In OBS, loop one media file or a playlist, connect the encoder to a YouTube Live stream key, and keep the computer and internet connection running. Before you launch, clear the rights for every track and visual, test the stream, and plan for interruptions and archiving.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled. First-time enablement may take up to 24 hours, so check access well before launch. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains the live workflow.
- An encoder, such as OBS Studio, running on a computer, or a hosted encoder. YouTube lists OBS as open-source streaming software with no software charge, and also documents hardware and cloud encoder options.
- Prerecorded audio or video files, plus visuals you have permission to broadcast.
- A stable upload connection appropriate for your chosen resolution and frame rate.
- Permission to use every track and visual in a YouTube live stream. A license alone may not prevent a Content ID interruption; some rights holders must also allowlist your channel.
Streaming prerecorded tracks is not the same as playing them live yourself: the encoder sends the files as a continuous feed, which YouTube receives as a live broadcast.
Clear music and visual rights first
Do not assume that a track is safe to stream because you bought it, can play it privately, or have permission to use it in another format. Confirm that the rights cover live streaming on YouTube and the territories where the stream will be available. Check the rights for artwork, video loops, and other visuals as well as the music.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects protected content, it may replace the picture with a placeholder, interrupt the stream, or terminate it. If a label or distributor administers a track through Content ID, ask whether your channel must be added to its allowlist before going live. YouTube for Artists advises creators using copyright-protected music to coordinate with the label or distributor to avoid problems such as copyright strikes: YouTube for Artists.

Build and launch the stream with OBS
- Enable live access: In YouTube Studio, verify that the channel can start a live stream. If this is the first time you enable live streaming, allow up to 24 hours for access to become available.
- Prepare your media: Put the rights-cleared tracks and visuals into the files or playlist you intend to use. Decide how the sequence should repeat and check that the audio levels are consistent enough for an uninterrupted radio-style presentation.
- Add a looping source in OBS: Add a Media Source and turn on Loop to repeat one audio or video file. To rotate through multiple files, create a playlist in a VLC Video source and enable Loop Playlist. VLC must be installed for the VLC Video source to work. OBS supports common audio and video formats; check the source settings if a file does not play.
- Create the YouTube live stream: In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream using the encoder workflow. Copy its stream URL and stream key into OBS’s streaming settings. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it, show it on screen, or share it with people who should not control the stream.
- Choose the output quality: Set resolution, frame rate, and bitrate in OBS based on the media and the upload capacity of the connection that will carry the stream. There is no single bitrate that is right for every resolution, frame rate, and connection. YouTube recommends RTMPS, testing before going live, and monitoring stream health. Use YouTube’s current guidance for encoder settings rather than guessing at a universal value: YouTube encoder settings and bitrates.
- Test before launch: Start a private or otherwise non-public test when possible. Confirm that the video or audio source loops, sound is present and not distorted, YouTube receives the feed, and the connection remains healthy. Then start the scheduled or public broadcast.
- Monitor and maintain: Check the encoder and YouTube stream health during operation. Plan who will respond if the computer, internet connection, encoder, or YouTube feed stops; a local OBS stream depends on the computer and its connection staying available.
Plan for 24-hour continuity and replays
A 24/7 broadcast needs a continuity plan, not just a looping playlist. Decide what you will do if OBS closes, the computer restarts, power or internet drops, or YouTube interrupts the feed. The encoder needs to be restarted and the stream reconnected when a local setup fails; a brief interruption can split a broadcast into separate sessions.
YouTube states that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not rely on that statement to promise a complete replay of a continuous 24-hour stream. For the local route, OBS itself is listed as no-charge software, but an always-on computer, power, and internet service still have costs. A particular low-cost computer cannot be assumed to handle a chosen resolution or scene; OBS performance depends on the system and settings. YouTube also lists standalone and cloud encoders, so buying a dedicated computer is not a requirement for every setup.
YouTube says eligible Partner Program creators can monetize live streams, but using a 24/7 format does not guarantee eligibility or earnings. The published live-stream copyright and monetization guidance does not establish that looping prerecorded tracks will qualify for monetization. Do not base a revenue forecast on stream duration alone.

YouTube for Artists reported that over 30% of daily logged-in YouTube viewers watched live content in Q2 2025. That is a platform-wide figure, not a measure of deep house demand or a forecast for a particular channel.

Troubleshoot common problems
- Live streaming is unavailable: If the channel has never streamed before, first-time enablement may take up to 24 hours. Confirm live access in YouTube Studio before the planned start time.
- The source stops instead of repeating: Check that Loop is enabled on the OBS Media Source, or Loop Playlist is enabled for the VLC Video playlist. Confirm VLC is installed if you use that source.
- YouTube is not receiving the encoder: Check that OBS has the correct YouTube stream URL and current stream key, that the stream has been created in YouTube Studio, and that the connection is active. If you exposed the key, replace it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
- The stream drops or looks unstable: Check YouTube stream health and the actual upload connection. Reduce output demands or choose a more reliable quality setting if the connection cannot sustain the current resolution, frame rate, and bitrate. Test changes before relaunching.
- The picture is replaced or the stream is interrupted: A Content ID match may have triggered YouTube’s live copyright handling. Contact the relevant label or distributor about live-stream permission and channel allowlisting; a license by itself may not avoid interruption.
- A complete 24-hour replay is missing: YouTube’s automatic archive statement covers streams under 12 hours. Use a separate recording and archive plan for longer operations rather than assuming one 24-hour stream will produce a complete replay.
