To detain Michael in Halloween: The Game, a player-controlled police officer or Dr. Loomis needs a full detention meter. When Michael is down, get within range, use the on-screen detention interaction, and complete its skill checks before he recovers. Knocking him down or seeing police arrive does not, by itself, complete the detention.
Who can detain Michael?
The current game-specific guide identifies a player-controlled police officer or Dr. Loomis as the role that completes the detention. If you are not playing one of those roles, you need to return to the match as an eligible character before you can perform the interaction.
Returning as Dr. Loomis
GamesRadar describes a route in which a dead Civilian can use a CB-radio opportunity to return as Dr. Loomis. The guide does not establish that this opportunity is guaranteed in every match.

GamesRadar also reports that dead or escaped players may earn a Police Reinforcements card through after-elimination minigames, when police presence is available. Treat the card as a chance to return, not a guaranteed outcome.

How to detain Michael
- Get an eligible role. Play as a police officer or Dr. Loomis; other roles do not perform the described detention interaction.
- Build the detention meter. Stay close enough to Michael while controlling the eligible character and wait until the meter is full. The guide does not give a verified duration or numerical threshold.
- Coordinate a knockdown. Have Michael knocked down while the eligible player is close and ready to interact. A knockdown creates the opportunity; it is not the detention itself.
- Use the detention interaction. While Michael is down, approach him, follow the displayed prompt, and complete the skill checks. The guide says other players can join to help complete the interaction.
Use the prompt shown in your game rather than relying on a specific keyboard or controller button: a universal control mapping was not verified. A general multiplayer overview describes the outcome as Michael being detained and sent back to Smith’s Grove, but does not document exact button-by-button steps. The detailed sequence above comes from a game-specific guide, not a quoted official procedure.
Why the detention interaction may not appear or finish
- Check your role: confirm you are controlling police or Dr. Loomis.
- Check the meter: wait until the detention meter is full.
- Check Michael’s state: he must still be down when you approach.
- Check your position: move close enough for the interaction prompt to appear.
- Check the timing: if Michael gets up before the skill checks are complete, the opportunity has closed; set up another knockdown and reposition.
A police-arrival notification alone does not confirm that the role, meter, downed state, and range requirements are satisfied. A guide dated September 22, 2026, reports that patch 1.0.3 added temporary stagger immunity and stronger combat and recovery effects after Michael rises. Because this is a balance-sensitive detail reported by a guide, check current official patch notes if you are troubleshooting a later build.

What “detain” means in the match
Players may also encounter the word “arrest” when searching for this mechanic. The general multiplayer overview describes detention as an outcome of coordinated resistance, equipment, and manpower: Michael is sent back to Smith’s Grove. That broad description supports the result, but it does not specify the precise timing or the interaction steps; follow the in-game prompts for those.
