Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11If an Android screenshot is black, stale, cropped, or missing part of the screen, first compare capture methods on the same stable app state. Then check the emulator’s graphics configuration or, if your app captures a SurfaceView, verify that its surface has produced a frame and inspect the capture result. Emulator graphics problems and app-level surface capture problems have different causes, so one workaround will not fix every screenshot defect.
What to record before changing anything
Keep the original image and note exactly what is wrong: black content, an old frame, a missing region, a crop or scale mismatch, or a missing overlay or window. Reproduce the same state and record the capture time and route. These details help distinguish a bad capture path from an app or renderer problem.
- Android version and API level; emulator version, AVD system image, and display dimensions.
- Host operating system, GPU and driver, and the emulator graphics mode.
- Renderer type, such as ordinary Views,
SurfaceView,GLSurfaceView, or a custom surface consumer. - Capture method: Android Studio emulator screenshot, command line,
PixelCopy, or app-level view drawing. - Exact reproduction steps and relevant logs.
Version details matter: Android Emulator release notes document version-specific graphics and screenshot fixes.
Compare emulator capture routes first
Capture the same stable app state with Android Studio’s emulator screenshot control and one command-line route. Android’s emulator screenshot guide lists screenrecord screenshot [destination-directory] and adb emu screenrecord screenshot [destination-directory].

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
- Wait until the app is displaying the exact state you want to capture.
- Save a screenshot using the Android Studio emulator control.
- Save another using one of the documented command-line routes.
- Compare the original PNG files, including their dimensions and affected pixels. Do not resize or recompress them before comparing.
If one route is correct and another is not, focus first on the failing route and its version or configuration. If both show the same defect, also investigate app state and rendering. This is a useful diagnostic comparison, not proof that the capture paths are fully independent.
Check the emulator’s graphics mode when it glitches
If the defect appears tied to emulator graphics compatibility or an app crash, record the current AVD graphics mode and host GPU/driver before changing settings. Android’s emulator troubleshooting guidance describes changing the AVD graphics rendering mode to software or launching the emulator with -gpu swiftshader for some compatibility problems.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
The same guidance documents a specific Chrome/Vulkan compatibility case with the -feature -Vulkan workaround. That is a targeted option for the described case, not a general fix for black or incomplete screenshots. Change one relevant setting at a time and compare with the original configuration; graphics options can affect performance and stability, and their behavior depends on the host.
For a reproducible bug report, include the emulator version and graphics mode, AVD and system image details, host GPU and driver, operating system, screenshots, and logs. The troubleshooting guidance explains how to report unresolved problems, while the release notes can help identify version-specific rendering or screenshot issues.

If your app uses PixelCopy
PixelCopy copies the most recently queued buffer from a Surface or SurfaceView; it does not create a frame that the surface has not produced. Android’s PixelCopy API reference defines ERROR_SOURCE_NO_DATA as a surface source that has not queued any buffers.
- Confirm the source surface exists and is valid, and wait until it has queued a frame before requesting the copy.
- Check the completion callback’s status. Do not assume the destination bitmap contains valid pixels when the request fails.
- Handle the API’s documented errors, including timeout, invalid or destroyed source, and invalid, oversized, or destroyed destination.
- Check the destination bitmap’s dimensions and configuration. The destination controls the output size, and the source is scaled to fit, so a mismatch can look distorted.
If ordinary UI and animated surface content appear to come from different moments, coordinate the app state and capture timing, then reproduce after the surface is ready. The API documents which surface buffer it copies, but does not establish an atomic snapshot across that surface and unrelated views.

Inspect SurfaceView and custom surface consumers
SurfaceView renders through a separate surface and buffer path, commonly used for sources such as camera or OpenGL ES output. That makes its producer and buffers a distinct place to inspect from ordinary view drawing. Android’s graphics architecture documentation can help orient that distinction.
- Check surface creation and destruction, lifecycle transitions, and first-frame timing.
- Verify buffer dimensions and whether the chosen capture method includes the surface content.
- For
SurfaceTextureorImageReaderconsumers, inspect how promptly updates are consumed and whether backpressure is building.
The HardwareRenderer API documentation warns that custom consumers must consume updates promptly; otherwise, a render thread can stall on the surface and block HardwareRenderer instances. In that case, investigate listener or reader cadence alongside screenshot code.

Use frame-time diagnostics without confusing them for capture validation
Android’s Profile GPU Rendering guide describes a scrolling histogram of UI-window frame times and uses 16.67 ms per frame as a reference. Use the histogram to look for expensive rendering or delayed frames, then capture a known stable state. Slow rendering may contribute to timing symptoms, but the histogram does not tell you whether a capture API selected the intended buffer.
Compare with a physical Android device
When available, reproduce the same state on a physical device. A difference between device and emulator results can help narrow whether the host or emulator graphics path is involved, although it does not by itself prove the cause. Android Studio’s connected-device screenshot instructions require USB debugging. A suitable existing data-capable cable or wireless debugging can be used; emulator-only testing does not require a cable.
Quick Recap
Choose the next check from the comparison
| What you observe | Where to investigate next |
|---|---|
| Android Studio capture is correct, but a command-line image is not | Investigate the failing command route, emulator version, and configuration. |
| All emulator capture routes show the same defect | Check app state and rendering as well as emulator graphics settings; matching results do not prove the routes share every failure mode. |
| Only app-level PixelCopy output is empty or stale | Check source validity, frame readiness, callback status, destination bitmap, and surface lifecycle. |
| Surface content is missing or out of step with ordinary UI | Inspect the separate surface buffer path, capture coverage, and frame timing. |
| Results differ between emulator and physical device | Compare emulator graphics mode and host GPU/driver with the device reproduction, then gather logs and version details. |
