To run separate 24/7 YouTube radio stations for different moods at the same time, create a distinct live feed and broadcast for each station, then send each feed its own continuous audio-video program. An ambient station and an upbeat station need independent feeds if they are playing different music simultaneously; one shared feed can instead be associated with multiple broadcasts when the same content should appear in more than one video.
Choose whether you need separate feeds or just separate videos
YouTube distinguishes a liveStream—the feed sent to YouTube—from a liveBroadcast, which represents a broadcast. YouTube’s Live Streaming API documents separate stream resources for broadcasts that run simultaneously, as well as binding multiple broadcasts to one stream when they should show the same content. See YouTube Live Streaming API documentation and its liveBroadcast resource documentation.
| What you want | Feed and broadcast approach |
|---|---|
| Ambient and upbeat stations playing different music at the same time | Plan a separate stream resource and broadcast for each mood station. |
| The same program displayed in more than one YouTube video | YouTube documents associating multiple broadcasts with one stream. This duplicates the same feed; it does not create different music programming. |
| Different moods, but only one needs to be live at a time | Decide whether to switch the program on one feed or maintain separate broadcasts. Separate feeds are needed when the stations must operate independently or simultaneously. |
For each independent station, decide its mood, track sequence, visual treatment, broadcast identity, encoder configuration, and rights coverage before setting it up.
Build and start each mood station
- Plan the station. List which moods need to run concurrently and whether each will use distinct tracks. Treat every distinct simultaneous program as its own feed and broadcast.
- Prepare continuous audio and video. Assemble the music and visuals for each station into a feed that can run continuously. YouTube’s documentation describes sending a feed to YouTube through an encoder, but the official sources cited here do not prescribe one encoder product, operating system, computer specification, or 24/7 restart script. See YouTube’s live encoder setup guidance and its Live Streaming API documentation.
- Create a distinct YouTube stream and broadcast for each independent station. Keep the stream settings and broadcast identity matched to the mood feed they represent. Do not use a shared stream if the broadcasts need to carry different music.
- Configure an encoder for each feed. Send each station’s continuous audio-video program to its corresponding YouTube stream. The settings and procedure depend on the encoder and ingestion protocol you choose; do not assume HLS requirements apply to other protocols.
- Test before leaving a station unattended. Confirm that each broadcast plays the intended mood program and that its rights arrangements cover the tracks, territories, live use, and any archive or replay use you plan.
Apply HLS settings only if you use HLS ingestion
YouTube’s HLS setup guidance specifies these requirements for HLS output; they are not universal settings for every YouTube encoder or ingestion method. Follow the current YouTube HLS ingestion setup when configuring this protocol:

- Use TS media segments lasting 1–4 seconds.
- Maintain a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments.
- Use HTTPS POST/PUT for delivery.
- Choose an encoder that supports HLS output; YouTube lists OBS among the supported encoder options.
Clear music and visual rights before broadcasting
YouTube Help says it scans live streams for third-party content, including copyrighted content appearing in another live broadcast. If YouTube identifies third-party material, it may replace the stream with a placeholder image; if the material remains, the live stream may be interrupted or terminated. YouTube advises creators with licensed third-party material to ask the rights holder to add their channel to the Content ID allowlist. An archived stream can also receive a Content ID claim after the live broadcast ends. Read YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.
A license by itself is not a guarantee against automated interruption: verify the actual tracks, territories, live-stream permission, archive/replay rights, and any channel allowlisting needed for your arrangement. YouTube’s separate live Content ID matching guidance describes a specialized feature for eligible partners with Content Manager-level access and global, exclusive rights to the matched content. It is not a general music-clearance tool, and the guidance says third-party content such as background music is not permitted in a stream using that feature.

Choose how to keep each station running
You can operate the encoder on a computer you control, or use a cloud service that plays uploaded videos to YouTube. YouTube’s documentation supports an encoder-based workflow but does not establish a required computer model, minimum hardware specification, or preferred remote-hosting vendor. A dedicated PC is optional, not a YouTube requirement.

StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for keeping a channel live from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live; the cloud keeps looping the uploaded program, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. For separate mood stations, set up a distinct slot and program for each feed you need to run independently.
