To run recorded classical music as a 24/7 YouTube live stream in India, first secure permission for both the recordings and the underlying compositions, then use an encoder or hosted playback-and-encoding service to send a continuous feed to YouTube. YouTube does not guarantee that a single stream running longer than 12 hours will be automatically archived, and copyright detection can interrupt even a stream using licensed music. Build those limits into your plan before you go live.
1. Clear the music rights before making a playlist
Permission to play a recording online is not necessarily permission to use every part of it in a continuous YouTube livestream. For each track, identify the owner or controller of the sound recording and the rights holders for the underlying musical and literary work. Also check for other included material, such as a spoken introduction or an image used in the broadcast.
- Confirm who controls each recording and composition, and which territories the permission covers.
- Ask for permission that explicitly covers continuous YouTube livestreaming. If you plan to retain or publish an archive, confirm that the permission also covers the archived copy.
- Check whether the relevant rightsholder must allowlist your YouTube channel so its rights-management systems do not interrupt the stream.
- Keep written permissions and a track-by-track record of the rights holder, territories, permitted use, and any conditions.
YouTube’s livestream terms make the provider responsible for obtaining the necessary rights for use of live content, including music licensing rights from artists, labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. That responsibility is not discharged simply by using an encoder or by uploading music that is available elsewhere.
What IPRS and PPL India do—and do not establish
IPRS describes licensing for musical and literary works within its repertoire, while PPL India’s materials cover recorded music within its repertoire and include online streaming among digital uses. These are different rights and repertories; neither organization should be assumed to control every composition or recording in your playlist or to provide every permission needed for this particular use. Verify the rights for the actual tracks with the relevant owners. If you are unsure how Indian licensing rules apply to your proposed broadcast, seek qualified India-specific legal advice.

Do not assume section 31D settles the question
The Copyright Office’s Chapter VIII page describes notice and royalty procedures associated with section 31D broadcasting. That description does not establish that section 31D automatically applies to an individual creator’s YouTube livestream of prerecorded classical music. Do not rely on it as a blanket clearance for the playlist.
2. Check that your YouTube channel can go live
- Verify the YouTube channel if it is not already verified.
- Check that the channel has not had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube lists this as part of live-stream eligibility.
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream.
- Choose the encoder route, then copy the stream URL and stream key from YouTube into your selected encoder. Treat the key as a secret: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream.
- Configure the encoder to send the intended audio and visual feed, start sending it, and check the Live Control Room preview and watch page before relying on the broadcast.
YouTube identifies software encoders and professional-grade hardware encoders as possible ways to send a stream. The appropriate choice depends on your playback and encoding workload. The cited YouTube guidance does not specify a minimum computer configuration for an audio-led 24/7 stream, so test the complete setup rather than assuming a particular computer or encoder can run continuously.
3. Build a continuous playback and recovery setup
An encoder sends the feed; it does not by itself create a dependable nonstop music service. Your playback arrangement must keep supplying the selected recordings, and your encoding and internet arrangement must keep sending the feed. YouTube’s documented encoder workflow does not establish a native function that perpetually rebroadcasts a prerecorded playlist or guarantee uninterrupted 24/7 operation.

