You can create a reusable YouTube stream key in YouTube Studio: open Create → Go Live → Stream, then under Select stream key choose Create new stream key. Configure and create it, then enter the key and YouTube’s stream URL in your encoder. The key can be reused, but it does not keep a broadcast running by itself: the encoder, video source and internet connection must continue sending the stream.
What a reusable stream key does—and does not do
A stream key is a credential your encoder uses, together with YouTube’s server URL, to send a live feed to your channel. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Keep yours private. A custom key can be reused for later connections, so you do not have to create a new one for every broadcast.
For a 24/7 channel, “24/7” describes how the broadcast is operated, not a special kind of stream key. The key does not provide video, start the encoder, reconnect your internet or guarantee that one live event will remain open indefinitely. Your source and encoder must keep sending content, and interruptions need to be monitored and handled.
Check that your channel can livestream
YouTube’s general eligibility guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. The guidance also sets a minimum age of 16. First-time livestreaming enablement can take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s encoder setup instructions, so enable it before you plan to start.

YouTube lists a limit of 10 active streams per channel and three active streams per stream key. If you operate several simultaneous streams, plan your keys and active streams around those limits rather than assigning every feed to a single key.
YouTube’s published workflow is general; it does not describe a separate stream-key creation procedure or distinct eligibility rule for creators in India. The same Studio steps below apply to Indian channels.
Create the custom stream key in YouTube Studio
- Open Live Control Room: Sign in to YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live, and choose Stream.
- Start creating a key: Under Select stream key, choose Create new stream key.
- Configure the key: Set the available options to suit your encoder and stream, then create the key. YouTube adds the custom key to the stream-key list so you can select it again later.
- Copy the connection details: Copy the key and YouTube’s stream URL. Treat the key as confidential; do not publish it, share it in screenshots, or place it where other people can access it.
Interface wording can change. If the labels differ, look in YouTube Studio’s live-stream settings for the stream-key selector and custom-key creation option.

Connect your encoder using the reusable key
- Open the stream settings in your encoder. YouTube supports both software encoders and standalone hardware encoders; dedicated hardware is optional.
- Enter YouTube’s stream URL in the encoder’s server or URL field.
- Enter the custom stream key in the encoder’s stream-key field, then save the settings.
- Start the encoder and check Live Control Room to confirm that YouTube is receiving the feed before you make the stream public or begin your planned broadcast.
For a scheduled broadcast, use the Manage tab in Live Control Room to schedule a stream. YouTube also allows you to reuse settings from a prior stream. Scheduling a broadcast and creating a reusable stream key are separate tasks: scheduling does not replace the encoder connection, and the key does not schedule or supply the content.

Plan continuity for a 24/7 channel
A continuous channel depends on more than the credential. Choose an encoder and video source that can run for the duration you need, keep the encoder connected to the internet, and monitor Live Control Room for interruptions. YouTube’s setup guidance explains connecting an encoder and managing streams, but does not promise uninterrupted service or specify a complete 24/7 automation design.
- Keep the video source available to the encoder for the full broadcast.
- Check the encoder and network if YouTube stops receiving the feed.
- Confirm stream status after starting or reconnecting rather than assuming the key alone means the channel is live.
- Use the active stream and per-key limits when running multiple feeds.
Reset a compromised key
If someone else may have access to your key, reset it in YouTube Studio and replace the old value in your encoder:

- Open YouTube Studio → Go Live → Stream.
- Find Stream key and choose Reset.
- Copy the replacement key and update the encoder’s stream-key field, then reconnect and verify that YouTube receives the feed.
YouTube says only channel owners or managers can reset a key. Resetting invalidates the old credential, so update the encoder promptly; otherwise it will no longer connect with the previous key.
Choose a DIY encoder or a cloud option
YouTube recognizes software encoders and standalone hardware encoders. Its setup instructions do not compare their cost, reliability or suitability for continuous operation, so choose based on your equipment, local availability, support and ability to run continuously. Neither type is required just to create the reusable key.

The encoder cannot connect
Check that the stream URL is in the server or URL field and the key is in the key field; they are separate connection details. Make sure the encoder is using the current key, especially after a reset, and that the channel is eligible to livestream.
YouTube is not receiving a feed after setup
Confirm that the encoder is running and sending video, and check its network connection and the stream status in Live Control Room. Creating or selecting a key alone does not start a feed.

The old key stopped working
The key may have been reset. Copy the current key from YouTube Studio and replace it in the encoder. If you suspect unauthorized access, reset the key and update every encoder configured to use it.
You cannot reset the key
YouTube restricts resetting to channel owners or managers. Ask an owner or manager to perform the reset if your account does not have that role.
A planned stream cannot be enabled
Check channel verification and whether a livestreaming restriction applies. If livestreaming was enabled for the first time, YouTube says activation may take up to 24 hours.
Copyright and channel-policy checks
A reusable key does not grant rights to the video or audio you broadcast. Before using recorded material in a continuous stream, confirm that you have the necessary rights and that the content complies with YouTube’s rules. Reusing a key is a technical convenience, not an exception to copyright or channel policies.
