To schedule a YouTube Live event for a 24/7 podcast, open YouTube Studio and select Create → Go Live → Manage → Schedule stream. Add the event details and visibility, then connect an encoder with the stream URL and key shown in Live Control Room. Start the encoder, wait for the preview, and click Go live.
Scheduling creates a shareable watch page and lets viewers set reminders. It does not keep a podcast running continuously by itself. Plan separately for encoder uptime, recovery, monitoring, and recording backups. Most importantly, YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, so do not rely on a single 24-hour broadcast for a complete YouTube archive.
Before scheduling: check that your channel can go live
Confirm channel eligibility before announcing an event. YouTube’s current help guidance requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days, and says creators must be at least 16. Enabling live streaming for the first time can take up to 24 hours, so activate it well before the planned start. Schedule the event in Live Control Room
- Open YouTube Studio. Select Create → Go Live to open Live Control Room.
- Choose the scheduling option. Open Manage, then select Schedule stream.
- Set up the event. Create a new stream or reuse a previous stream’s settings. Enter the event details and choose its visibility.
- Share the event page. Once scheduled, copy the watch-page URL to promote the podcast in advance. Viewers can open the page and set a reminder. Follow YouTube’s instructions for scheduling a live stream.
A scheduled event is a page and a start-time plan—not a 24/7 broadcast mode. The encoder still has to send a live feed, and the stream must be started in Live Control Room.

Connect and start the encoder
- Get the connection details. In Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key for the event.
- Enter them in your encoder. Paste the stream URL and key into the encoder’s streaming settings. The key identifies where the encoder sends the feed; treat it like a password and do not publish it or share it with viewers.
- Start sending the feed. Start the encoder and wait for the incoming video to appear in Live Control Room’s preview.
- Go live on YouTube. When the preview is ready and the signal looks right, click Go live.
- End the broadcast deliberately. At the end of the event, click End Stream in Live Control Room and stop the encoder feed.
YouTube explains the stream URL and key in its encoder setup instructions. Keep the encoder connected and supervised according to your operating plan; scheduling does not restart a failed encoder or guarantee an uninterrupted feed.
Test video, audio, and timing before the event
YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours before an event and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start. Use that time to inspect the preview and the actual watch page, including on a phone. Test representative podcast audio and any motion or graphics that will appear during the broadcast. Confirm that local recording is working and that someone can respond if the feed or audio fails. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.
- Listen for clipping, silence, excessive background noise, and audio/video sync problems.
- Check that the scheduled event is the one receiving the encoder feed.
- Verify the stream key and URL if no preview appears; avoid sharing or exposing the key while troubleshooting.
- Test your recovery procedure and, if you have a backup encoder, failover setup before relying on it.
Choose encoder settings for a stable feed
YouTube recommends RTMPS, an encrypted extension of RTMP, for encoder ingestion. Its guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video, with AAC or MP3 audio; it also recommends constant bitrate encoding and a two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. Consult the current YouTube encoder settings for bitrate ranges by resolution, codec, and frame rate. There is no single bitrate that fits every output: select one appropriate to your resolution and frame rate that your upload connection can sustain reliably.

YouTube transcodes the incoming live feed into formats for viewers. That does not remove the need to send a stable, correctly configured source signal from your encoder.
Set viewer playback behavior
DVR
DVR lets viewers pause and rewind a live stream, then continue watching. Decide whether that suits a continuously running podcast—for example, whether listeners should be able to catch up from earlier in the current broadcast—and check the DVR option in Live Control Room.
Latency
Latency affects how long it takes viewers to see the feed. Lower latency can increase buffering, and YouTube notes that low latency is less important when the creator is not interacting with viewers. For a prerecorded or unattended podcast stream, stability may matter more than minimizing the delay.

Plan for 24/7 continuity and archiving
YouTube’s archive guidance is a significant constraint: streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but streams over 12 hours may not be captured at all. That is not a promise that every stream under the threshold will produce a complete archive, nor a guarantee that a 24-hour stream will be saved. Read YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.

For a continuous channel, decide in advance whether to divide programming into shorter broadcasts or use another archive workflow; account for any interruption or transition that creates. A 24/7 plan also needs an encoder that can run unattended, monitoring, and a tested response to disconnections. YouTube’s documentation recommends checking local archive integrity and testing encoder failover, but does not guarantee uninterrupted availability for a continuous feed.

The event cannot be scheduled or live streaming is unavailable
Check that the channel is verified and has no live-stream restriction within the past 90 days. If live streaming was just enabled, allow up to 24 hours for activation before troubleshooting the event itself.

Live Control Room shows no preview
Confirm that the encoder is running, the correct stream URL and key are entered, and the encoder is sending the intended event’s feed. Recheck the key privately rather than posting it in a support request or public message.
The stream is live but viewers report buffering or poor quality
Check encoder output and upload stability. Choose a bitrate within YouTube’s guidance for the selected resolution, codec, and frame rate, and use constant bitrate encoding. If buffering is frequent, test a less demanding output or a more reliable connection before lowering latency.
The broadcast ended unexpectedly
Inspect the encoder, network, and power conditions, then test reconnection and backup-encoder procedures. A scheduled event does not by itself restart the feed; monitor the stream and establish who will act when the signal drops.

The 24-hour stream is missing from archives
YouTube may not capture streams longer than 12 hours. Check the local recording and any separately configured archive workflow rather than assuming the watch page will contain the full broadcast.
