You can use OBS to send a continuous ghazal music stream to YouTube, but clear the rights to every recording, composition, lyric and visual before you configure the broadcast. A 24/7 setup also depends on a computer, power, internet connection and audio source staying available—and YouTube does not guarantee that a stream longer than 12 hours will be saved as a replay.
Clear the music and visuals before you stream
A ghazal track can involve separate rights in the sound recording and in the underlying musical work and lyrics. IPRS explains that its remit concerns musical and associated literary works, while sound-recording rights may be administered by recording owners; separate permissions may be needed. A track being available online, a purchase receipt, or one licence does not by itself establish that your intended YouTube use is covered. See IPRS’s licence guidance.
YouTube’s Live Stream Terms require the person providing the stream to have the rights needed for worldwide use on Google services, subject to applicable law and territory requirements. The terms specifically include music licensing rights from artists, record labels and publishers. Get written permission covering the actual recordings and uses you plan, rather than assuming a general licence covers a 24/7 YouTube channel. The IPRS INTB tariff is scoped to non-interactive internet music streaming services; it does not by itself establish that a particular YouTube channel or catalogue is covered.
Ask about each use explicitly
- Continuous live transmission on YouTube, and the territories in which it is permitted.
- Whether monetization is allowed and under what terms.
- Whether viewers may access an archived replay, if one is created.
- Required attribution and any limits on how tracks may be edited, combined or displayed.
- Whether the rights holder must allowlist your channel in Content ID, and how to request it.
Apply the same check to album art, photographs, looping footage, on-screen lyrics and any other visual material. Keep a track-by-track record of the recording owner, composition and lyric permissions, permitted territories, live and archive uses, monetization terms, attribution requirements and rights-holder contact. Until the specific catalogue and permissions are known, no one can establish that an unnamed ghazal playlist is cleared.

Licensing and YouTube enforcement are separate
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A licence does not necessarily prevent an interruption: a rights holder may need to allowlist your channel through its Content ID system. Coordinate with the owner, label or distributor before going live, and follow YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams. Permission to stream also does not guarantee monetization approval; review the rules that apply to your channel and do not assume that having a music licence settles every platform-policy question.
Prepare your YouTube channel and rehearse
- Enable live streaming early. YouTube for Artists advises first-time live streamers to verify the account and enable live streaming at least 24 hours before the planned broadcast. Check the current account prompts and complete any required setup well ahead of launch. See Going Live for Music Channels.
- Coordinate with music rights holders. Confirm written permissions and arrange any required Content ID allowlisting before the rehearsal. YouTube for Artists recommends coordinating with the label or distributor when using copyright-protected music.
- Create a private rehearsal. Start with an unlisted test stream. Check that it appears and plays for a viewer, the audio is clean and at a consistent level, the visual is correct, YouTube reports a healthy incoming signal, and the rights workflow is in place.
- Set an accurate title and description. Identify the stream clearly and include any attribution required by your permissions. Do not claim the music is licensed or rights-cleared unless that is accurate for the specific material and uses.
Build the music source and scene in OBS
For a music-led broadcast, OBS still needs a video picture to send along with the audio. A static image or gently moving visual can work if you have permission to use it. One straightforward workflow is to assemble your authorized tracks and permitted visual into a single continuous video file, then add that file to an OBS scene as a media source and enable looping. This avoids depending on a sequence of manually started tracks. If you use a different playlist workflow, rehearse it: the reviewed YouTube guidance does not prescribe an OBS playlist method.

- Prepare the source file. Use only recordings and artwork you are permitted to broadcast. Check the finished file from beginning to end for silence, abrupt level changes, accidental gaps, unwanted material and an ending that will disrupt the loop.
- Create a scene. Add the authorized media file as a source. Use a visual layout that remains legible on a phone as well as a desktop, and avoid artwork or lyrics you do not have permission to display.
- Check audio routing. Listen to the OBS program output and to the unlisted YouTube rehearsal. Confirm that the music is present, not clipping, and not doubled by a second desktop or microphone capture. Do not rebroadcast a consumer music service or an existing YouTube stream as a substitute for rights clearance.
- Test the loop. Observe the transition from the end back to the beginning. If it leaves a gap, repeats an unwanted frame or stops, revise the source or playback workflow before announcing a continuous broadcast.
Connect OBS to YouTube and choose encoder settings
Use the current YouTube Live Control Room prompts for the destination and stream key, then configure OBS to send to YouTube. Interface labels can change, so follow the options shown in your account rather than relying on an older screenshot or tutorial. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it or include it in a screen recording. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.

YouTube supports RTMP/RTMPS ingestion and documents supported encoder protocols, codecs and recommended settings in Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions. Its published guidance recommends CBR, a two-second keyframe interval (not more than four seconds), and automatic resolution and frame-rate detection by default. These settings are YouTube’s guidance, not a guarantee that every computer or connection can sustain them.

YouTube’s audio guidance lists 128 kbps for stereo. An audio-led ghazal stream does not need 4K video: choose a resolution and frame rate your computer and upload connection can maintain steadily. Leave headroom for network variation rather than choosing a bitrate that uses all available upstream capacity. Keep OBS and the YouTube Live Control Room open during rehearsal and confirm that the received stream remains healthy.

- Open OBS and load the rehearsed scene and source. Confirm the intended audio is playing and the stream destination and key are correct.
- Start streaming from OBS, then check YouTube Studio to confirm the incoming signal and public broadcast are live.
- Keep the sending computer, OBS, audio source, power and network running. Assign someone to respond to a dropped connection, rights notice, exhausted or stalled source, or a change in stream health.
- After any change to files, settings, network, or rights permissions, rehearse again before relying on the setup for a continuous channel.
A 24/7 local broadcast depends on every part of that chain. A capable computer, reliable power and upload connection, and a source that keeps playing are operational requirements; the reviewed YouTube guidance does not establish an official uptime guarantee or a guaranteed maximum runtime for an OBS computer. A UPS may help with a brief power interruption, but it will not fix an internet outage or a stopped source.

Plan separately for the replay
Do not count on YouTube to preserve one complete 24-hour replay. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured. It recommends keeping a local archive backup. See Archive live streams.

- Estimate storage from your chosen recording settings and duration; the required space varies with quality and encoding.
- If viewers need a reliable YouTube replay, plan separate broadcasts or recordings shorter than 12 hours instead of treating a single 24-hour stream as a dependable archive.
Choose between a local OBS setup and a cloud encoder
A local computer running OBS gives you control and may make sense if you already have suitable hardware and can keep its power, network and source available. A hosted encoder can avoid leaving a home computer on, but compare any service on its actual OBS or YouTube support, continuous operation, monitoring and recovery, cost, and how it handles rights notices. Verify the service’s current terms and capabilities before relying on it. Neither the encoder choice nor hosting resolves music rights or guarantees uninterrupted public playback.
