Pair it with the page’s title, canonical URL, and description, then check the deployed HTML and preview. The Open Graph Protocol defines these page-level tags; it does not establish current Facebook image-size limits or guarantee how a particular preview will appear.
Choose the right image for each property page
Use an image that accurately represents the property or the specific landing page being shared. For a listing, that will often be an approved property photograph. You can also compose a branded share graphic from a property image, but keep essential text and branding secondary so the property remains understandable at small preview sizes.
There is no India-specific image rule established by the Open Graph Protocol. Apply the same basic test to every locality and language: the image should match the listing, and any place names or property details in the accompanying text should be accurate. Confirm you have permission to use the photograph or other visual.
| Approach | Useful when | Check before publishing |
|---|---|---|
| Approved property photograph | You want the preview to reflect the actual property with minimal production work. | It is the correct property, clearly framed, and still recognizable when displayed small. |
| Designed share graphic | You need consistent branding or a composed image for a particular listing or campaign. | The property remains prominent, text is legible at small scale, and the graphic does not imply inaccurate features. |
Either approach requires page-specific metadata: changing an ordinary image within the page body is not the documented Open Graph control for choosing a link preview image. The Open Graph Protocol describes og:image as the image URL representing the page or object. See the Open Graph Protocol.

Add Open Graph tags to the page head
Put the metadata in the rendered HTML document’s <head>. For a property listing, adapt this example with the actual page URL, image URL, and accurate listing details:
<head prefix="og: https://ogp.me/ns#">
<meta property="og:title" content="2-bedroom apartment in [Locality], [City]" />
<meta property="og:type" content="website" />
<meta property="og:url" content="https://www.example.in/property/listing-slug" />
<meta property="og:image" content="https://www.example.in/media/listing-share-image.jpg" />
<meta property="og:image:alt" content="Exterior view of the listed apartment building" />
<meta property="og:description" content="View details, photos, and listing information for this property." />
</head>
The four basic Open Graph properties are og:title, og:type, og:image, and og:url. For an ordinary property page, website is a suitable og:type value. Use the page’s canonical URL for og:url; the protocol defines it as the object’s permanent identifier. The protocol calls og:description optional and generally recommended. Its introductory statement says, “The Open Graph protocol enables any web page to become a rich object in a social graph.”

Make every value match the listing
og:title: identify the property or page clearly, such as by property type and locality.og:url: use the canonical page URL, not a different listing or an unrelated campaign page.og:image: use an absolute, publicly fetchable URL to the chosen share image.og:description: summarize what the visitor will find on that page.og:image:alt: describe what the image depicts; it is descriptive alternative text, not a caption.
The protocol advises specifying og:image:alt when a page has an og:image. It also documents optional image properties: og:image:type, og:image:width, og:image:height, and og:image:secure_url. These fields describe the image; their presence in the protocol is not evidence of a Facebook minimum size, required format, or recommended dimensions.
Choose where to manage metadata
If your content-management system has page-level social metadata fields, use them for the listing title, canonical URL, image, and description. If it does not, add the fields in the page template or application code that generates the HTML head. The Open Graph Protocol specifies the metadata, not how a particular CMS or framework exposes it.

Whichever method you use, inspect the final rendered HTML for an actual deployed property page. A value entered in an editor is not enough if the published document omits it, uses a default image, or repeats the same listing metadata across every page.
Handle multiple images deliberately
The protocol permits repeated values for array properties. When a page declares several og:image values, place the preferred image first. Open Graph’s ordering guidance says that the first tag from top to bottom takes preference in conflicts. Do not assume a later property image will override an earlier default: inspect the order in the rendered head. See the protocol’s ordering guidance.

Verify the page and troubleshoot the preview
- Inspect the deployed page source or rendered DOM. Confirm the tags are inside the head and each property page has its own intended title, canonical URL, image URL, alternative text, and description.
- Check the image URL itself. Open it independently and confirm it resolves to the intended image. The protocol defines the field as an image URL but does not document Facebook crawler access rules or image-host response-code requirements.
- Use Meta’s current sharing preview or debugging tool, if available. Facebook-specific cache refresh steps, cache timing, and debugger behavior are not established by the Open Graph Protocol. Follow the current Meta documentation or tool rather than relying on a guaranteed refresh method.
- Recheck after changing metadata. Confirm the live page now emits the new value and use the current platform tool to inspect the preview. A page-source change alone does not establish how quickly an existing preview will update.
| Symptom | What to check |
|---|---|
| Wrong property image appears | Check that og:image on that page points to the correct absolute URL and that no earlier image tag or shared template default is taking precedence. |
| Every listing shows the same preview | Check whether the CMS or template is emitting page-specific metadata, rather than a site-wide default, in each listing’s rendered head. |
| Preview title or description is inaccurate | Compare the rendered og:title and og:description values with the listing. Correct the page metadata rather than only changing visible body copy. |
| Image URL does not load as expected | Verify the exact URL and the image at that address. The Open Graph Protocol page does not establish crawler access, supported file formats, or response-code rules; consult current Meta guidance for platform-specific requirements. |
The Open Graph Protocol documentation does not establish current Facebook image pixel dimensions, file-size limits, accepted formats, cache lifetimes, crawler access rules, or a guaranteed cache-refresh procedure. Check current Meta guidance for those platform-specific details instead of treating third-party size recommendations as official requirements.

If your goal is to capture a property page for review or documentation, ScreenshotNeo can return a screenshot or PDF with one API request. That is separate from setting Open Graph metadata: it does not configure the image Facebook uses in a link preview. ScreenshotNeo removes cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed. Its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card, and paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. See ScreenshotNeo.
