To create a weekday and weekend schedule for a YouTube radio stream, plan the programs in a calendar, then schedule a separate YouTube broadcast for each airing in YouTube Studio. You can reuse stream settings when the encoder setup stays the same, but check each event’s time, title, description, visibility, and other copied settings.
Here, “playlist schedule” means a schedule for the tracks or programs sent into a live stream. A YouTube playlist, by contrast, organizes published videos on your channel; it does not itself schedule what an encoder plays during a live broadcast.
Plan the weekday and weekend programs first
Write the schedule before creating events in Studio. That gives you a clear source of truth when you enter dates and times for individual broadcasts.
- Choose a time zone: Use one named time zone for the schedule and make it clear to anyone preparing or promoting the shows.
- Define the program blocks: Record the weekday and weekend start and end times, program names, and what content each block will carry.
- Assign responsibility: Note who starts or monitors each broadcast and who checks that the encoder is sending the intended program.
- Choose times for your audience: There is no universal best time established for every radio channel. Use your audience and programming needs to set the hours.
If the weekday and weekend shows use different encoder or stream configurations, plan for separate stream setups. If they use the same delivery configuration, you may be able to reuse stream settings while creating distinct broadcast events.

Create and schedule each YouTube broadcast
YouTube’s documented encoder workflow creates an upcoming broadcast that can be shared and promoted. Viewers may be able to select “Notify me” to receive a reminder. The documented path is Create > Go Live > Manage > Schedule Stream.
- Open the scheduling flow: In YouTube Studio, select Create, then Go Live. Open Manage and choose Schedule Stream.
- Create the broadcast: Start a new stream or select Reuse settings if an earlier event has the setup you need.
- Enter the airing details: Set the date and start time, then check the title, description, visibility, and other event details. Confirm that the information describes this specific weekday or weekend program.
- Repeat for every airing: Create a scheduled broadcast for each date and time on your calendar. Reusing settings saves setup work; it does not automatically change the event date or update its editorial details.
- Promote the upcoming event: Share its watch page after checking the date, time, and visibility. Where available, viewers can choose Notify me.
YouTube explains that scheduling lets creators promote a stream, share its URL, and allow viewers to get reminders for upcoming streams in its encoder streaming guide.

Connect the encoder and start the scheduled event
The encoder sends video and audio to YouTube using the stream URL and stream key. A stream key is a credential: YouTube uses it to identify and accept the encoder’s feed. Keep it private and enter it only in the encoder you intend to use.

- In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, open the scheduled broadcast and locate its stream URL and key.
- Enter those details in your encoder, then start sending the feed.
- Check the Live Control Room preview to confirm the expected program is arriving.
- For the documented scheduled-broadcast workflow, click Go live after the preview is ready. Follow the current prompts in Live Control Room.
Auto-start and Auto-stop are available stream settings that can affect how an encoder starts or stops a broadcast. They may also be included when you reuse settings. Review them for each event rather than treating them as a recurring schedule; YouTube’s live stream settings guide describes the reuse behavior.

What reusing a stream does—and does not do
YouTube’s API distinguishes a broadcast, the scheduled public event, from a stream, the feed and settings sent by the encoder. Google’s documentation explains that a channel with scheduled or recurring events can bind separate broadcast events to one stream resource. It also describes using distinct streams when shows have different settings or schedules. See Understanding Broadcasts and Streams and the YouTube Live Streaming API reference.
In practical terms, reusing a stream key or settings is not the same as creating a recurring public event. The documented Studio route is to schedule broadcasts individually. The cited YouTube guidance does not establish a native Studio control that automatically alternates weekday and weekend playlists on a weekly recurrence.

Keep the live program and channel playlists separate
If you mean a sequence of tracks or shows played into one continuous live feed, build and manage that sequence in the playback or encoder setup that supplies the feed. If you mean grouping already published videos on your channel, use YouTube playlists for organization. The live broadcast scheduling workflow above schedules events; it does not establish automatic playback scheduling for a YouTube channel playlist.
Troubleshoot scheduling and playback problems
- The event appears at the wrong time: Check the calendar’s time zone and the time entered for the broadcast. Correct the event details before sharing its watch page.
- The wrong show information appears: Reused settings can carry metadata from an earlier event. Review the title, description, visibility, and program assignment for every airing.
- The encoder is not sending a feed: Verify that the encoder has the correct stream URL and key for the intended setup, then check the Live Control Room preview.
- The preview is ready but the event has not started: Sending encoder data and starting the scheduled broadcast are separate parts of the documented workflow. Follow the Live Control Room prompts and select Go live when appropriate.
- The stream starts or stops unexpectedly: Review the Auto-start and Auto-stop selections, especially if you reused settings from a prior broadcast.
- The weekday/weekend rotation did not happen automatically: Do not assume that a reused stream or Auto-start setting creates a weekly schedule or rotates content. Schedule each broadcast and manage the programming sequence separately.
