You can keep a YouTube channel live with prerecorded videos by sending a prepared video feed from an encoder to YouTube Live Control Room. YouTube provides the livestream connection, scheduling and stream settings; the encoder or a playout service must handle video playback, looping and recovery. YouTube’s help pages do not describe a native feature for looping uploaded files indefinitely.
What you need to run a 24/7 YouTube livestream
- A YouTube channel eligible to livestream. YouTube says the channel must be verified, have no live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16. Check YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance. If your channel is restricted, streaming from another channel to get around the restriction is not allowed; see YouTube’s restriction guidance.
- Video files and any included audio that you have the necessary rights to livestream.
- An encoder or managed playout service that can send a feed to YouTube and play or loop your prepared videos. Confirm that it can also meet your schedule and recovery needs; YouTube’s encoder instructions explain connecting a feed, not which product can provide continuous playback.
- A reliable operating plan. If you run your own encoder, you are responsible for the computer or hardware, network connection, playback and restart workflow. YouTube’s stream settings do not themselves guarantee indefinite playback or automatic recovery from an encoder or network failure.
Set up the YouTube stream and connect your playback system
- Choose your encoder or playout method. Select software, hardware or a managed service that supports your video format and intended schedule. Before committing, verify that it can loop a playlist, reconnect or restart after an interruption, and use YouTube’s stream URL and key. YouTube supports software encoding; it recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production events, but hardware is not a requirement for a basic prerecorded channel. - Create or schedule an encoder stream. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create a stream or schedule one. Scheduling can give viewers an upcoming watch page to find and a chance to set reminders. You can reuse stream settings, including a custom stream key. Review the available controls in Manage live stream settings.
- Copy the connection details. In Live Control Room, copy YouTube’s server URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: it authorizes an encoder to send video to the stream, so do not publish it or share it with people who should not control the broadcast.
- Enter the details in the encoder. In the encoder’s stream settings, paste the server URL and key. Choose the prepared video or playlist and configure the encoder’s playback and reconnection behavior. The exact controls depend on the software, hardware or service you choose; YouTube’s generic setup instructions do not prescribe a particular looping product. - Start sending the feed and verify it. Start the encoder output, then check Live Control Room for the incoming preview and stream status before relying on unattended playback. Once the encoder is sending, YouTube creates the stream’s watch page. If you scheduled it, check the stream’s start behavior and whether auto-start or auto-stop is enabled; these are stream controls, not file-looping controls.
- Test the unattended workflow. Check what happens when a video ends, the encoder restarts, or the network connection drops. Confirm that playback resumes as intended and that the stream is still receiving a feed. YouTube’s reviewed guidance does not establish guaranteed uptime or automatic restart after an encoder or network failure, so those behaviors depend on your chosen playback system.
Understand YouTube’s limits and controls
Auto-start and auto-stop are not video looping
YouTube documents auto-start and auto-stop options for livestreams, as well as scheduling and reusable settings. Those controls do not provide a native playlist that loops prerecorded files indefinitely. Use an encoder or playout service for the prepared-video playback itself, and verify its looping and recovery behavior with the provider.
Archiving under 12 hours is not a maximum stream duration
YouTube says, “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived.” That statement describes archiving; it does not say that 12 hours is the maximum duration of a livestream. Do not treat the archive guidance as proof that a continuous broadcast will be saved as one recording.

There is no format-specific blanket approval
YouTube’s published materials establish how to connect an encoder and set out general livestream, rights and monetization rules. They do not directly say that every continuous stream made only from prerecorded videos is either permitted or prohibited as a format. Follow the general rules and do not interpret encoder support as a promise that a particular channel or broadcast will be approved or monetized.

Check rights, originality and monetization before going live
Clear rights to everything in the feed
You are responsible for obtaining the rights needed to livestream video, music and other material, and for complying with applicable law and YouTube rules. Permission to use material does not by itself guarantee that a channel meets YouTube’s monetization policies. Review YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions.
Meet channel-level originality policies
YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to the channel, not just one video. Its July 15, 2025 update renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content” and clarified that repetitive or mass-produced material is ineligible for monetization. Reused content is a separate consideration: YouTube looks at whether material taken from YouTube or elsewhere has significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value. Owning a video or having permission to use it does not, on its own, resolve the reused-content question. Read YouTube’s channel monetization policies.

Do not assume a 24/7 format qualifies for revenue
For eligible channels with monetization enabled, YouTube lists livestream ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and memberships as possible revenue routes. Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve, and the availability of these features does not establish that a particular always-on prerecorded channel qualifies. Choose how to keep the feed running
The main trade-off is who operates the playback system and handles interruptions. YouTube’s official encoder guidance explains the connection, but does not document product-by-product performance for looping, recovery, maintenance or cost.
