On a desktop, open the webpage, choose Print (usually Ctrl+P on Windows; Microsoft documents Command+P on macOS in Edge), select a PDF destination, check the preview, and save. In Microsoft Edge and Firefox, the built-in print workflow can create a PDF without a separate converter. If you want mostly text and less page clutter, try a reader or simplified-print mode when your browser offers one.
Choose the right way to make the PDF
The browser’s print dialog is the simplest place to start. It turns the page’s printable layout into a PDF file you can keep locally. The result may not look exactly like the webpage: pages can reflow, split across sheets, or omit elements that are not part of the print layout. Preview the result before saving.

These options are not interchangeable. Printing the whole page retains more of its surrounding context; a simplified view may be easier to read but can change what appears. Microsoft and Mozilla both advise checking the print preview because webpages may print differently from how they appear on screen.
Save a webpage as a PDF in Microsoft Edge
- Open the page. If you want only part of it, select the text or images first. Edge documents printing a selection through the right-click menu.
- Open Print. Press Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on macOS, select Print from the menu, or use the right-click context menu. The available route can depend on your system and browser environment.
- Choose a PDF destination. In the print dialog, select the PDF destination available on your system. Exact wording and location vary with the operating system and dialog.
- Review the preview. Check that the content you want is present, the page breaks are sensible, and nothing important is clipped.
- Adjust print settings if needed. Edge’s documented settings include scaling choices such as fit to printable area, actual size, and custom scaling. More settings can include headers and footers and background graphics. Controls depend on the system print dialog and browser environment.
- Save the PDF. Use the dialog’s save or print action for the selected PDF destination, then choose where to store the file if prompted.
Print only selected text or images
In Edge, select the text or images you need, right-click the selection, and choose Print. This is useful when the rest of the page is irrelevant, but check the preview: a selection-only PDF may lack a title, source context, or nearby information that helps explain the excerpt.

Make an Edge PDF less cluttered
On a supported page, Edge’s Immersive Reader can simplify the layout before you print. Microsoft says it removes distracting pop-ups and buttons while leaving important text and visual content; it may not be available for every website. Microsoft documents an address-bar control and F9 on supported Windows pages. After simplifying the page, open Print and choose the available PDF destination. Compare the preview with the original page if images, labels, or other visual details matter. Microsoft’s Immersive Reader instructions describe the feature and its availability.
Save a webpage as a PDF in Firefox
- Open the webpage and its print preview. Use the browser’s Print command; the exact menu placement may vary by version and operating system.
- Choose “Save to PDF.” Mozilla’s instructions identify this as an option in the print-preview destination dropdown.
- Set the page options you need. More settings can include paper size, scale, pages per sheet, margins, format, two-sided printing, headers and footers, and backgrounds. Not every control will be relevant to every PDF.
- Check the preview. Look for missing content, awkward page breaks, or text that has become too small.
- Select “Print” to create the PDF. Choose a file name and save location if the system prompts you.
Use Firefox’s Simplified format when it helps
Firefox offers Simplified under Format when the option is available. Mozilla notes that Simplified cannot be combined with print backgrounds. Use it when a cleaner text-first PDF matters more than the original design, then inspect the preview to confirm it kept the information you need. Set print options without making the PDF harder to read
Start with the default settings and change only what the preview shows you need. Print controls differ among browsers, operating systems, and system dialogs; a setting documented for one workflow may not appear in another.

Do not assume that a preview is a faithful capture of everything on screen. If a page contains material that matters only after interaction, or content that loads as you scroll, inspect the PDF carefully. The documented print workflows do not promise identical output for every website.

Make a cleaner PDF from long or busy pages
Try reader or simplified mode before changing print settings
A page designed for reading may offer a dedicated reading mode. Edge’s Immersive Reader and Firefox’s Simplified print format are documented examples, but their availability depends on the page and browser. Reader modes can reduce surrounding interface clutter; they can also change the layout. Check that headings, images, captions, and other context you need remain before saving.
Use selection printing only when the excerpt stands on its own
Edge’s selection workflow can avoid saving unrelated material. It is a poor fit if the passage depends on surrounding text, navigation to linked context, or images outside the selection. If context matters, print the full page instead and use the preview to see what the PDF includes.

Review the final file, not just the settings
After saving, open the PDF and skim the beginning, middle, and end. Confirm that the intended content appears, the text is legible, and page breaks did not split a table or section in an unhelpful place. If something is wrong, return to the print preview and adjust the relevant option rather than repeating the entire process with unrelated settings changed.

Troubleshooting: when the PDF does not look right
- The PDF destination is missing. Print destinations and labels depend on the browser, operating system, and system dialog. Check the destination dropdown or system print dialog for a PDF option; Edge and Firefox expose PDF workflows, but the exact controls can differ.
- Text or images are cut off. Return to the preview and try a scale option such as fit to printable area, or adjust paper size or margins if those controls are available. Recheck legibility after scaling.
- The saved PDF is blank or missing page content. Check the preview first. A page may present a different print layout from its screen layout. Try printing without a simplified mode, or use a reader mode only if the page supports it and the preview shows the required content.
- The PDF has too much surrounding clutter. Try Edge Immersive Reader on a supported page or Firefox Simplified when available. These options are not universal and can alter page appearance.
- Background colors or graphics disappeared. Check the background-graphics setting where available. In Firefox, Simplified format cannot be combined with print backgrounds, so choose which outcome matters more.
- The PDF is difficult to read after fitting the page. A fit-to-area setting may shrink content. Try a different paper size, margins, or scale, and inspect the preview instead of assuming the entire webpage can fit on one page at readable size.
- A selected-content PDF lacks context. Print the whole page instead, or expand the selection if the browser’s output includes the necessary surrounding material.
What to know about the result
A browser-generated PDF is a document rendition of a webpage, not a guarantee of an exact visual copy. The available print settings and simplified modes vary by browser, system, version, and page. The most reliable practical check is the preview before saving, followed by a quick inspection of the saved file. For the documented desktop Edge and Firefox workflows, the browser’s built-in print path is sufficient; a separate converter is not inherently required.
