You can use FFmpeg to loop a playlist of Kannada film-song videos and send it to YouTube Live, but rights clearance comes first: FFmpeg cannot grant permission to broadcast the songs. Before you go live, confirm that your permissions cover each recording, continuous live transmission in the territories you intend to reach, and any stream archive. You may also need the rights owner to allowlist your channel in Content ID.
A reliable 24/7 stream is an operating setup—not a single FFmpeg command. It requires compatible media, YouTube’s current ingest details and encoder settings, testing, process monitoring, and a plan for interruptions and event sessions.
Can I stream Kannada film songs if I have permission?
Only if your permission covers the specific recordings and the way you plan to use them. YouTube’s livestream terms require the necessary rights for live content, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. Permission can depend on the song, recording, territory, term, and use.

Buying a music file, finding it online, crediting the artists, or running a non-commercial stream does not by itself establish that you have the rights to broadcast it. Ask the relevant rights holders or their authorized representatives for written permission that explicitly covers continuous live streaming and, if you want a retained replay, archive use. Check Content ID allowlisting before launch
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A match can prompt a warning, replace your stream with a placeholder, or interrupt or terminate the broadcast. YouTube also says a stream can be interrupted even when it is licensed if the channel has not been added to the rights owner’s Content ID allowlist. If a rights owner uses Content ID, ask them to confirm that your channel is allowlisted before you start.
Prepare a rights-cleared, FFmpeg-readable playlist
Keep a track-level permission record
For every song and recording, record the rights holder, territories, permission term, live-streaming permission, archive permission, and where the written authorization is stored. A playlist is only as cleared as its least-cleared track. If a track’s rights or allowed territories are unclear, leave it out until you have confirmation.
Check and test your media files
Make sure the installed FFmpeg build can read every file and that playlist entries point to the intended files. The FFmpeg concat demuxer can join compatible inputs, but compatibility depends on the media’s stream layout and timestamps. Files with different codecs, dimensions, frame rates, or audio layouts may need to be normalized or transcoded first. Test the actual sequence: do not assume transitions will be gapless.

How do I loop a playlist in FFmpeg?
One approach is to create a concat-demuxer list and loop that input with FFmpeg’s -stream_loop option. The following is a configurable starting point for a compatible playlist—not a tested, universal production command. Test it with your own files and installed FFmpeg build before using it for a public stream.

1. Create the playlist file
Save a text file such as playlist.txt with one entry per media file:

file '/absolute/path/to/song-03.mp4'Use actual paths on the streaming machine. If a path contains a single quote, escape it correctly for the concat-demuxer file syntax, or use a simpler path. Do not add a duration unless you specifically need one and have verified how the demuxer will handle it.
2. Set the output values from YouTube’s current settings
Choose a resolution, frame rate, and video bitrate that match YouTube’s current recommendations for your output resolution and the stable upload bandwidth available on the machine. YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval; the exact bitrate is not universal. Define these shell variables with values selected from YouTube’s current encoder-settings guidance:

YOUTUBE_OUTPUT_URL='set-this-to-the-current-RTMPS-output-address-and-key'These strings are instructions, not literal values to stream with. In particular, replace the output variable with the complete destination format required by the current Live Control Room instructions and your FFmpeg build. Keep the stream key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to broadcast to your event. Reset it if it is exposed.
3. Start a test feed
For compatible inputs with both video and audio, a command in this form illustrates the relevant FFmpeg options. Confirm the output URL format and codec support for your installed build before relying on it:

Confirm all encoder parameters against the current YouTube guidance for your chosen resolution and frame rate; do not treat the example’s codec or preset choices as a guarantee of compatibility. If the playlist inputs do not share compatible streams, the concat approach may fail or produce bad transitions. Normalize and test them rather than assuming the command will fix mismatches.

Create an event and retrieve the current destination
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room. Create or schedule the stream using the current controls shown for your channel.
- Retrieve the stream URL and stream key shown for that event. Use the current ingest details rather than a stale address or key copied from an earlier setup.
- Prefer RTMPS where your encoder supports it. YouTube recommends RTMPS, an encrypted extension to RTMP, and says to obtain the secure URL in Live Control Room. Follow the current UI’s instructions for how to combine or enter the URL and key.
- Keep the key secret. Do not put it in a public playlist, screenshot, or script repository. Limit access to the machine and environment where the encoder runs; reset the key if it is compromised.
Match video, audio, and network settings to the current guidance
YouTube publishes supported ingest settings, codecs, bitrates, and resolutions. Select values from its current table for the resolution and frame rate you intend to stream; ensure the connection has stable upload capacity for the chosen bitrate, with room for network variation. Use CBR and a two-second keyframe interval as YouTube recommends. A number chosen for one resolution or connection should not be assumed suitable for another.
FFmpeg also needs to be able to encode the selected output. Verify that your build includes the encoder you specify, that the media has the expected audio and video streams, and that the output is accepted by YouTube before making the stream public.
Test the stream before making it a 24/7 operation
- Start with an unlisted or test feed. Send the actual playlist through the intended encoder and network setup.
- Check the Live Control Room preview. Confirm that video and audio appear and that YouTube reports healthy stream input.
- Check the watch page from another device. Verify that viewers can hear the audio and see the intended visuals, rather than relying only on the encoder’s local output.
- Watch several playlist transitions. Listen for silence, abrupt level changes, clipping, missing tracks, and unexpected gaps; inspect for black frames, frozen images, or unintended content.
- Test failure and recovery deliberately. Confirm what happens if the source file is unavailable, the network drops, the encoder exits, or YouTube stops accepting the feed. Verify that alerts reach someone who can respond.
YouTube recommends testing with a realistic stream and monitoring stream health. A short test can reveal setup errors, but it cannot prove that a long-running service will never fail.

Use supervision and alerts
FFmpeg’s FIFO muxer has options for trying to recover after output failures and waiting before retries. Such options can help with temporary output problems, but they do not make a stream self-sustaining: a server outage, power loss, exhausted disk, damaged source file, network failure, changed credentials, or YouTube interruption can still stop it. Use a process supervisor or an operator alerting system so that a failed process is noticed and can be restarted or investigated.

Test recovery with the exact FFmpeg build, files, network, and output path you intend to use. Confirm whether a restarted encoder can reconnect to the event, whether the key remains valid, and what the viewer sees during the interruption. Do not assume reconnect behavior without testing it.
Choose an event and archive plan deliberately
YouTube’s encoder setup guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That statement is not a guarantee that a single uninterrupted 24/7 event will be archived or handled indefinitely. Check current behavior and account limits in YouTube’s interface, and decide whether your operating model uses scheduled sessions, fresh events, or another platform-supported approach. Include archive needs in both your rights permissions and your session plan.
Common FFmpeg and YouTube Live problems
