To dismiss a native JavaScript dialog in Puppeteer, listen for the page’s dialog event and call await dialog.dismiss(). Register the listener before the action that may trigger the dialog:
page.on('dialog', async dialog => {

});This handles browser dialogs such as alert, confirm, prompt, and beforeunload. It does not target modal elements rendered as part of a page’s HTML. See Puppeteer’s Dialog API reference.
Dismiss every JavaScript dialog
Attach a listener to the Puppeteer Page before navigating or interacting with the page. When a dialog appears, dismiss it from the handler:

await page.goto('https://example.com');dismiss() returns a promise that resolves once the dialog has been dismissed, so awaiting it makes the handler’s behavior explicit. Puppeteer documents the event and response methods in its Dialog class reference and lists common dialog types in the PageEvent reference.

Choose whether to dismiss, accept, or inspect

Handle dialogs conditionally
If only certain dialogs should be dismissed, inspect their type or message and select the response. For example, this handler accepts a prompt with a supplied value and dismisses other dialogs:

});Use dialog.type() to branch on the dialog category, or dialog.message() when the decision depends on its displayed text. dialog.handled indicates whether the dialog has been handled, which can help when inspecting its state.

Use a complete runnable example
Install Puppeteer in a Node.js project with npm install puppeteer, then save this as dismiss-dialog.js and run node dismiss-dialog.js. The example registers the listener before navigation so a dialog encountered during page loading can be handled:

Troubleshoot dialogs that appear to hang
- The listener is attached too late: add it before the navigation, click, or other operation that can trigger the dialog. This ordering follows Puppeteer’s event-listener pattern.
- The page is waiting for a response: a native dialog blocks page interaction until it is accepted or dismissed. Ensure the handler calls one of those methods and awaits the returned promise.
- The popup is still visible: it may be a DOM-based modal or overlay rather than a native JavaScript dialog. The
dialogevent covers browser dialogs; inspect and interact with the page’s elements for an HTML-rendered modal. - A prompt is not receiving text: pass text to
dialog.accept('text'). The optional argument does not affect alerts, confirms, or other non-prompt dialogs. - Behavior differs under WebDriver BiDi: Puppeteer’s BiDi guide lists JavaScript dialog interception and the
page.on('dialog')andDialog.*APIs as supported. The guide is in the next documentation branch and does not give a version-by-version support matrix; check the Puppeteer and browser combination installed in your environment.
