Show the current selling price plainly, label any MRP separately, and put material offer conditions where viewers can see or hear them before they buy. Keep the live presentation consistent with the actual checkout price and product listing. A graphic or spoken pitch is useful for clarity, but it should not be assumed to replace any required ecommerce listing disclosures.
What to show during the live promotion
Use distinct labels so viewers can tell the maximum retail price from the price they can pay now. For example, identify the figures as “MRP” and “Offer price”; avoid presenting two unexplained amounts or implying a saving that the comparison does not support. This is a clear-display recommendation, not a legally prescribed overlay format.
- Show the actual current selling price, not a rounded or outdated amount that differs from checkout.
- State material conditions such as eligibility, offer duration, or purchase requirements clearly before viewers act.
- Make the product listing and the host’s spoken and on-screen claims consistent.
Understand the India-specific MRP and listing context
MRP on covered pre-packaged commodities
India’s Department of Consumer Affairs lists “Retail sale price in the form of Maximum Retail Price (MRP) Rs….. Inclusive of all taxes” among declarations for pre-packaged commodities. See the Department’s Legal Metrology information. Whether a particular electronics product and sale fall within the applicable requirements depends on the product and transaction.
A live overlay is not automatically the ecommerce disclosure
A Lok Sabha answer dated 3 December 2025 describes Rule 6(10) as requiring ecommerce entities to display specified declarations, including MRP, on their digital or electronic network. That supports treating the applicable product listing as a separate compliance surface: do not assume that a video overlay or the host saying the MRP fulfils a listing obligation. Check the Lok Sabha answer and the current rule text for the relevant sale.

Keep the offer accurate and understandable
The Central Consumer Protection Authority’s 2022 misleading-advertisement guidelines address representations and omissions likely to mislead consumers. They say a disclaimer must not hide material information or try to correct a misleading advertising claim. A small, remote disclaimer is therefore not a substitute for making a headline claim or spoken offer accurate in the first place.
If you compare MRP with a lower offer price, make sure the stated MRP and the claimed saving have a sound basis. Put conditions that change who can buy, what they pay, or when the offer applies close enough to the claim that viewers can understand them before purchase.

Set up YouTube Shopping without confusing the price responsibility
- Confirm the selling route. Determine whether viewers will buy through a shop connected to YouTube or through an external retailer or checkout. Requirements can depend on the country, seller arrangement, product, and checkout route.
- Check the connected shop and product details. YouTube Help says eligible merchants can connect a shop and tag products in live streams. Product information is displayed according to the countries of sale set in Google Merchant Center. Review the YouTube Shopping guidance for eligibility and setup.
- Verify the product listing. For an Indian ecommerce sale involving a covered pre-packaged commodity, check that the relevant listing surface contains required declarations. Do not rely on the live video alone without legal confirmation.
- Match the live presentation to checkout. Before going live, check the displayed price and conditions against the merchant’s actual purchase terms. Update the overlay, product information, and host notes if the offer changes.
- Review applicable law for the actual transaction. Confirm the selling country, packaged status, seller of record, and checkout route, and verify the current requirements. The title of a promotion cannot settle those legal details.
Who is responsible for the price and purchase terms?
YouTube Help states: “The merchant determines and is responsible for the final price and conditions of purchase.” It also says merchants are responsible for disclosing legally required consumer information and complying with applicable laws. YouTube’s live product tagging and connected-shop features do not remove that merchant responsibility.

Common display problems and fixes
- Viewers cannot tell which amount is MRP. Label MRP and the current offer price explicitly rather than relying on color, strike-through styling, or spoken context alone.
- The live price differs from checkout. Recheck the merchant’s current purchase terms and update the live graphic and host script before continuing the offer.
- A condition is only mentioned in tiny text or after the claim. State material eligibility, duration, and purchase conditions clearly alongside the offer; do not expect a disclaimer to cure a misleading claim.
- The product listing is being treated as identical to the video. Check the applicable ecommerce listing separately, particularly for covered Indian pre-packaged commodities.
- The legal requirement is unclear. Verify the current rule text and the specific product, seller, geography, and checkout path; seek qualified legal advice where needed.
