The POLO by Rinnai PQ10CWF is a cooling-only portable air conditioner rated at 2.7 kW, with Rinnai listing it for rooms of 12–20 m². Its published specifications and features make it a plausible option for room-by-room cooling, but they are not independent performance results. The key practical questions are whether your room suits its stated capacity, whether you can vent it through a window, and whether its indoor noise and floor-space demands work for you.
What the PQ10CWF is—and what the specifications tell you
Rinnai Australia describes the PQ10CWF as a portable air conditioner for small to medium spaces, including bedrooms, home offices and personal spaces. It cools only: it is not a heater or a whole-home system. Rinnai’s product page lists the following specifications; they are manufacturer-published figures, not independent measurements.

These figures are useful for checking fit and comparing like-for-like specifications, but they do not establish how quickly or evenly the unit will cool a particular room, how much electricity it will use in your conditions, or how loud it will seem in your home. Rinnai says performance depends on room conditions and insulation. The listed sound-pressure figures should not be read as a promise that the unit will feel quiet, especially because the appliance operates inside the room.
Rinnai notes that specifications and product information may differ for superseded products. If your appliance label differs from PQ10CWF, confirm the correct details with Rinnai’s current product page or Rinnai directly.

Is its capacity suitable for your room?
Rinnai’s stated application range is 12–20 m². Measure the room’s floor area and treat that range as the manufacturer’s guidance, not a guarantee: heat gain, insulation and other room conditions affect performance. A sun-exposed room or one with poor insulation may be more demanding than a shaded, well-insulated room of the same area.
- Within 12–20 m²: The room falls within Rinnai’s stated range, though actual cooling depends on conditions.
- Below 12 m²: The listed range does not establish how the unit will perform in a smaller room.
- Above 20 m²: The room is beyond the stated application area; do not assume the PQ10CWF will adequately cool it.
For a confident purchase decision, compare the actual room and its heat load with the manufacturer’s guidance, and ask the retailer or Rinnai if the space is borderline.

What installation and everyday use involve
Plan for window exhaust and floor space
Like other portable air conditioners, the PQ10CWF needs to send hot air outside. Rinnai says it “requires venting through a window to exhaust hot air” and lists a ventilation kit as included. Before buying, check that the window and the supplied kit can accommodate the exhaust arrangement, and that the hose can reach without blocking a walkway. The unit also occupies floor space, so consider its listed dimensions and where it will sit.
Portable units do not require permanent installation and can be moved for room-by-room use, but the PQ10CWF weighs 31.1 kg. “Portable” therefore does not mean effortless to carry, particularly between floors. Follow the current manufacturer installation instructions for the exact setup; Rinnai links an operation and installation manual on its product page.

Drainage and filter care
Rinnai lists a built-in water alarm and says routine water emptying is not required, while qualifying that high-humidity climates may require drainage. That means the no-emptying claim is not universal: pay attention to the alarm and consult the current manual for the correct drainage procedure in your conditions. The product page also lists a washable filter; use the manual for cleaning intervals and instructions.
Controls, Wi-Fi and privacy
The listed controls and convenience features include a remote controller, adjustable temperature, timer, sleep mode and Wi-Fi app control through NetHome Plus. Rinnai says the app can enable control away from home and voice-control compatibility. Treat those as manufacturer-listed capabilities rather than a guarantee of compatibility with every current phone, platform or smart-home setup.

Rinnai identifies NetHome Plus as a third-party application and says its own privacy policy does not govern the third party’s practices. App use is optional, so check the app’s current terms and privacy policy before connecting the appliance if data handling matters to you.

How the PQ10CWF fits among cooling options
The main trade-off is convenience versus room impact. A portable unit avoids permanent installation and can be used room by room, but it needs a window exhaust, takes up indoor space and can produce more indoor noise than a split system, according to Rinnai’s general guidance for portable air conditioners. These are category-level considerations, not model-specific test findings.

When comparing alternatives, match the conditions rather than choosing on a single headline figure. Check room capacity against your actual space; confirm window and installation requirements; compare noise figures only when their measurement basis and location are comparable; and review drainage, maintenance, dimensions, local service support and warranty terms. Price and availability change, so verify them with Australian retailers before deciding.
Should you buy the Polo PQ10CWF?
The PQ10CWF is worth considering if you want cooling for a room within Rinnai’s stated 12–20 m² range, can exhaust hot air through a suitable window, and accept a sizeable appliance operating indoors. Its Wi-Fi and remote controls, timer, sleep mode, washable filter and water alarm are useful listed features, but no independent test evidence establishes real-world cooling speed, running cost or comparative value.
Rinnai lists Harvey Norman, Domayne and Joyce Mayne as Australian stockists and says it does not sell directly to the public.
