You can run a continuous rain-and-piano channel on YouTube Live by preparing rights-cleared audio and visuals, choosing a local encoder or cloud service, and sending a looping prerecorded program to YouTube. Before building the stream, decide how you will recover from interruptions and preserve recordings: a 24/7 broadcast is not guaranteed to become one complete YouTube replay.
1. Clear the rights to your audio and visuals
Make sure you have permission to livestream and archive every part of the program: piano music, rain ambience, and visuals. YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility on the streamer to hold the necessary worldwide rights on Google services, including music rights from artists, labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. Read YouTube’s livestream terms.
- Use your own piano performance and rain recording, or material whose license explicitly permits YouTube livestreaming and any resulting archive.
- Check both the composition and the specific recording: permission for one does not necessarily cover the other.
- Check the license scope, including territory, platform, monetization, and whether recording or archiving is allowed. A credit or a “royalty-free” label alone does not establish that all necessary rights are covered.
- Apply the same checks to images, animations, and video used as the stream’s visual layer.
If the rights are unclear, resolve that before going live. A stream can be interrupted or subject to claims if the material is not properly cleared.

YouTube supports software and hardware encoders as well as cloud streaming services. An encoder packages the audio and video and sends the live feed to YouTube. YouTube lists OBS as free, open-source streaming software, and also lists third-party hardware and cloud options; the listings are options to evaluate, not endorsements or guarantees. See YouTube’s encoder options.

| Approach | What it means for a continuous channel | What to plan for |
|---|---|---|
| Local encoder | Your computer runs the playback and sends the stream. | The computer, power, internet connection, and streaming process must keep working. Plan how to detect and recover from a local or network failure. |
| Cloud service | A service provider runs the stream from its infrastructure. | You depend on the provider, its account and workflow, and any fees or service limits. Compare those details directly; YouTube’s guidance does not establish a universal best option. |
For either route, prepare a playlist or other repeatable program before creating the live event. Test the full chain—from the source material to the YouTube watch page—rather than assuming a successful encoder connection means viewers can hear and see everything correctly.
3. Enable livestreaming and create the YouTube event
- Check channel eligibility. Your channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. Enabling livestreaming for the first time may take up to 24 hours. Review YouTube’s live-streaming setup requirements.
- Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and retrieve the stream URL and stream key shown for the event.
- Protect the stream key. YouTube describes the key as working like a password and address that let an encoder send a feed. Do not share it publicly; if someone else obtains it, they may be able to send a stream to your event.
- Connect your encoder. Enter the YouTube stream destination and key in the encoder, select your prepared audiovisual source, and start the encoder feed.
- Check the preview before going live. Confirm that YouTube receives the intended video and audio, then start the broadcast when the preview is ready.

4. Test the stream and leave network headroom
Set up the encoder ahead of time and test on the actual channel and device types your viewers may use. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend leaving 20% of upload bandwidth as headroom above the stream bitrate. If you send both a primary and backup stream, budget for both feeds. This is a planning recommendation, not a guarantee that a particular connection will remain stable. Read YouTube’s live-streaming tips.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Preview the event and listen for missing, distorted, or unexpectedly quiet audio.
- Check the watch page and mobile playback, not just the encoder’s local preview.
- Monitor the stream’s audio and video after it starts.
- Use a reliable internet connection and account for upload capacity beyond the nominal stream bitrate.
5. Plan for interruptions and YouTube archives
Keep the live program recoverable
A continuous channel needs an interruption plan. Decide who or what will notice a disconnected feed, how the source will resume, and whether there is a backup encoder or network path. If you configure primary and backup encoders, test failover by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its network, then confirm that playback switches as intended. Without a backup path, there is no automatic failover merely because the channel is intended to run 24/7. YouTube’s reliability tips cover testing a backup stream.

Do not rely on one 24/7 replay as your archive
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube recommends keeping a local recording as a backup. If a complete replay matters, record locally and consider a session plan that fits YouTube’s archive behavior instead of assuming one nonstop broadcast will produce a full VOD. Read YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.

If you want to monetize the channel, make it recognizably original and useful to viewers rather than a generic loop with little meaningful distinction. YouTube’s channel monetization policy says content should be original and authentic and “should not be mass-produced, generic, repetitive, or manipulative.” A curated program, original performances, thoughtful sound design, and original visual treatment can help give the channel a distinct identity, but none guarantees monetization approval. Review YouTube’s channel monetization policies.

Eligible monetized livestreams may use pre-roll, display, and mid-roll ads, but an ad is not guaranteed to run for every viewer. YouTube recommends automatic live mid-rolls, which may run at natural breakpoints. YouTube reported that creators who chose automatic live mid-rolls saw an average uplift of over 20% in instream ad revenue per hour compared with channels that had not, averaged across 207 countries in January 2024. That platform-reported comparison is not a forecast for an individual channel. See YouTube’s live ad options.
