FFmpeg’s concat demuxer reads that finite list; it does not, by itself, keep a stream running indefinitely. A complete 24/7 setup also needs a streaming output and a tested way to repeat or restart playback.
Create a basic FFconcat playlist manifest
Make a text file such as playlist.ffconcat. Put the header on the first line, with no leading spaces or byte-order mark, then list the audio files in the order you want them played:
ffconcat version 1.0
file '/srv/music/track-001.flac'
file '/srv/music/track-002.flac'
file '/srv/music/track-003.flac'The manifest is an input list, not an audio file or a streaming playlist. The concat demuxer virtually joins the packets from its listed files and adjusts timestamps so each follows the previous one. See the FFmpeg Formats documentation.
Paths, quoting, and safe mode
For a manifest using simple, safely named relative paths, leave FFmpeg’s default safe mode enabled and use entries such as file 'track-001.flac'. The demuxer’s default safe=1 rejects paths it considers unsafe; its safe-path rules include relative paths without protocol syntax and a limited portable character set.

Absolute paths, protocol-like paths, and some special characters can be rejected by safe mode. The example below uses -safe 0 to allow paths that the default would reject. Use that option only for a manifest you control, and do not feed it uncontrolled filenames. Quote and escape paths correctly, and verify that the actual FFmpeg build accepts every entry.
Run the manifest through FFmpeg
This illustrative command reads the manifest, selects the first audio stream, disables video, and encodes AAC audio at 128 kbit/s:
ffmpeg -re -f concat -safe 0 -i playlist.ffconcat -map 0:a:0 -vn -c:a aac -b:a 128k output.aacIt writes a finite output file; it is not a complete 24/7 streaming command. The command is an example, not a tested guarantee for a particular file set or FFmpeg build. For a relative-path manifest that complies with safe mode, omit -safe 0. The -re option reads input at its native rate; it does not make a finite list repeat forever.

Check compatibility before relying on concatenation
The concat demuxer expects the input files to have the same streams, codecs, and time bases. It derives timestamp adjustments from file durations, so inaccurate duration metadata, truncated files, or audio and video streams of unequal length can create gaps or artifacts. The manifest supports directives including duration, inpoint, and outpoint; a duration directive can override duration information. Consult the concat demuxer documentation for syntax and constraints.

- Check the intended sort order rather than assuming a directory scan will produce it.
- Inspect stream properties and duration metadata; test transitions and the end of the list using the same local FFmpeg build you intend to deploy.
- Review FFmpeg’s output logs for invalid entries, timestamp warnings, and premature end-of-file conditions.
Make the finite list part of a 24/7 system
An FFconcat file describes a finite sequence. It does not provide infinite looping, process supervision, health monitoring, storage checks, or recovery if playback or delivery stops. The FFmpeg documentation does not prescribe one universal supervisor design. Choose a repeat or restart strategy appropriate to your deployment, then test it on the target system.
- Repeat or regenerate input: decide how the next run begins when the final entry ends, and how changes to the music library reach the manifest.
- Supervise the process: arrange for failures to be detected and for a stopped process to be restarted or otherwise recovered.
- Monitor operations: keep logs, check stream health and available storage, and define who responds when playback or delivery fails.
- Test recovery: exercise expected failures and confirm the stream resumes as intended before relying on it continuously.
These are deployment choices, not behaviors supplied by the manifest. A generated list can be useful for a controlled directory, but inspect the filenames, ordering, and paths before using it—especially if the command uses -safe 0.

Choose between concat methods and HLS
FFmpeg documents three different concatenation approaches. Choose based on source compatibility, whether re-encoding is acceptable, and whether the container supports physical file-level joining. The FFmpeg FAQ describes the distinctions:

Do not confuse the source manifest with HLS output. An FFconcat file tells FFmpeg which source files to read. The HLS muxer is a separate output-packaging stage that produces a client-facing playlist and media segments; its options include segment duration, playlist type, segment naming, and playlist window. See the FFmpeg all-options documentation. Serving those generated assets also requires a suitable hosting or origin arrangement; choosing one is outside the manifest workflow.
Clear rights for the actual Indian music use
FFmpeg’s ability to play or transmit a recording does not grant permission to do so. Before launching, verify rights for the particular sound recordings and underlying compositions, and for the intended territory, platform, and mode of communication, with the rights holders or qualified counsel. No definitive Indian licensing checklist can be established from the technical documentation cited here, so do not treat a consumer music subscription—or a technically valid manifest—as authorization to rebroadcast.
