To delete Google searches saved to your Google Account, open My Activity, go to Search history, and use its delete controls. Chrome browsing history and cookies must be cleared separately in Chrome; Maps visits and routes are managed in Timeline. These are separate records, so there is no single clear-all control for all three.
Choose the history you want to delete
| Record | Where it is managed | What deletion covers |
|---|---|---|
| Google Account Search activity | My Activity or the account’s Search history controls | Search activity saved to the selected Google Account |
| Chrome browsing data | Chrome’s Delete browsing data controls | Selected local or synced browser data, such as visited URLs, cookies, and site data |
| Google Maps location visits and routes | Google Maps Timeline | Timeline records; Google says Timeline data is saved to a device, with an optional encrypted server backup |
Deleting one record does not automatically delete the others. Choose the section that matches what you want removed; to clear more than one kind, complete each section separately.
Delete Search history saved to your Google Account
On a computer, sign in to the Google Account whose searches you want to remove, then open My Activity and select Search history. Google’s computer instructions describe options to delete all time, a custom date range, activity for a day, or an individual item. Labels and menus can differ as Google updates Search controls.

- Attention-grabbing design meets the latest evolution of the Google Pixel Camera on the new Google Pixel 11 Pro; Gemini Intelligence helps manage details so you can live in the moment[1]; and the phone is available in two sizes
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan: Works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers[2]
- Stay informed without looking at your screen: When your phone is face down, Pixel HiLight gently alerts you with subtle glowing lights when your favorite contacts are calling or you’re talking with Gemini; exclusive to Google Pixel 11 Pro phones
- Magic Capture catches the moment as you live it: With just one tap, Pixel 11 Pro captures video and photos, and automatically edits, crops, and unblurs a curated collection, ready to share – and you get the memory of how it felt to be in the moment
- Two new cameras for more brilliant photos: A larger telephoto sensor captures 30% more light for clear, beautiful photos and videos, even in the dark[3]; Pixel’s longest zoom ever helps you capture details from impressive distances[4]
Set Search activity to delete automatically
In the account’s Search history or activity controls, look for the auto-delete option. Google Search Help lists retention choices of 3, 18, or 36 months; the help page does not state a publication year for those options. Manual deletion remains available when auto-delete is enabled.
Clear Chrome history, cookies, and site data separately
In Chrome on a computer, open the browser menu and choose Delete browsing data. Select a time range, check Cookies and other site data and any other categories you intend to remove, then confirm. Google’s Chrome instructions explain that clearing browsing history removes visited URLs from the History page and can affect shortcuts and address-bar predictions. Cookies and site data are separate categories: clearing history alone does not necessarily clear them.

- Google Pixel 10a is a durable, everyday phone with more[1]; snap brilliant photography on a simple, powerful camera, get 30+ hours out of a full charge[2], and do more with helpful AI like Gemini[3]
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan; it works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers
- Pixel 10a is sleek and durable, with a super smooth finish, scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 7i display, and IP68 water and dust protection[4]
- The Actua display with 3,000-nit peak brightness shows up clear as day, even in direct sunlight[5]

If Chrome sync is on, deleting synced browsing data can also remove it from other devices and the Google Account. This still does not replace deleting Search activity saved separately to My Activity.

Delete Google Maps location visits and routes
Open Google Maps Timeline to review and delete saved visits and routes. Google’s current guidance says Timeline saves location data to the device and offers an optional encrypted server backup. Google’s privacy guidance describes Timeline as off by default and lists auto-delete choices of 3, 18, or 36 months. See Google’s My Activity guidance and its activity deletion instructions for available controls.
Timeline controls are distinct from Search history and Chrome browsing data. Deleting a Maps visit or route does not clear those other records.
Stop future activity from being saved
Use the activity control for the record you want to stop saving. Depending on your account’s settings rollout, Search activity may appear under Search Services History or Web & App Activity. Google says that if Search Services History is not available in your account, Web & App Activity continues to control Search history and personalization. See Google’s Search Services History guidance for the updated controls.

Turning off or pausing an activity setting does not by itself remove data already saved. Delete existing records separately, or choose a combined turn-off-and-delete option if the control offers one. Google explains that saved data is not deleted just by turning activity settings off in its account deletion guidance.
Why a search or visit may still appear
- You cleared only one record type. Check My Activity, Chrome’s browsing data controls, and Maps Timeline as appropriate.
- The activity was saved to a different Google Account. Check which account is selected in the relevant Google service.
- The search was made while signed out or retained in the browser. Google notes that signed-out searches may be saved on the device; check local browser history and data.
- Deletion is still being processed. Google says deletion begins a removal process, and some data may be retained for limited legal or business purposes. It does not promise instant erasure of every copy everywhere.
Google’s Search settings are being updated gradually across Search and other services, and it has not provided one universal release date or a country-by-country rollout schedule in the cited guidance. If your screen does not match these labels, use the current controls shown in your account; Google says Web & App Activity remains the Search history control when Search Services History is not yet available. Device-specific app paths may also vary.
