To run cooking videos as a continuous YouTube live stream, prepare a playlist of videos you have permission to broadcast, create a stream in YouTube Studio, and send the playlist to it through an encoder. You can run an encoder such as OBS on a computer you leave on, use dedicated hardware, or upload the videos to a cloud service that streams them for you. Test the audio, transitions, and stream health before relying on the feed.

What a continuous cooking-video stream is

YouTube receives a live feed from an encoder. The video may be prerecorded, but the encoder sends it as a live broadcast. The encoder can play files in sequence from a local computer, dedicated hardware, or a cloud service. A continuous feed does not guarantee more views, discovery, or monetization.

Choose how to keep the stream running

Approach Best for Main trade-off
StreamNeo, a cloud service Creators who want uploaded videos to loop on YouTube without leaving a computer running. Uses a paid slot after the one free day; check service terms and fit before committing.
Local encoder such as OBS Creators who need scenes, overlays, camera or microphone inputs, and direct control. The computer, power, network, and upload connection must stay available for the broadcast.
Dedicated hardware such as AJA HELO Plus Creators who want a standalone encoder; AJA’s PlayToStream function supports scheduled prerecorded media. Specialized equipment may be more than a pre-recorded playlist needs.
Other cloud services, including Upstream or Gyre Creators who want prerecorded videos to continue streaming without an encoding computer at home. Check each provider’s current features, reliability, pricing, and partner-program status; YouTube lists these vendors in its verified-encoder documentation.

Check eligibility and prepare the videos

Confirm the channel can go live

YouTube’s current Help guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. The minimum age for livestreaming is 16. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before your planned launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance and eligibility and restrictions.

Make a broadcast-ready playlist

  • Use cooking videos and music that you own or have permission to broadcast. Check rights for every clip, soundtrack, and other included material.
  • Arrange the videos in the intended order. Where practical, keep resolution, aspect ratio, frame rate, and audio format consistent.
  • Inspect each file for missing audio, unwanted blank sections, abrupt endings, or content that should not be broadcast continuously.
  • During the first complete playlist cycle, check every transition and confirm that audio and video continue as expected. These file and transition checks are practical workflow guidance, not a YouTube guarantee.

Create and start the YouTube live stream

  1. Open Live Control Room: In YouTube Studio, select Create, then Go Live. Create a stream or schedule one in Live Control Room.
  2. Set up the stream: Add an accurate title, description, audience setting, and thumbnail. Make sure the presentation describes a prerecorded cooking-video feed rather than implying that a live camera is showing a current cooking session.
  3. Copy the connection details: In YouTube’s stream settings, copy the stream URL and private stream key into your encoder. Keep the key confidential: someone who obtains it may be able to broadcast to your channel.
  4. Set the encoder: Choose resolution, frame rate, and bitrate that match the source and your sustained upload capacity. Follow YouTube’s current encoder settings guidance; it recommends a 2-second keyframe frequency and RTMPS, YouTube’s secure extension of RTMP, where supported.
  5. Start sending the feed: Start the encoder and check Live Control Room for incoming video and audio. For a scheduled stream, wait for the preview and select Go live when ready.
  6. Test and monitor: Before a full broadcast, test with representative movement and audio, check stream health, and watch the first transitions. Monitor stream health during the broadcast as well.

See YouTube’s encoder settings guidance for current technical recommendations. YouTube says, “All content in live streams must adhere to our Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.”

Run it locally with OBS

A local encoder is useful when you want scene changes, overlays, or live inputs alongside the cooking videos. Its key limitation for a continuous stream is operational: the encoding computer and its internet connection need to remain on and stable.

  1. Install and open OBS on the computer that will stay running.
  2. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule the stream as described above, then copy the stream URL and private stream key.
  3. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service if available, and enter the stream key. If using a custom connection, enter YouTube’s stream URL and key in the appropriate fields.
  4. Add the cooking videos as media sources and arrange them in the intended playlist order. Configure the sources to advance or loop as needed, and check that each file transitions correctly.
  5. Under Settings > Output and Video, set bitrate, resolution, and frame rate to match YouTube’s current recommendations and your connection. Set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds where the encoder exposes that setting.
  6. Start streaming in OBS. Confirm the preview and stream health in Live Control Room; for a scheduled broadcast, select Go live there after the preview appears.
  7. Leave the computer powered, OBS running, and network connected. Prevent sleep or automatic shutdown, and monitor the feed and playlist transitions.

Plan for stream length and archives

YouTube Help says live streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. If having an automatic archive matters, plan shorter sessions and end and restart the broadcast rather than relying on a longer continuous stream to create one complete recording. Check current platform behavior before depending on an archive.

Copyright, policy, and monetization

Only broadcast content the channel is authorized to use, including music and any footage embedded in a cooking video. All stream content must follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. Monetization depends on YouTube Partner Program eligibility, and a continuous prerecorded stream is not by itself evidence that a channel or stream meets monetization or policy conditions. Review YouTube’s live-stream eligibility and policy guidance before going live.

Troubleshoot common problems

  • You cannot start a live stream: Check channel verification, age eligibility, and whether the channel has live-streaming restrictions within the 90-day eligibility lookback. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours.
  • YouTube does not receive a signal: Confirm the encoder is running, the stream URL and key are correct, and the computer or device has internet access. If you suspect the key has been exposed, replace it in YouTube and update the encoder.
  • Video arrives but audio is missing: Check the source file’s audio, the encoder’s audio input or track selection, and the Live Control Room preview before launch.
  • The stream drops or becomes unhealthy: Check the local upload connection, encoder status, and selected bitrate. Use settings your connection can sustain, then test again with representative video and audio.
  • Transitions show gaps or stop the playlist: Inspect the source order and file endings, then observe a full playlist cycle. Correct the affected file or playlist behavior before leaving the feed unattended.
  • The archive is incomplete or absent: YouTube’s automatic archiving guidance applies to streams under 12 hours. For longer broadcasts, do not assume one complete archive will be available.
