First confirm that your channel can go live, then connect an encoder to YouTube Studio with a stream key, configure the footage to repeat in your playback workflow, and test the whole setup. YouTube accepts encoder feeds, but its documented settings do not guarantee an infinite playlist loop or automatic recovery after an interruption.
What you need for a recorded aquarium stream
A live camera is not required: the encoder can send prerecorded video files as its feed. You do need a YouTube channel with live-stream access, an encoder that can play and send your recordings, a reliable internet connection with enough upload capacity, and permission to use all video and audio in the broadcast.
YouTube describes an encoder as software on a computer or standalone hardware that converts video into a digital format for streaming. Its encoder guidance explains the YouTube connection process, but does not specify which software or hardware can repeat a playlist indefinitely. Confirm that your chosen playback and encoder workflow supports the repeat behavior you want before relying on it.
Check that your channel can go live
- Verify your YouTube channel and check that it has no live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days. YouTube lists both as requirements for live streaming.
- If this is your first time enabling live streaming, allow up to 24 hours for activation. Check access before scheduling a launch.
- Review YouTube’s current requirements in Get started with live streaming.
Set up the stream in YouTube Studio
- In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live to open Live Control Room. Create or schedule a stream.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in Live Control Room.
- In your encoder, choose its YouTube or RTMP destination and enter the stream URL and key. The URL tells the encoder where to send the feed; the key lets YouTube accept it. Treat the key like a password: do not publish or share it.
- If you suspect the key has been exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder with the replacement key.

Configure recordings to repeat
Set the repeat behavior in the encoder or playback workflow—not by assuming that YouTube will loop the videos for you. The reviewed YouTube settings documentation describes stream controls such as DVR, auto-start, and auto-stop; it does not establish that YouTube will continuously loop a playlist or recover a feed after an outage.
- Build the playlist or playback sequence from recordings you have permission to broadcast.
- Set the playback workflow to repeat the sequence, if supported, and check how it handles the final clip, transitions, and audio between files.
- Test a complete pass through the playlist. Watch for gaps, black frames, unexpected stops, audio changes, and whether playback resumes correctly after restarting the encoder or network connection.
- Decide how you will notice a stopped or degraded stream and who will respond. Do not treat auto-start or auto-stop as a documented recovery guarantee.
Check the current options in Manage live stream settings. DVR lets viewers pause, rewind, and resume during a stream; it does not control whether your source playlist repeats.

Choose an encoder and allow enough upload bandwidth
YouTube supports encoder software on a computer and standalone hardware encoders. The right fit depends on your playback workflow, continuous power needs, budget, technical comfort, and how you will monitor or restart the stream. The YouTube guidance cited here does not rank specific products or establish their playlist, recovery, resolution, or bitrate capabilities, so check those details with the encoder maker before choosing.
Calculate bandwidth using the total bitrate you plan to send, including audio. YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom beyond the total stream bitrate; if you send a backup stream as well, include both primary and backup bitrates in the calculation. Preview, start, and monitor the broadcast
- Start the encoder and wait for the feed to appear in Live Control Room preview before taking the stream live.
- Check the watch page and channel page, and test playback on a mobile device as well as your usual screen.
- Listen for audio problems and inspect the picture for freezes, unexpected blank sections, or abrupt transitions. YouTube recommends monitoring audio and video continuously.
- For a long-running stream, arrange checks and an alert or other way to notice when the feed stops. Test your restart procedure before leaving the stream unattended.
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That does not establish that an indefinite 24/7 broadcast will be saved as one complete replay, so plan archive needs around the documented limit and verify current behavior before relying on a full recording.
Check rights before broadcasting aquarium footage
You are responsible for obtaining the rights needed for the video and audio you stream. YouTube’s livestream terms say providers represent and warrant that they have the necessary rights for worldwide exploitation of live content on Google services, including music licensing rights. Read the Livestream terms and conditions and confirm permission for every recording, soundtrack, and other third-party material in your playlist.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content and may interrupt or terminate a stream when it detects copyrighted material. If you have licensed third-party work, the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist; otherwise, the live stream can still be interrupted. Troubleshoot common problems
- Live streaming is unavailable: Check channel verification and whether a live-stream restriction applies. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours.
- YouTube does not receive the feed: Confirm the encoder is using the current stream URL and key, and that it is configured for the intended YouTube destination. If the key may be compromised, reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder.
- The stream stutters or drops: Compare the total outgoing bitrate with available upload bandwidth and restore the recommended 20% headroom. Include the backup bitrate too if sending a backup stream. Check the encoder and network, then test the restart procedure.
- The playlist stops or does not repeat: Check the playback workflow’s repeat setting and test the entire sequence, including the last clip and transitions. YouTube’s documented stream settings do not establish an automatic infinite loop.
- The picture or sound is wrong: Inspect the Live Control Room preview and the public watch page, then check the source files, encoder output, and audio transitions. Continue monitoring during the broadcast.
- The live stream is interrupted for copyright: Review the specific material in the feed and confirm that you have the necessary rights. For licensed third-party content, ask the rights owner about Content ID allowlisting for your channel.
- You cannot find one complete replay afterward: Do not assume an indefinite stream will archive as a single video. YouTube documents automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours.
