To show Firefox’s Menu bar briefly, press Alt (or AltGr if Alt does not work). To keep it visible, right-click an empty area of the toolbar or tab strip and select Menu Bar. You can also enable it through Firefox’s Customize Toolbar controls.
Show the Menu bar temporarily or keep it on
Reveal it temporarily
Press Alt to display the Menu bar for the moment. If that key does not work on your keyboard, try AltGr. Mozilla says the File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Profiles, Tools and Help Menu bar is hidden by default in Firefox. Mozilla Support: Restore the Menu bar in Firefox.
Keep it visible
- Right-click an empty area of the toolbar or tab strip.
- Select Menu Bar.
Alternatively, open the Firefox menu button, choose More Tools, then Customize Toolbar. Open the Toolbars dropdown at the bottom, select Menu Bar, and choose Done. Mozilla Support: Restore the Menu bar in Firefox.

Restore the Bookmarks toolbar or another toolbar
- Open the Firefox menu button and select More Tools → Customize Toolbar.
- At the bottom, open the Toolbars dropdown.
- Select the toolbar you want, then choose Done.
For the Bookmarks toolbar, the available display choices are Always Show, Never Show, and Only Show on New Tab. These desktop steps apply to Windows, macOS and Linux; some Linux menu options vary by desktop environment. Mozilla Support: Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars.

If the Menu bar still seems to be missing
Check full-screen mode
Full-screen mode can make browser controls seem absent. Use Firefox’s full-screen control in the menu to leave it. Mozilla also lists Command+Shift+F and F11 as ways to exit full-screen; some computers require Fn+F11. Mozilla Support: Restore the Menu bar in Firefox.
On a Mac, select Firefox
macOS shows the menu bar for the selected application. Click the Firefox window if another app is selected. Mozilla Support: Restore the Menu bar in Firefox.

Use the screen-reader shortcut
Press Alt+V, then T, then M to show the Menu bar with a screen reader. Mozilla Support: Restore the Menu bar in Firefox.

Reset toolbar settings only if simpler fixes fail
In Customize Toolbar, Restore Defaults resets the default buttons and toolbars and restores the default theme. It also changes vertical tabs back to horizontal tabs if vertical tabs are enabled. If toolbar information is corrupted, Mozilla recommends Firefox Refresh. Treat these as later recovery steps because they change settings beyond simply showing the Menu bar.
