You can run a 24/7 Japanese city pop stream on YouTube by clearing every track for worldwide livestream use, creating an encoder-based live event in YouTube Studio, and sending it a continuous audio-and-visual feed. The rights check comes first: owning a download, subscribing to a music service, or finding a song on YouTube does not by itself grant permission to rebroadcast it. YouTube also scans live streams for third-party content, and a match can interrupt or terminate a broadcast.
Before anything else, clear the music for livestreaming
Build a rights record for every recording in the rotation before making the playlist public. Confirm that permissions cover the sound recording and all other necessary rights, livestream exploitation, and the territories where the stream will be available. YouTube’s terms put the responsibility on the creator: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” Read the YouTube livestream terms; that platform requirement does not establish that any particular license is sufficient in a given territory.
- Record the track title, recording version, rights holder or licensor, permission scope, covered territories, and any conditions such as attribution or dates.
- Ask each relevant rights holder whether your YouTube channel must be allowlisted in Content ID before broadcasting. A license alone may not prevent an automated interruption if the channel has not been allowlisted.
- Do not treat public YouTube videos, purchased downloads, or a music-streaming subscription as permission to rebroadcast the tracks. YouTube says creators need the necessary rights for live content worldwide.
Check the YouTube guidance on copyright issues with live streams for how scanning and Content ID may affect a broadcast. An archive can also receive a Content ID claim after the live event.

Check channel eligibility and create the live event
YouTube lists channel verification and no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days as prerequisites for livestreaming. Review YouTube’s live streaming tips and the encoder setup guide before scheduling.

- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a live stream.
- Choose the event settings, such as title, visibility, and start time. Use an accurate title and description; do not imply that the recordings are licensed unless they are.
- Copy the event’s server URL and stream key into your encoder’s YouTube destination settings. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your channel. Do not publish it or include it in a screen recording.
- Configure the encoder’s audio source and visual loop, then check the Live Control Room preview and stream health before starting the broadcast.
- Start streaming from the encoder and confirm that the event is receiving the feed and playing correctly on YouTube.
Configure video, audio, and network settings
YouTube’s encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265, or AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; constant bitrate encoding; and a recommended two-second keyframe interval, with a maximum interval of four seconds. For the exact bitrate, use YouTube’s current table for the codec, resolution, and frame rate you choose rather than copying a value meant for a different format. - Resolution and frame rate: Match the output to the visual design and the capacity of your connection. A static or slowly changing radio visual does not need a high resolution simply to deliver good audio.
- Bitrate: Select the bitrate YouTube specifies for the selected resolution, codec, and frame rate. Keep the encoder on constant bitrate as recommended.
- Audio: Use AAC or MP3, and check that the encoder receives the intended playlist mix without clipping, silence, or unintended desktop sounds.
- Keyframes: Set a two-second interval where possible and do not exceed four seconds.
- Network capacity: YouTube advises keeping 20% upload-bandwidth headroom and accounting for both the primary and backup encoder bitrates. Run an upload test under conditions similar to the planned broadcast; see YouTube’s streaming tips.
Use a stable wired connection where practical, and monitor the Live Control Room’s stream health during a test. A bitrate that exceeds available upload capacity can cause buffering or unstable delivery even when the encoder settings otherwise match YouTube’s recommendations.

Make the stream continuous—and protect the recording
A 24/7 schedule is a reliability plan, not just a playlist setting. Test what happens when the primary encoder or its internet connection fails, and make sure the local recording continues to grow if preserving a master matters.

- Before launch, configure a backup encoder if you need failover. YouTube recommends testing it by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its Ethernet connection, then checking whether playback rolls over to the backup. The primary and backup bitrates both count toward the upload-capacity calculation.
- Enable local recording in the encoder and verify that the output file is being written and growing. YouTube recommends a local archive backup.
- Monitor the stream health and the local recording during operation. Check the YouTube event if the live feed drops or changes unexpectedly.
- Plan intentional restarts or shorter segments if YouTube replays matter. YouTube warns that a livestream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all; do not rely on one uninterrupted 24-hour event to create a complete replay. See YouTube’s archive guidance.
Troubleshoot common failures
