The quickest compliant method is Amazon Associates Central’s SiteStripe: sign in with your Associates account, open the Amazon page you want to recommend, choose Get Link: Text, verify the Associate and tracking IDs, then paste the generated short Special Link into WordPress. Shortening must not disguise that the click leads to Amazon, and your site needs both Amazon’s required Associate statement and a clear disclosure near the recommendation.

What you need before creating the link

  • An active Amazon Associates account and its assigned Associate ID.
  • The tracking ID you intend to use, if your account has more than one.
  • Access to the Amazon account associated with that Associates account.
  • A WordPress post or page where you will place the link.

You do not need a physical product, a special WordPress add-on, or a third-party URL shortener for this workflow. SiteStripe creates a short link directly from the Amazon page you are viewing.

How to create a short Amazon affiliate link with SiteStripe

1. Sign in to the correct Amazon account

Sign in to Amazon using the account connected to your Associates account. SiteStripe uses that session to recognize your publisher account and apply its IDs.

2. Open the destination page

Navigate to the exact Amazon page you want visitors to reach. For a product recommendation, open that product’s detail page rather than a search-results page or a general category page. SiteStripe generates links to the page currently open.

3. Choose Get Link: Text

In the SiteStripe bar, select Get Link: Text. Amazon’s current instructions for the control and link-generation options are in its SiteStripe Help.

4. Check the Associate ID and tracking ID

Review the IDs shown before copying. Amazon says the short link uses the last-used IDs by default, while SiteStripe provides an option to select IDs. Choose the tracking ID that matches the content or campaign you are measuring; do not assume the default is correct.

5. Copy the short URL

Copy the generated text link from SiteStripe. It is a tagged Special Link, not merely an ordinary Amazon URL. Do not run it through another shortening service unless you have separately confirmed that service’s current behavior complies with Amazon’s policies.

6. Add it in WordPress

  1. Open the post or page in the WordPress editor.
  2. Select the words that should be clickable, such as Check the current price on Amazon.
  3. Use the editor’s normal link control (the chain-link button), paste the SiteStripe URL, and apply it.
  4. Keep the wording and surrounding context clear about where the link goes.

WordPress stores and displays the URL; it does not create the Amazon tag. The Associates and tracking parameters must remain intact in the pasted link.

7. Preview and test before publishing

  • Confirm the click opens the intended Amazon page.
  • Check that the URL still contains the tagged Special Link information after saving the draft.
  • Verify that the link’s text or nearby wording does not make the destination ambiguous.
  • Test the published version, not only the editor preview, if your site applies redirects or link-management features.

Amazon disclosure and identification requirements

Put the required Associate statement on your site

Amazon’s Operating Agreement requires this identification statement: “As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.” Place it where site visitors can find it clearly, such as your affiliate disclosure page and a persistent footer or disclosure section where appropriate. Review the Amazon Associates Operating Agreement for the current wording and terms.

Add a disclosure beside the recommendation

Amazon’s disclosure guidance calls for a clear, conspicuous disclosure near the affiliate link or product recommendation. Examples given by Amazon include (paid link), #ad, and #CommissionsEarned. For example:

Check the current price on Amazon (paid link).

Those examples address Amazon’s program guidance; other legal disclosure obligations can depend on your jurisdiction and audience. Make the relationship understandable before a visitor clicks, rather than relying only on a distant policy page. See Amazon’s disclosure help.

What “short” may and may not mean

A SiteStripe short link is shorter than the full generated URL, but it still needs to function as an identifiable Amazon destination and retain the correct Associates ID. Amazon’s Program Policies state: You will not use a link shortening service, button, hyperlink or other ad placement in a manner that makes it unclear that you are linking to an Amazon Site. Read the Amazon Associates Program Policies before adding redirects, cloaking, pop-ups, or other link treatments.

  • Appropriate: a normal text link whose wording says it goes to Amazon, with the SiteStripe-generated tagged URL behind it.
  • Risky: a generic “Click here” button, an opaque redirect, or a third-party short URL that hides the Amazon destination.

Do not describe a third-party shortening service as Amazon-approved unless you have checked its current behavior and the applicable policy.

SiteStripe versus a WordPress plugin

Amazon’s link-building documentation identifies SiteStripe as the quick way to create a link from an Amazon page and references WordPress product-link tooling. The official material does not establish a particular plugin’s current availability, maintenance status, or short-URL capabilities. SiteStripe is therefore the documented choice for creating a short link; a plugin is optional and should be evaluated separately.

Consideration SiteStripe WordPress plugin
Where the link is created On the Amazon page, through SiteStripe Inside WordPress, depending on the plugin
Associate and tracking IDs Shown and selectable in SiteStripe; verify before copying Behavior varies; confirm which IDs it applies
Short-link capability Officially documented for SiteStripe Not established by the cited documentation
URL preservation in WordPress Paste the generated tagged URL and check it remains intact Confirm the plugin does not replace, redirect, or strip tags
Destination clarity and disclosure Still your responsibility in the editor and published page Still your responsibility; automation does not remove disclosure duties
Support status Covered by Amazon’s current SiteStripe documentation Verify current maintenance and compatibility before relying on it

Amazon’s broader link-building help is the appropriate starting point when you are considering tooling beyond SiteStripe.

Common problems and fixes

SiteStripe is missing

Check that you are signed in to the Amazon account associated with Associates, that you are on an Amazon page where SiteStripe is available, and that you are using the intended regional Associates account. If the bar still does not appear, consult Amazon’s current SiteStripe Help rather than copying an untagged URL.

The link opens the wrong page

Return to the exact product or destination page, generate a new link, and test it in a private browser window. A link created while viewing a search page will not necessarily take visitors to the product you meant to recommend.

The wrong tracking ID is attached

Generate the link again and use SiteStripe’s ID-selection option instead of accepting the last-used default. Keep a record of which tracking ID each WordPress placement uses.

The URL changed after publishing

Inspect the link in the published page. Remove or reconfigure any redirect, cloaking, or link-management feature that strips the Associates tag or makes Amazon unclear as the destination, then retest.

The page has no visible disclosure

Add the required site statement and a nearby link-level disclosure before publishing. A disclosure hidden only in a footer or policy page may not satisfy the practical need for a clear, conspicuous notice beside the recommendation.
