You can run a 24/7 reggae radio stream on YouTube by sending a prepared audio playlist and visual output through a live-stream encoder. For a do-it-yourself setup, YouTube Live Control Room supplies the stream details, an encoder such as OBS sends the program, and the computer, power and internet connection must remain available. Before assembling the playlist, confirm that you have the rights to stream every track: YouTube scans live broadcasts for third-party content and may interrupt or terminate a stream, even when you have a license if the rights owner has not allowlisted your channel.
Before you start: check channel eligibility and music rights
Confirm the channel can go live
YouTube’s live-stream help says a channel must be verified and have had no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days to enable live streaming. Streamers must be at least 16 years old. Check the channel’s status before planning a launch; eligibility is a prerequisite, not something an encoder can resolve. YouTube: Get started with live streaming.
Clear every track for live use
Do not assume that buying, downloading or adding a recording to a playlist gives you permission to broadcast it. Confirm that you have permission for the intended live use of every track, including any music used in the visual portion of the stream. YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. If it identifies a match, it may replace the video with a placeholder and warn you; if the content continues, it may temporarily interrupt or terminate the stream. YouTube also cautions that licensed third-party content can still be interrupted if the rights owner has not allowlisted the channel through Content ID. YouTube for Artists likewise advises creators planning to use copyright-protected music to coordinate with their label or distributor. Choose how to keep the stream running
Self-host with an encoder
YouTube’s encoder-based workflow suits a continuous audio-radio program because the encoder sends a prepared audio-and-video feed to YouTube. In a local setup, that means leaving the host computer, encoder, power and internet connection available for as long as the stream is meant to run. A restart plan and monitoring are sensible operational precautions, but the available guidance does not establish a particular OBS playlist configuration or guarantee uninterrupted operation.
Use a cloud service instead

Set up the do-it-yourself encoder stream
1. Prepare the audio playlist and visual output
Assemble only tracks cleared for live streaming. Decide what viewers should see while the audio plays, such as a static artwork image or a visual layout you have rights to use. The encoder must send both the playlist audio and a video output to YouTube. The exact method for making OBS or another encoder advance through audio files depends on the software and its current features; the cited YouTube guidance does not specify a playlist-source setup. Verify the chosen software’s instructions rather than assuming a particular playlist option or automatic-restart feature.

2. Create the live stream in YouTube Studio

Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to enter Live Control Room.

Set up the stream and select the encoder-based workflow. Use the stream details and ingestion settings presented in Live Control Room.

Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the selected protocol into the matching fields in your encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with people who should not be able to send video to your channel.

YouTube describes encoder streaming as a way to send a program that can include overlays and hardware. The exact labels and controls in Studio can change, so follow the current Live Control Room prompts for the channel and stream you are configuring. YouTube’s live-stream setup help.
3. Configure the encoder and verify the feed
In OBS or another encoder, select the matching YouTube protocol and enter the stream URL and key. Add the audio playlist source and a video source, then confirm that the audio is audible and the visual output is present before starting the broadcast. YouTube identifies OBS among encoders that support HLS output, but playlist automation and exact source settings vary by encoder. The guidance here does not establish a specific OBS playlist recipe, minimum computer specification, or tested 24/7 restart arrangement.
For a self-hosted stream, keep the computer powered, the encoder running and the network connection available. A brief connection loss or software exit can stop the feed; arrange a way to notice interruptions and restart the encoder, and verify how the chosen software handles playlist completion and recovery. Do not assume that a local setup automatically restarts or loops without confirming its configuration.

HLS settings apply only if you choose HLS
HLS is one YouTube ingestion option, not a requirement for every encoder stream. If you select HLS in Live Control Room, use the HTTPS stream URL it provides and an HLS-capable encoder. YouTube’s HLS guidance specifies these transport requirements:

Send segments using HTTPS POST/PUT, with no encryption beyond HTTPS.

For stereo audio, YouTube recommends a 44.1 kHz sample rate and 128 Kbps bitrate.
These are HLS-specific requirements and recommendations; do not apply them as universal settings for all YouTube encoder streams. YouTube notes that HLS has higher latency than RTMP. Its developer documentation describes HLS ingestion as media playlists and segments sent to YouTube’s endpoint; that implementation-level detail is mainly useful to encoder vendors or people configuring an encoder without a YouTube HLS preset. Keep a 24/7 stream manageable
Plan for continuity, not just launch
A 24/7 stream depends on the whole chain staying available: playlist playback, the encoder, the host device, power, network access and YouTube’s live ingest. Check the broadcast after launch and periodically afterward. Decide who will notice a dropped feed and what they will do to restart it. No specific computer model or minimum hardware specification is established by YouTube’s cited guidance, so choose a machine based on the encoder and media you actually use rather than relying on an unsupported minimum.
Think through music and channel maintenance
Keep records of permissions and any rights-owner allowlisting confirmation. If you replace or expand the playlist, clear the new tracks too. A stream that once passed a Content ID check is not proof that every later track is cleared or that future broadcasts will avoid interruption.
