In React, “dynamic component” can mean choosing between components already in your app, inserting JSX supplied by a parent, or loading component code only when it is needed. Use conditional rendering for the first case, children for the second, and lazy with Suspense for the third. They solve different problems, so choose based on what needs to change.
Choose the right meaning of “dynamic”
| What needs to change | Use | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Which of several known components appears | Conditional rendering or a finite component map | Selects the UI at runtime; it does not by itself defer downloading component code. See React’s conditional rendering guide. |
| Content inside a reusable wrapper | children or a content prop |
Lets a parent provide JSX without the wrapper knowing how that content is implemented. See Passing Props to a Component. |
| When component code is downloaded | lazy and Suspense |
Defers loading until the lazy component is rendered, with a fallback shown while it loads. See React’s lazy reference. |
Choose among components already in the application
When the alternatives are already imported into your app, use normal JavaScript branching. React’s conditional-rendering model uses JavaScript constructs such as if, &&, and the ternary operator; there is no separate “dynamic component” API required.
Use a ternary for two alternatives
function Results({ view }) {
return view === 'chart' ? <Chart /> : <Table />;
}
This is concise when there are two clear outcomes. If the input can have unexpected values, decide explicitly what the fallback should be rather than silently showing the wrong view.
Use a finite map for several known alternatives
const views = {
chart: Chart,
table: Table,
summary: Summary,
};
function Results({ view, data }) {
const SelectedView = views[view] ?? Summary;
return <SelectedView data={data} />;
}
The map contains component references, not JSX elements. Capitalizing the selected reference lets it be rendered as a component, with props passed in the usual way. This is an application pattern built on JavaScript selection; the React guide does not prescribe a particular mapping technique.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Use if for substantial branches and && for optional UI
function Panel({ status }) {
if (status === 'loading') {
return <LoadingMessage />;
}
if (status === 'error') {
return <ErrorMessage />;
}
return <Results />;
}
function Notice({ show }) {
return <>{show && <StatusNotice />}</>;
}
Use && only when a false condition should render nothing. Because JavaScript returns an operand from &&, use a clearly boolean condition to avoid an unintended value appearing in the output. For a component that should not render, returning null is also valid; React’s guide notes that deciding whether to include a child from its parent is often clearer.
Pass changing content into a reusable wrapper
If the shell stays the same but the content varies, let the caller supply JSX through children. The wrapper can focus on layout and does not need to select or import every possible nested component.

function Card({ title, children }) {
return (
<section className="card">
<h2>{title}</h2>
<div className="card-content">{children}</div>
</section>
);
}
function Dashboard() {
return (
<Card title="Overview">
<Summary />
</Card>
);
}
Use a named content prop instead when the API needs to distinguish several slots, such as a header and footer. React’s guidance on describing the UI also frames component composition as a way to build interfaces from reusable pieces.
Load a component only when it is rendered
Conditional rendering decides which UI appears, but all statically imported alternatives may still be part of the application’s downloaded code. To defer a component’s code, declare it with lazy(() => import(...)) and render it within a Suspense boundary. This path depends on dynamic import() support in the bundler or framework.

import { lazy, Suspense } from 'react';
const SettingsPanel = lazy(() => import('./SettingsPanel.js'));
function Settings({ open }) {
if (!open) return null;
return (
<Suspense fallback={<p>Loading settings…</p>}>
<SettingsPanel />
</Suspense>
);
}
Check the module export and declaration location
- The imported module must provide the component as its
defaultexport for this form oflazy. - Declare the lazy component at module scope, outside other component functions. Creating it during render can reset state on rerenders.
- Choose a useful
fallbackfor the time the code is loading. React’s built-in components reference documentsSuspense.
Handle a failed load separately from a loading state
Suspense provides the loading fallback; it is not the error UI. If the lazy import rejects, React throws the rejection so the nearest Error Boundary can handle it. Add an Error Boundary when users need a recovery path or a clear failure message. React also caches the lazy loader’s promise and its resolved value.
Do not treat arbitrary names as automatic component imports
A finite registry of imported component references is useful when the choices are known. It is different from taking an arbitrary string at runtime and expecting React to import a module with that name. Whether a variable module path can be bundled and loaded is a build-system or framework concern; React’s cited guidance does not guarantee arbitrary runtime module imports. Prefer an explicit registry or a supported bundler-specific pattern, and validate external values before selecting a component.

Which approach should you use?
- Use a conditional or finite map when a state or prop selects among components already available to the app.
- Use
childrenwhen a reusable wrapper should display JSX chosen by its caller. - Use
lazywithSuspensewhen the requirement is to defer loading component code, not merely switch visible content.
