Create two playlists in YouTube Studio to organize Indian music for daytime and nighttime listening. But playlists do not automatically change the audio of a continuous live stream at a set time. For that, switch media sources in an encoder such as OBS, schedule two separate broadcasts, or use a cloud service to keep uploaded videos streaming to YouTube.
Choose what you want the playlists to do
There are three different ways to use “daytime and nighttime playlists”:
- Help viewers choose music: Create two regular YouTube channel playlists and share their links.
- Change the sound of one continuous live stream: Set up separate media sources or scenes in an encoder, then switch between them.
- Present two distinct programs: Schedule separate live events with their own watch pages.
A YouTube playlist is an organized collection, not a schedule for a live encoder. YouTube’s playlist and live-stream settings describe separate workflows, and the reviewed official instructions do not document a playlist-driven, time-triggered audio change in a continuous stream. Create the two playlists in YouTube Studio
- Open the playlist creator. In YouTube Studio, select Create → New playlist.
- Name and describe the daytime playlist. For example, use “Indian Music — Daytime.” In the description, explain the intended mood or listening period. This is a naming suggestion, not a required YouTube format.
- Repeat for nighttime. Create a second playlist, such as “Indian Music — Nighttime,” with a distinct description so viewers can tell the collections apart.
- Set visibility. Choose public for a discoverable, shareable playlist; unlisted if you want to share it by link; or private for internal curation. Check the current Studio interface, particularly if the account is supervised, because available features can vary.
- Add and order videos. Select the videos for each collection and arrange them intentionally. YouTube Studio supports reordering videos. Periodically check that the videos remain available.
- Share the playlists where viewers need them. Add their links to your channel surfaces, stream description, or a pinned comment. Keep names and visual identity distinct where those options are available.
YouTube Help lists a 150-character playlist-title limit and a 5,000-character description limit on its playlist management page, accessed October 3, 2026. It also notes a daily cap on public playlist creation across YouTube, YouTube Music, and the API. Check the current page for applicable account limits: Manage playlists in YouTube Studio.

Make the music change during one continuous stream
For a single stream whose audio changes from day to night, configure the media in your encoder. The example below uses OBS Studio. It provides a manual transition; the cited OBS guidance supports playlists and scene hotkeys, not an automatic clock-based switch.
Prepare separate Day and Night sources
- Organize the media files. Put the files intended for each period into separate, clearly named lists or folders. Confirm you have the rights needed to use every recording in a live stream.
- Create the scenes in OBS. Make a Day scene and a Night scene, or set up separate sources within an existing scene. Scenes determine which media or other sources OBS outputs.
- Add a VLC Video Source for local files. In the appropriate scene, add a VLC Video Source and populate its playlist with the relevant media. OBS documents that this source can hold a playlist of items. VLC must be installed for the source to be available. See OBS Media Sources.
- Choose playback behavior. Leave shuffle off for a fixed sequence; enable looping if that list should repeat. Decide how the transition should work for your program, and check the output before going live.
- Set a manual transition. Switch from the Day scene to the Night scene at the desired time, either by selecting it in OBS or configuring a scene-switching hotkey. OBS’s overview documents scene switching and hotkeys: OBS Studio Overview Guide.
These instructions cover the media playlist and scene-switch setup, not a particular broadcast bitrate or resolution: those depend on the media, connection, encoder, and stream configuration. Use YouTube Live Control Room to configure the stream and connect OBS with YouTube’s server URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password; anyone with access to it may be able to broadcast to your channel. YouTube’s encoder setup is documented at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

Schedule separate daytime and nighttime broadcasts
If the programs should have separate watch pages rather than one continuous stream, schedule two live events in YouTube Live Control Room. Give each event its own title, description, and time, then connect the encoder and send the corresponding content for that broadcast. YouTube says scheduling lets you promote a stream; viewers can find an upcoming event and opt for reminders. Scheduling creates an event—it does not automate a day-to-night audio change inside one continuous broadcast. See YouTube’s encoder streaming guidance.

Clear music rights before going live
Being able to add a track to a YouTube playlist does not establish permission to broadcast it live. YouTube’s live-stream terms say the creator represents that they have all necessary rights to exploit live content on Google services, including music licensing rights involving artists, record labels, publishers, public-performance licenses, and other royalty participants. Review the YouTube livestream terms and conditions and verify the rights that apply to your repertoire and territories before streaming. The reviewed sources do not establish which Indian licenses or permissions a particular channel needs, so do not treat this as an India-specific legal determination.
