To make a daily journal app without coding, build it in a visual no-code app builder and keep the first version to three things: a form that saves a dated entry, a list of earlier entries, and access rules that stop one user from reading another user’s writing. Decide early whether people will open the app through a web link or install it from the Apple App Store or Google Play, because that choice sets your publishing steps and can affect which plan you need.
Adalo and Bubble are the two builders covered here. Adalo’s documentation describes visual, database-driven app building and publishing to web, iOS, and Android. Bubble’s feature page describes mobile features and database privacy rules. These are vendor descriptions, not independent tests, and neither platform is established as the best choice for a journal app.
Scope the first version
A journal app becomes hard to finish when it tries to do everything at once. A first version that works every day needs only the following:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- An entry form. One multi-line text field for the writing, plus a save button.
- A date on every entry. Set it automatically to the day the entry is saved, so readers can find entries by day.
- An entry history. A screen that lists only the signed-in user’s entries, newest first, and opens each one.
- Account-level access rules. Each entry belongs to one user, and only that user can read or change it.
Mood tags, daily prompts, and reminders are reasonable additions later, but they are product-design choices. Neither source confirms that either builder offers them as ready-made features, so check each builder’s current feature list before you plan around them.

Choose the app layout
Adalo’s guide says you can create a responsive app that works on mobile, tablet, and desktop, or a mobile-only app. The choice should follow where people will write. A journal is usually a phone-first habit, so a mobile-only layout keeps the screens simpler. If you expect people to write at a desk as well, a responsive layout is the better fit. Changing this later can mean rebuilding screens, so decide before you lay anything out.

Plan tiers and feature lists change, so confirm current details on each vendor’s pricing and help pages before you commit. A journal app does not need in-app purchases, so that row matters only if you plan to sell something inside the app.
Build the entry data and screens
Both builders store app content in a database, so the core of the app is one data type for journal entries. The exact menu names differ by builder and change over time, so follow the labels in the editor you are using. The steps below describe the general pattern.
Rank #3
- FEEL HAPPIER & LESS STRESSED in just 5 minutes a day. Overthinking or stuck in negative thought loops? This gratitude journal for women and men breaks the cycle - helping you feel more present, calm, and grounded starting with just one page a day.
- BUILD A POSITIVE MINDSET with science-backed journaling. This daily gratitude journal uses research-backed prompts to help you feel calmer, more focused, and inspired - turning gratitude into a sustainable daily habit for a more intentional life.
- GUIDED & BEGINNER FRIENDLY - no experience needed. Not sure where to start with journaling? Effortless prompts remove the guesswork, making this self care journal easy, rewarding, and simple to stick with every day.
- PREMIUM QUALITY you'll love using every day. Linen hardcover, sustainably sourced paper, and a timeless minimalist design - this wellness journal isn't just beautiful, it's built to last. Aesthetic, durable, and made for daily use.
- THOUGHTFUL GIFT that transforms lives. Perfect as a mental health journal or birthday, holiday, and self-care gift for women and men of all ages. Give something that creates real, lasting change - one page at a time.
- Create the entry data type. Add three fields: an owner (a link to the user who wrote the entry), a date, and a text field for the body.
- Build the entry form. Add a multi-line text input and a save button. Set the date field to today’s date by default, and set the owner field to the currently signed-in user when the entry is saved.
- Build the history screen. Add a repeating list that shows entries where the owner is the current user, sorted by date with the newest first.
- Build the entry detail screen. Open a selected entry to display its text, with an edit button that is visible only to the owner.
This sequence is a reasonable implementation pattern based on each builder’s database-driven features. It is not a tested journal-app recipe, so expect to adjust the details when you build.
Lock down who can read each entry
Journal entries are personal, so access rules matter more than any visual detail. Do not assume that a new app keeps entries private by default. Set rules for reading, creating, and editing, and test them.

- HABIT BUILDING: This therapy journal features repetitive worksheets featuring the same journal prompts designed to enhance your mental resilience against anxious thoughts (anti anxiety). With consistent use, this exercise will naturally integrate into your daily routine.

- Restrict reads to the owner. Each entry should be visible only to the user listed in its owner field.
- Restrict edits and the owner field. Other users should not be able to change an entry’s text, date, or owner.
- Test with two accounts. Save an entry while signed in as Account A. Sign in as Account B and try to find it in the history list, open it directly, and edit it. Account B should see nothing.
- Confirm how your builder enforces this. Bubble documents database privacy rules for reading, creating, and modifying records. The Adalo pages reviewed do not describe the same settings, so check Adalo’s current data documentation before you rely on its access controls.
Turning on a privacy feature does not make the app secure by itself. The rules you write, and the tests you run against them, determine what other users can see.

Test the everyday path
Before you share the app, run through the actions a daily user will repeat:
Best Value
- Create an entry on the device size you expect people to use.
- Save it, close the app, reopen it, and confirm the entry is still there.
- Edit an older entry and confirm the change is saved.
- Find an entry from a previous day in the history list.
- Open the history screen when there are no entries, and check that the empty screen makes sense.
- Save a very long entry and confirm the text displays and scrolls.
- Sign out, sign in with a different account, and confirm the first account’s entries do not appear.
These are recommended checks. They are not results from a test of either builder.
Publish as a web link or a native app
Web link
Adalo’s publishing guide describes a public web URL for an app. A web link is the simplest route for a first version because it avoids app-store submission. Check whether your chosen domain setup requires a paid plan tier, since Adalo’s guide lists custom-domain publishing as one of the paid features.
Native iOS and Android apps
Adalo’s documentation describes native Android and iOS build outputs, and Bubble’s feature page describes app-store publishing and mobile features. For Adalo, the publishing guide states that app-store publishing requires a paid plan tier. Store review outcomes were not established in the sources reviewed, so plan extra time for submission and for any changes the store asks for.

Plan check before you publish
Choose your publishing route first, then confirm the current plan tier on the vendor’s pricing or help page. Costs were not established in the sources reviewed, so do not budget from this article alone.
What this guide does not establish
- Costs and plan prices. Only the need for a paid tier for certain features is described.
- Data retention, backups, and export. The sources do not describe how long entries are kept or how users can export them.
- Encryption. No encryption details were confirmed for either builder.
- App-store review. Approval times and rejection rules were not established.
Before you store private writing in any builder, ask the vendor these questions directly and read its current terms. The guide reflects current official Adalo and Bubble product and help pages. No app was built or tested to produce it, and platform features and plan rules change.
