything. For example, you might look for queries with impressions but relatively few clicks, identify which pages appear for a set of related queries, or compare performance across two periods. These are useful ways to examine the available data, not strategies Google guarantees will improve rankings.
#1 Best Overall
Specify the GSC property, search type, date range, and the pages or query themes in scope. A comparison is only useful when its dates and dimensions are clear and comparable.
2. Retrieve the data and confirm it exists
You can use the Performance report in GSC or retrieve data through the Search Analytics API. The API uses a required date range and supports dimensions and filters such as query and page; its parameters are documented in the Search Analytics query reference.
Google’s API guide recommends first checking for data with dates and date as the only dimension before adding more complex grouping or filters. For large results, the guide describes fetching rows in batches. This helps distinguish an empty result for the requested scope from an issue introduced by a more restrictive query.

3. Tell the agent what to disclose
Ask the agent to report the property, dates, search type, dimensions, filters and aggregation it used. Require a traceable output: ideally retain the source rows, or provide enough detail to rerun the query. Have it label observed metrics separately from interpretations and recommendations, and call out assumptions explicitly.
These safeguards matter because API results depend on the request and are bounded. Google says the API returns top rows rather than guaranteeing every row; results are ordered by clicks, with ties ordered arbitrarily. Review the query reference when interpreting a result or designing a repeatable extraction.
4. Check the query theme against the page and intent
Before changing a page, inspect the query theme alongside the page associated with it. Ask whether the page actually answers the likely need behind the query, whether another page is a better fit, and whether the proposed edit would help a reader. Treat the agent’s grouping as a hypothesis to check against the actual queries and pages, not as proof that Google recognizes a particular topic cluster.

5. Recheck after a change
After publishing an edit, compare a suitable period with the earlier baseline using the same property, search type and dimensions where possible. Allow for reporting latency and incomplete results. Avoid repeated broad or heavily grouped requests without a reason: Google’s API usage limits, last updated August 28, 2025, describe load quotas and explain that request load can rise with date range and with grouping or filtering by page and query, particularly when both are used. Check the live page before relying on exact quota values.
How to interpret the numbers without overclaiming
Missing queries do not mean zero demand
Google withholds some low-frequency queries from query tables to protect privacy. Its October 2022 explanation says anonymized queries remain included in chart totals unless the report is filtered by query, which can change the aggregation. Consequently, a query missing from a table is not evidence that nobody searched for it. See Google’s explanation of anonymized queries.
API results are not a complete keyword universe
The API’s top-row behavior means a returned dataset may omit rows; sorting by clicks and arbitrary ordering of ties also affect what appears in a bounded result. Google’s October 2022 post reported an upper export limit of 50,000 rows per day per site per search type for the API and Looker Studio connector at that time, using pagination. That is a dated published limit, not a guarantee that every property or current implementation can retrieve that volume. Check the current API documentation before building around a row limit.

Separate observation from recommendation
GSC can show that a query was associated with impressions or clicks for your property in a given period. It cannot, by itself, tell you the phrase’s total market demand, the business value of a visit, or whether an edit caused a later performance change. An agent can suggest an interpretation, but you must evaluate it against the page, its audience and other relevant evidence.

Google’s Search Console Help page says the generative AI performance report shows impressions from generative AI features in Search, pages receiving those impressions, and the originating country and device. Google states that the worldwide rollout reached all websites on August 31, 2026. The report uses Web search type data and has the usual Performance report limitations; a property may not see it if it has insufficient impressions or is excluded from generative AI features. Details are in Google’s generative AI performance report help page.

This report can add a view of discovery through those features, but it does not replace query and page analysis or remove the limitations of Search Console data. Google’s guidance on generative AI features advises using the report to understand discovery and cautions that third-party vendors do not have internal access to Google’s ranking or AI systems.

How to assess an agent’s analysis
Judge an output by whether a person can verify and use it, not by how confidently it is written. A useful report makes its provenance, completeness and decision relevance inspectable.
- Provenance: Does it show the property, dates, search type, dimensions and filters?
- Completeness: Does it disclose privacy filtering and API row limits instead of presenting the output as every possible query?
- Reproducibility: Could you rerun the request or inspect the source rows behind a conclusion?
- Decision relevance: Does each recommendation connect specific query evidence to a page and a reader need?
- Evidence boundaries: Are metrics distinguished from assumptions, forecasts and proposed actions?
Be cautious of tools that promise ranking success or claim access to Google’s internal ranking or AI systems. Google’s guidance says third-party tools do not have that internal access; evaluate their advice against Google’s published guidance rather than treating an agent’s confidence as proof.
