Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteCreate a social-media image by choosing its platform and dimensions first, then building one clear message into a consistent, readable design. Check contrast, image rights and alt text, export in a suitable format, and preview the result in the platform’s composer. For posts on several networks, adapt the layout to each destination rather than relying on one crop to fit them all.
1. Decide what the image needs to do
Before opening a design tool, identify the post’s objective, audience and destination. Is the image meant to stop a scroll, explain a point, announce something or prompt a click? Choose one primary message. If the graphic is trying to deliver several unrelated messages, simplify it or make a short series of images.
Write the headline or key phrase before designing. Keep supporting copy brief; put longer explanations in the post caption, where they are easier to read and can be updated without rebuilding the graphic. If the image carries essential information, include that information in the caption or post text as well.
2. Choose the platform canvas before designing
Start with the dimensions for the intended placement, not a generic square that you hope every platform will display correctly. Adobe advises using high-resolution images sized for the intended social channel because incorrect dimensions can lead to stretching, blur or cropping. Its 2025 examples are:
#1 Best Overall
| Placement | Example dimensions |
|---|---|
| Standard Instagram image | 1080 × 1080 pixels |
| Instagram Story | 1080 × 1920 pixels |
| Facebook feed post | 1200 × 630 pixels |
These are examples, not a guarantee that every placement or format uses the same specification indefinitely. Confirm the current requirements for your specific destination before publishing; feeds, stories, ads and profile surfaces can have different display behavior.
Plan for cropping and interface overlays
Keep important text, faces, logos and calls to action away from the edges. A platform may crop an image in a preview or cover part of a vertical image with interface controls. Leave breathing room around the main content, and preview the crop in the actual post composer where possible.
If you are posting to several channels, make a separate version for each relevant aspect ratio. Preserve the same message and visual identity, but adjust the crop, line breaks and spacing to suit each canvas. Adobe’s social-content materials describe adapting and previewing designs for TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X and Pinterest; available dimensions can change, so check the target platform’s current specifications.

3. Set a simple visual system
Consistency makes a set of posts recognizable without forcing every graphic into the same layout. Define a small set of rules before building templates:
- Choose two or three brand colors, including colors that give text enough contrast against its background.
- Use one or two typefaces and reserve the most distinctive style for short headlines.
- Decide how the logo appears, including its size and clear space.
- Set an image style, such as photography, illustration or simple shapes, and use it consistently.
- Choose a tone and spacing approach that suit the audience and the subject.
Adobe recommends brand guidance that covers tone, mood, image treatments, logo use, copy over images and context. A compact guide also helps collaborators create new posts without introducing conflicting colors, fonts or logo treatments.
4. Build a clear, readable layout
Give the headline the strongest contrast and the largest type. Use one focal image or shape to support the message, then make secondary details visibly subordinate. A useful check is to reduce the design to phone size: if the main point is not immediately readable, remove copy, enlarge the headline or simplify the background.

Check contrast and accessibility
For regular text, the U.S. General Services Administration’s Section508.gov social-media guidance recommends a contrast ratio of 4.5:1; for large text, it recommends 3:1. Check text against the exact background behind it, especially when the background is a photograph or gradient. A translucent panel or solid-color block can improve legibility.
Add a concise alt-text description using the platform’s image-description control. Describe the information or purpose that matters rather than listing every decorative detail. Do not leave essential information only inside an image: repeat it in the post copy so it remains available to people who cannot see the graphic and to anyone encountering a compressed or cropped version.

Limit the number of text sizes and avoid tiny footnotes. Check that a logo, disclaimer or call to action remains legible at the size people are likely to see in a feed. A design that looks balanced on a large desktop canvas may feel crowded on a phone.

5. Confirm you have the right to use every asset
Check rights for photographs, illustrations, fonts, logos and other assets before publishing. Meta’s Help Center says that content posted to Instagram or Threads must not violate someone else’s intellectual-property rights. Ask whether you created the asset, have permission to use it, qualify for an applicable exception or are using public-domain material.
Finding an image online, modifying it, giving credit, adding a disclaimer or buying a copy does not automatically make a use lawful. Canva permits its content in marketing and social-media designs subject to its license, but says not to resell or redistribute Canva content. Check the applicable license for the specific asset and use; do not assume that permission for one design or purpose covers every reuse.
6. Export, inspect and upload
Choose the export format based on the content. Canva notes that Facebook, Instagram and X compress uploads, so start with a high-quality source image, check the dimensions and inspect the downloaded file before upload.
Best Value
- PNG: Usually a suitable choice for text-heavy graphics, logos and flat-color illustrations.
- JPG: Often a practical choice for photographic posts when file size matters.
After exporting, open the downloaded image and inspect it at 100%: look for soft text, unexpected artifacts, missing edges, color changes and accidental transparency. Then upload it and check the final preview in the platform composer. The platform may recompress the file, so the composer preview is a useful last check for cropping and legibility.
7. Pick a tool that fits your workflow
Canva and Adobe Express are both options for creating social graphics. Compare them against the work you actually need to do rather than choosing on templates alone:
| What to compare | Questions to ask |
|---|---|
| Channel-specific resizing | Can you adapt the design to each destination’s canvas and adjust the crop and layout? |
| Templates and brand controls | Can you reuse templates, colors, fonts and logo treatments consistently? |
| Export | Can you download the formats and image quality your posts need? |
| Licensing | Do the asset terms cover the intended marketing, social-media and reuse context? |
| Accessibility | Can you check contrast and add or manage descriptions for the published image? |
| Collaboration and publishing | Does the workflow support the people who need to review, preview or schedule posts? |
Adobe’s materials describe resizing and previewing social content across platforms. Canva’s guidance covers export quality and content licensing. Check each product’s current features and terms for your account and intended use; the material cited here does not establish a feature-by-feature winner.

Meta says it is working with C2PA and IPTC indicators and labels detected AI-generated images on Facebook, Instagram and Threads. Keep prompts or project notes that help explain how an image was made, avoid presenting deceptive photorealistic imagery as documentary fact, and review the destination platform’s current disclosure controls before posting. Detection and labels may depend on available signals, so do not assume that every generated image will automatically be identified.

If your workflow also needs screenshots of web pages—for example, to illustrate a post or capture a reference—ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF. It accepts consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets before capture; these steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits cost nothing, with response headers indicating the page verdict and billing status. AI agents can use its MCP server tools, including take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf.
Example cURL request (replace YOUR_API_KEY with your key):
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for request options. The free plan includes 1,000 shots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. Sign up for 1,000 free screenshots a month—no card required.
Quick Recap
Common problems and fixes
- The post looks blurry: Confirm the canvas dimensions, use a high-quality source image and inspect the export at 100%. Canva notes that social platforms compress uploads; for text and flat graphics, try PNG.
- Text or a logo is cut off: Move key content inside safer margins, export a destination-specific version and check the crop in the platform composer.
- The message is hard to read: Increase headline size, remove supporting copy, strengthen contrast and review the design at phone size.
- One design does not fit every platform: Create versions for the actual placements instead of stretching or cropping one canvas indiscriminately; reflow text and reposition focal elements.
- You are unsure whether an image is usable: Verify that you created it, have permission, qualify for an exception or have confirmed it is public domain. Check the license for stock or design-library assets before use.
- An AI image’s status is unclear: Preserve project notes and check the platform’s current disclosure controls rather than relying solely on automatic labeling.
