To create a quick, informal poll in Slack, post a message with the question and a distinct emoji beside each answer, then ask teammates to vote by reacting with their choice. For anonymous voting or a more structured survey, use a Slack Marketplace polling app; for recurring feedback, consider a Workflow Builder form.
How to make a quick poll in a Slack message
Slack describes message polls as a quick, informal way to collect votes. Its Help Center puts it simply: “Survey teammates using a polling app from the Slack Marketplace, or create a quick and informal poll in a message.”

In the channel or conversation where you want to ask, click the compose button to start a message.

Write a specific question and list the answer options. Assign a different emoji to each option; Slack suggests using blockquote formatting to make the choices easier to scan.

Send the message. Add an emoji reaction for each option so people can vote without recreating the emoji themselves.

Ask teammates to react with the emoji that matches their answer. State whether they should choose only one option or select every option that applies. If the poll will guide a decision, include a closing time.
For example, a poll might ask, “Which time works best for the planning session?” and pair each proposed time with its own emoji. Keep choices distinct enough that voters can quickly tell them apart.

Votes appear as reactions in the conversation, so this method should not be described as anonymous. Slack’s instructions also do not establish that reaction polls prevent people from voting more than once. Use an app designed for the required polling behavior when privacy or vote handling matters.
Which Slack poll method should you use?

How to run an anonymous poll with a Slack app
Slack points users to Marketplace polling apps for surveys. For example, the Marketplace listing for Poll App describes anonymous polls. Anonymous voting is a feature claim for that app, not for Slack’s message-and-reaction method; check the listing and app terms to confirm how a particular poll handles responses.
Before installing an app, review the information on its Marketplace listing, including its privacy policy and any security or compliance details it provides. App access scopes determine what the app can access or do. Workspace owners can require approval, and members may be unable to install apps that the workspace restricts.

The Poll App listing states that it is “Free for non-commercial use and tiered plans starting at $15 a month.” That is the listing’s own pricing statement, not a general Slack price; confirm the current price and terms on the Slack Marketplace listing before choosing it.
When to use a Slack Workflow Builder form
A workflow form is a better fit than a one-off reaction poll when you need to gather structured feedback repeatedly. Slack documents a feedback form template that can send responses to a channel and automatically add them to a Google Sheet.
Workflow Builder uses triggers and steps to automate processes. Slack says it is available on paid plans, and workspace owners or admins may limit who can use it. Check your plan and workspace permissions before building a workflow.
