To show each changing Tamil song name on a 24/7 YouTube stream, put the current track title into the video image with an overlay. In OBS, a text source can read a text file that your music player or automation updates. Keep the title in Unicode, use a font with Tamil support on the machine rendering the overlay, and check the result at your stream’s final resolution.

YouTube’s broadcast title describes the live broadcast; it is not a per-song on-screen label. The song name must be part of the audiovisual feed sent to YouTube.

Set up a Tamil now-playing overlay in OBS

  1. Find the now-playing title. Identify the metadata field in your music player or automation system that contains the current track name. The exact integration depends on that software; YouTube’s API documentation does not establish how a particular player exposes its track metadata.
  2. Have your playback system update a text file. Configure the player or automation to write the current title to a file whenever the track changes. OBS supports text sources that read from a file, but the process that updates the file must be configured separately.
  3. Add the text source in OBS. In your scene, add a Text source and enable its option to read text from a file. Select the file your playback system updates, then place and style the source in the scene. OBS describes these as text renders for a stream or recording layout in its Text Sources documentation.
  4. Keep the track name as Unicode Tamil. Do not transliterate it just to make it display. Unicode says Tamil support is implemented in major desktop and mobile operating systems and browsers, though that does not guarantee the particular font or renderer on your streaming host is configured correctly. See the Unicode Tamil FAQ.
  5. Choose a Tamil-capable font and check where it renders. Noto Sans Tamil is one font to test; Unicode lists Noto and other Indic font resources. The font must be available to the machine that renders the overlay, not merely the computer used to edit settings. See Noto’s usage guidance and the Unicode Indic scripts FAQ.
  6. Preview realistic titles at output size. Check Tamil vowel signs, mixed Tamil and Latin text, punctuation, and long names in the actual scene and final resolution. Tamil vowel signs U+0BC6, U+0BC7, and U+0BC8 can appear visually to the left of the consonant they apply to; retain the correct Unicode sequence and let the text renderer shape it. Do not manually rearrange characters to imitate their visual placement. Unicode documents Tamil in U+0B80–U+0BFF and the Tamil Supplement in U+11FC0–U+11FFF in Chapter 12 of the Unicode 18.0.0 Core Specification.
  7. Verify a track change and a restart. During a private preview or live test, confirm that the title changes when the track changes, that the old title is not left behind, and that the text fits within the visible safe area after a scene or stream restart.

Why changing YouTube titles or live chat will not show each song name

YouTube’s Live Streaming API treats a broadcast and the stream carrying its video and audio as distinct resources. A broadcast has information such as its title, which describes the broadcast or video; an on-screen now-playing label must be included in the visual content sent to YouTube. The API’s live-chat methods concern chat messages, not a music player’s current track metadata. See Google’s Live Streaming API overview, LiveBroadcasts reference, and live chat documentation.

Fix boxes, misplaced letters, or stale track titles

  • Tamil characters appear as boxes: Check that the text file contains Unicode Tamil and that a Tamil-capable font is installed and selected in the environment rendering the overlay. A font on a separate configuration computer does not help if the stream host lacks it.
  • Vowel signs look out of order: Keep the original Unicode sequence and use a renderer that shapes Tamil. Some vowel signs are visually placed to the left of a consonant; changing character order by hand can corrupt the text sequence.
  • The title does not change: Check first whether the player or automation actually updates the file on a track change, then confirm the OBS text source points to that same file and reads from it.
  • The title is cut off or hard to read: Test long titles and mixed-script text at the final output resolution, then adjust the source’s position, size, or styling so it stays legible within the visible area.
  • The overlay fails after a restart: Verify that the playback automation continues updating the same file and that OBS still references it after the scene or stream restarts.

Choose between an OBS text source and another overlay

An OBS file-reading text source is a documented way to put text in the scene. A browser-based or third-party overlay may offer different layout controls, but its Tamil font shaping, update behavior, and restart recovery depend on that specific service and setup; they are not established here. Compare approaches by whether your music system can update the title, whether Tamil renders correctly on the streaming machine, whether updates survive track changes and restarts, and whether the layout stays inside the safe area. OBS Project’s description is direct: “Text sources allow you to add simple text renders to your stream or recording layout.”

Check music rights before keeping the stream live

Showing a song title does not grant permission to stream the recording. YouTube warns that third-party content identified in a live stream can lead to the stream being replaced with a placeholder image or stopped. Check the rights for the recordings you use and review notices in YouTube Studio. The platform’s guidance describes how YouTube handles detected material; it does not determine the legal status of a particular recording or territory. See YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams and its live streams help page.

Or let it run in the cloud
