Open Settings > Apps > Samsung Internet and tap Disable if the option is available. Some Galaxy phones do not offer it for this preinstalled app. If you cannot disable it, set another installed browser as the default at Settings > Apps > Choose default apps > Browser app; this redirects ordinary web links but leaves Samsung Internet installed.
Disable Samsung Internet if your phone offers the option
- Open Settings, tap Apps, then select Samsung Internet. Menu labels can vary by Galaxy model and software version. Samsung’s instructions for disabling or removing embedded apps note that available controls vary.
- On the app info screen, tap Disable and confirm if prompted. Samsung says disabled preloaded apps are removed from the Apps screen. Some preinstalled apps cannot be disabled or uninstalled. Samsung’s Galaxy app-management guidance describes this conditional availability.
If Disable is missing, change the default browser
Install or choose another browser, then open Settings > Apps > Choose default apps > Browser app and select it. The list contains browsers installed on your phone. Samsung documents this route for choosing a default browser in its Samsung Browser guide.
This changes which browser handles ordinary web links; it does not disable, uninstall, or remove Samsung Internet. Whether the Disable control appears depends on the phone model and software version, so check the app info screen on your device.

Choose the action that matches your goal
| Action | What changes | What does not change |
|---|---|---|
| Disable Samsung Internet | When the control is available, the preloaded app is disabled and removed from the Apps screen. | It is not the same as uninstalling the app. |
| Change the default browser | Ordinary web links open in the browser you select. | Samsung Internet remains installed and is not disabled. |
| Remove a home-screen shortcut | The icon is removed from the home screen if your launcher offers a remove option. | The app remains installed and enabled. |
Remove only the home-screen icon
If you only want the icon out of sight, press and hold the Samsung Internet shortcut and use the launcher’s remove option if shown. This removes the shortcut, not the app. Launcher controls differ, so the option may not appear on every phone.
