To rotate music genres by day, schedule a separate YouTube Live event for each day or genre edition in YouTube Studio. You can create each event from scratch or reuse settings from an earlier stream, then set its date, time, title and description. YouTube’s documented scheduling tools do not provide an automatic weekday-to-genre rotation, so plan the rotation yourself and schedule its events individually.
Plan the weekly genre rotation
Decide which genre belongs to each day before creating events. You might use a different genre every day, or repeat a smaller selection through the week. YouTube does not prescribe a cadence or identify a genre schedule that will grow an audience; choose a pattern you can produce consistently.
Write down each edition’s genre, date, start time and any details viewers need to distinguish it from the others. Keeping that plan in one place helps prevent mismatched titles, descriptions and event times.
Schedule one YouTube Live event for each edition
- Open scheduling: In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live > Manage > Schedule Stream. You can create a new event or choose Reuse settings to carry over settings from an earlier stream. The exact interface can change, so consult YouTube Help’s Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder page if the labels differ.
- Set the event details: For each day’s edition, enter its date and start time, and update the title, description and other genre-specific information. Reusing settings is a starting point, not a substitute for checking that the copied details match the new event.
- Make the genre and day clear: A title such as “Jazz Tuesdays | Live session” is one possible format, not a YouTube requirement. Use the description to explain what the edition contains and include any useful schedule details.
- Repeat for the rest of the week: Create or reuse a separate event for every edition in your rotation. The documented workflow schedules individual events; it does not automatically change a stream’s genre by weekday.
- Share each event: Copy its watch-page URL and share it through the channel surfaces you normally use. Scheduled streams can appear as upcoming, and viewers can select Notify me. See YouTube Help’s Manage live stream settings for details.
Use tags only when they help
YouTube describes tags as descriptive keywords, but says they play a minimal role in discovery except when a video’s content is commonly misspelled. Add relevant tags when useful; do not rely on them as the main way to help viewers find a genre edition. This guidance appears in YouTube Help’s Manage live stream settings.

Secure music rights before scheduling a broadcast
Having a track available to play does not establish that you have permission to broadcast it. YouTube says it scans all live streams for third-party content. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn you to stop using the content; continued use can lead to a temporary interruption or termination. A stream may also end following a copyright or Community Guidelines strike. Read YouTube Help’s Copyright issues with live streams.
YouTube also notes that licensed music can still be interrupted if the rights owner has not added your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Ask the licensor about allowlisting before the event. YouTube’s Livestream terms and conditions state that creators represent and warrant they have the necessary rights for live content on Google services worldwide, including music licensing rights.

- Confirm that your permission covers live streaming, not just personal listening or an on-demand upload.
- Check the territories covered by the permission and whether it covers both the composition and the sound recording, where applicable.
- Ask whether the permission covers an archived replay as well as the live broadcast.
- Ask the rights holder whether your channel needs to be added to its Content ID allowlist.
These are practical checks based on YouTube’s rights terms and enforcement guidance, not legal advice. Licenses can differ, so confirm the scope with the licensor rather than assuming one permission covers every use.
Prepare the encoder and verify each event
If you are using an encoder, YouTube recommends setting it up at least two hours before the event and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start. For a recurring genre schedule, repeat the checks for every edition. Before going live, confirm that you have the correct event selected, that its scheduled time is right, and that the intended audio source is playing. YouTube describes encoders as useful for setups involving external audio or video equipment and more advanced production, but this scheduling task does not itself require buying an encoder.
Check channel eligibility
YouTube’s Get started with live streaming help page says a channel must be verified, must not have had a live-stream restriction in the past 90 days, and the creator must be at least 16 to live stream. Eligibility rules can change; check the current page for the requirements that apply to your channel before scheduling.
