For a comma-separated list of linked WordPress categories beside a post, use get_the_category_list( ', ' ) in the template that renders the post. Use the_category( ', ' ) if you want WordPress to print the list directly, or loop through get_the_category() when you need custom markup or conditions for each category.
Display linked categories with a comma separator
In a post template or post-card template that runs inside the WordPress Loop, add:

</div>get_the_category_list() returns HTML containing linked category names. Its first argument sets the separator, so ', ' places a comma and space between categories. The function also accepts a parent-display mode and an optional post ID. With no separator, it uses its default unordered-list output.
Choose the function that fits your template

Build custom markup for each category
Use get_the_category() when each category needs its own element or logic. For example, this outputs a linked list and escapes the URL and category name:

?>get_the_category() returns an array of term objects for the post. When calling it outside the Loop, pass the post ID. These built-in category functions work with WordPress’s default category taxonomy; they are not a substitute for querying a custom taxonomy.

Use a custom taxonomy’s terms when needed
If the labels belong to a custom taxonomy rather than WordPress’s built-in categories, retrieve them with get_the_terms() and build the output for that taxonomy. Do not expect get_the_category() or the category-list functions to return custom-taxonomy terms.
Put the code in the template that controls the display
If you want labels beside each post title or excerpt in an archive card, add the code to the template part that renders each post in the Loop. If your goal is instead to change the layout of a category archive, edit the relevant archive template: WordPress’s taxonomy template hierarchy includes category.php and more specific category templates.
