To save a Canva design as a PNG, open the design, choose Publish/Share > Download, select PNG, set the size and quality, choose the pages to export, and click Download. For a transparent PNG, remove the design’s background, enable Transparent background, and then download. Transparent-background export and some advanced size and quality controls require an eligible Canva paid plan.
Save a Canva design as a PNG
PNG is Canva’s export choice for graphics and designs that need transparency. It is usually preferable to JPG when you need a logo, icon, illustration, social graphic, or other artwork with crisp edges or a transparent background.
- Open Canva and create a new design, or open an existing design.
- Finish the artwork. Check text, alignment, images, and any elements that should appear in the final file.
- Open the export controls through Publish/Share > Download.
- In File type, choose PNG.
- Set the export Size and Quality available to your account.
- If the design has more than one page, choose all pages, the current page, or a custom page selection.
- Click Download and save the resulting PNG file.
The exact controls shown in Canva can vary by account plan and by the type of design. If you do not see a control described below, it may not be available on your plan or for that design type.
Choose the right PNG export settings
Canva’s download panel combines file type, dimensions, quality, compression, and page selection. Use the setting that matches the way the image will be used rather than automatically choosing the largest file.
#1 Best Overall
| Setting | What it controls | Practical choice |
|---|---|---|
| File type | The format of the downloaded file. | Choose PNG for graphics, sharp text, and transparency. |
| Size | The exported pixel dimensions. | Use the dimensions required by the destination. A larger value creates a larger file but cannot restore detail missing from the source artwork. |
| Quality | Available quality and compression controls for the export. | Use the highest available setting when clarity matters; use a lower setting only when file size is more important. |
| File-size or compression choices | Trade-offs between download size and image quality. | Keep the least aggressive compression that meets your upload or delivery limit. |
| Pages | Which pages are included in a multi-page design. | Choose all pages for a complete set, the current page for one image, or custom pages for a selected group. |
| Transparent background | Whether the canvas background is omitted. | Turn it on only after removing the background and confirming that transparency is supported for your account and design type. |
Download a transparent PNG without a background
A transparent PNG contains no solid canvas behind the artwork, so it can be placed over another color or image. Selecting PNG alone does not make the background transparent; both the artwork and the export setting must be prepared.
Remove the background from the design
- Delete a background color from the page if one is present.
- Remove a full-page background image or shape.
- Check for large rectangles, gradients, or other elements that cover the canvas and remove them if they are not meant to be part of the image.
Leave the objects you want to keep in the final graphic. A white rectangle that looks like “empty space” is still an opaque element and will appear in the exported file.
Enable transparency during download
- Open Publish/Share > Download.
- Set File type to PNG.
- Turn on Transparent background.
- Choose the required size, quality, and pages.
- Click Download.
Canva states that transparent-background export is available on eligible Pro, Teams, Business, Education, and Nonprofits plans. Canva Docs cannot use this transparent-background export. If the switch is missing or disabled, verify the account plan and confirm that you are exporting a supported design rather than a Canva Doc.
Export one page or several pages
A multi-page Canva design does not have to be downloaded as one undifferentiated file. In the download panel, select the pages you need:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- All pages: creates an export for the complete design.
- Current page: exports only the page you are viewing.
- Custom pages: lets you specify a subset, which is useful when only selected graphics are ready for delivery.
Before downloading, confirm that the page selection matches the number of files you expect. This prevents accidentally exporting an entire presentation when you need one PNG, or exporting only one page when you need a full set.

Make a PNG from a photo in Canva
If you start with a photograph rather than an existing Canva composition, Canva’s PNG Maker workflow can prepare the image before export.
- Upload the photo to Canva and place it in a design.
- Edit the image as needed.
- Use BG Remover when you want Canva to remove the photo’s background.
- Use Magic Grab when you want to separate the subject from the surrounding image and move or edit it independently.
- Open Publish/Share > Download, choose PNG, and download the result.
The resulting PNG can be reused in other designs. Inspect hair, thin objects, and edges after background removal; those areas are where an automatic cutout is most likely to need manual correction.
Fix a blurry Canva PNG
Canva identifies file type and image-quality settings as common causes of a blurry download. Its recommended first step is to download a JPG or PNG using the highest size and quality settings available to your account.

Exporting at a larger size cannot recreate detail that was absent from a low-resolution source image. Replace a small or already-blurred photo with the best source file available, and avoid repeatedly enlarging raster artwork inside Canva.
Check the export controls
- Confirm that File type is PNG if the design contains text, line art, or transparency.
- Increase Size when the destination requires more pixels.
- Choose the highest available Quality and the least aggressive compression option when clarity is more important than download size.
- View the downloaded file at its intended use size. A PNG can look soft when zoomed far beyond the size at which it will be displayed.
Choose settings for common uses
| Your requirement | Recommended approach | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Logo or icon over changing backgrounds | Remove the page background, choose PNG, enable Transparent background, and use sufficient pixel dimensions for the largest placement. | Transparent export may require an eligible paid plan. |
| Single social graphic | Choose PNG, export the current page, and use the destination’s required dimensions. | Do not export every page of a larger design by mistake. |
| Several finished graphics | Choose PNG and select the required custom pages or all pages. | Review the page selection before downloading. |
| Photo cutout | Use BG Remover or Magic Grab, inspect the edges, then export as PNG. | Fine details may need cleanup after automatic separation. |
| Strict upload-size limit | Keep PNG for transparency or graphics, then use Canva’s available size, quality, and compression controls to meet the limit. | More compression can reduce visual quality; compare the file at its actual display size. |
Troubleshooting Canva PNG downloads
“I cannot find the PNG option”
Open the full download panel through Publish/Share > Download rather than using a quick-share shortcut. Then open the File type menu and look for PNG. If it is still unavailable, check whether the design type or account has export restrictions.

“The Transparent background switch is missing”
First remove every background color, image, or covering element from the page. Then confirm that the account is on an eligible Pro, Teams, Business, Education, or Nonprofits plan and that the file is not a Canva Doc. Canva does not offer this export for Canva Docs.
“The downloaded file still has a white background”
Look for a white page background or a white rectangle behind the artwork. Delete or hide that element, enable Transparent background in the download panel, and download again. Open the new file in an editor that displays transparency or place it over a contrasting color to verify the result.
“The PNG is too large to upload”
Reduce the export size to the largest dimensions the destination actually needs, then use Canva’s available quality or compression controls. Do not switch to JPG if transparency is required; JPG cannot provide the transparent result you are trying to preserve.
“The image is blurry even at the highest setting”
Inspect the source images and any enlarged elements. A high-quality export setting improves the download but does not add detail that was never present in the source. Replace low-resolution assets and export again at the intended pixel dimensions.
“Only one page downloaded”
Return to the pages control in the download panel and choose All pages or the required custom range. Current page intentionally exports only the page open in the editor.

Or skip the browser setup
If what you need is a PNG capture of a publicly reachable Canva presentation or other web page—not a transparent asset exported from the Canva editor—ScreenshotNeo can return an image from one API request. It is not a replacement for Canva’s transparent-background export: use Canva when you need editable artwork, page selection, or alpha transparency.