Choose where playback and encoding will run
- Local computer: A computer runs playlist playback and encoding. It must stay powered, connected, and able to recover from software, network, or power interruptions. A UPS may help with power interruptions, but the required capacity depends on the equipment and is not specified here.
- Hosted playback and encoding: A cloud service can keep the playlist and encoder running away from your home computer. Check that the service supports the YouTube workflow and recovery behavior you need, and that your music permissions cover the broadcast.
- Hardware encoder: A dedicated encoder is another possible sending method. It still needs a source feed, reliable power and internet, and an operational recovery plan.
There is no verified model, minimum specification, internet bandwidth target, or uptime figure established for this particular use case. Select hardware and settings for your actual files and encoder, then test them under the conditions in which the stream will run.
Set up the media and encoder deliberately
- Use only cleared recordings, and confirm the playlist order and transitions before starting.
- Configure the encoder’s audio, video, and output settings for the chosen feed. The sources cited here do not provide a bitrate, resolution, frame rate, or keyframe interval specifically recommended for an audio-led continuous stream; use the selected encoder’s current guidance and verify the result in YouTube’s preview rather than guessing at values.
- Use a visual component only if you have the rights to it as well. A static or changing visual does not change the music-clearance requirements.
- Decide how you will notice a stopped feed and restart playback or encoding. If the selected setup offers failover or recovery, test it before leaving the stream unattended.
4. Plan around YouTube’s archive limit and live copyright checks
Archives are not guaranteed for a stream over 12 hours
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its cited encoder guidance does not make that same promise for a stream longer than 12 hours. If an archive matters, do not assume a single multi-day broadcast will produce one. Plan an archive strategy around the documented limit and verify YouTube’s current behavior before depending on it.
Copyright detection can interrupt a licensed stream
YouTube says all live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content. If it detects material, YouTube may show a warning or placeholder, interrupt the broadcast, or terminate it. A Content ID claim may also be applied to an archived livestream after it ends. A license does not necessarily prevent an interruption if the relevant owner has not allowlisted the channel. Ask about allowlisting where applicable; it is a platform enforcement measure, not a substitute for permission.

Creator Music is not a route for this livestream
YouTube says Creator Music tracks may be used in long-form videos, not live streams or Shorts. Its help page describes availability for creators in the US who are in the YouTube Partner Program, with expansion beyond the US pending. It is not a documented licensing path for an India-based live music broadcast.
5. Test the full broadcast before leaving it running
- Schedule or create the encoder stream in YouTube Studio and confirm that the encoder has the correct stream URL and key.
- Start the encoder before the scheduled start time, then confirm that the Live Control Room receives the feed and displays the expected preview.
- Check the public watch page, including access from a mobile device, and listen for interruptions, silence, clipping, or unexpected playlist gaps.
- Test any available failover and recovery procedures. Confirm who or what will detect a stopped feed and how it will be restarted.
- If you intend to keep an archive, check its integrity and accessibility after a test broadcast before designing the ongoing schedule around it.
- Monitor audio and video quality and the stream status after launch. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring encoder streams; a 24/7 broadcast also needs a plan for ongoing checks.
Common problems and what to check
| Symptom | Likely check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not accept the live setup | Channel verification or a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days | Check eligibility in YouTube Studio and resolve the channel issue before troubleshooting the encoder. |
| The encoder is running but YouTube shows no feed | Stream URL or key copied incorrectly, or encoder output not started | Recheck the stream details in the Live Control Room, update the encoder, start sending, and verify the preview. |
| The stream is interrupted after music begins | Third-party content detection or an owner allowlisting issue | Review YouTube’s notice, contact the relevant rights holder, and confirm both permission and any required channel allowlisting. Do not assume a license alone prevents automated interruption. |
| The stream stops when left unattended | Playback, encoding, power, or internet interruption without a tested recovery path | Identify which part stopped, restore the feed, and test monitoring and recovery before restarting unattended operation. |
| No archive appears after a long broadcast | The stream exceeded YouTube’s documented under-12-hour automatic archive scope | Do not rely on automatic archiving for a longer stream; verify current YouTube behavior and use an archive plan that fits your rights and schedule. |
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is the #1 option here for keeping a prerecorded YouTube stream running: it loops uploaded videos from the cloud, at any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and the first day is free. The workflow is three steps:
- Upload your cleared recording or build a playlist.
- Add your YouTube stream key once.
- Go live; StreamNeo loops the playlist from the cloud, so no home computer or internet connection has to stay on.
Each slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB of storage per slot pooled across active slots, 24/7 looping and playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and support from the StreamNeo team. The same product is included on every plan; only the billing length changes. StreamNeo is for YouTube streams of uploaded videos, not a camera-based live broadcast. You remain responsible for music rights and YouTube’s copyright rules.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I run the broadcast from a phone?
The documented YouTube workflow here uses an encoder. A phone-based approach for this prerecorded, continuous setup is not established by the cited guidance.
Does permission to stream the music also guarantee that YouTube will keep the stream online?
No. Rights permission and YouTube’s automated enforcement are separate; an owner may also need to allowlist the channel.
