For a single web page or local HTML file, open it in Microsoft Edge, press Ctrl+P, choose Save as PDF, check the preview, and save. Adjust the paper size, scaling, headers and footers, or background graphics before saving if the preview is clipped or missing visual details. For a multi-page website, advanced conversion settings, or repeatable app-driven output, use Acrobat’s website conversion tools or Microsoft WebView2’s PDF printing capability.
Convert a web page or local HTML file with Edge
Edge’s print workflow is the simplest choice for a page you can already open in the browser. It works for an online page and a local .html file, and lets you inspect the result before creating the PDF.
- Open the web page in Edge. For a local file, open it in Edge using the browser’s file-opening workflow or open the HTML file from File Explorer.
- Press Ctrl+P. Alternatively, open Settings and more (the three-dot menu) and choose Print.
- In the print dialog, choose the PDF destination, usually Save as PDF, and inspect the preview.
- Choose a paper size and scaling option. If content is cut off, try Fit to printable area. Use Actual size when keeping the source scale is more important than fitting the page.
- Turn on Background graphics if the preview lacks background colors, shaded areas, or background images. Turn on Headers and footers only if you want details such as the page title, URL, date, or page number.
- Select Save or Print, choose a filename and folder, then open the PDF to check page breaks and links.
Microsoft’s Edge print instructions document these controls, including scaling, headers and footers, and background graphics. The preview is important: it shows how the browser is laying out this particular page before you save it.
When Edge is enough
Use Edge for a single article, receipt, confirmation page, documentation page, or short local HTML document. It is a practical no-extra-converter route when the page already renders correctly in the browser and you only need a PDF of that page.

Convert a website or local HTML file with Acrobat
Adobe Acrobat offers a broader conversion workflow than printing the current browser page. Adobe documents converting an open page with its browser extension, as well as using Acrobat desktop to enter a URL or select an HTML file. The desktop workflow can capture multiple levels or an entire site, with limits such as restricting capture to the same path or server.
Convert an open page with the browser extension
- Open the page in a supported browser with the Acrobat extension available.
- Choose the extension’s Convert to PDF command.
- Name the resulting PDF and save it.
This is suited to an open page when you want Acrobat’s conversion rather than the browser’s print dialog. Adobe’s documented extension workflow is a page conversion; use Acrobat desktop when you need the additional scope and settings below.
Convert a URL, file, or larger site from Acrobat desktop
- Open Acrobat’s web-page conversion workflow.
- Enter the page URL or browse to a local HTML file.
- Choose whether to capture one page, multiple levels, or an entire site, where those options are available.
- Set capture boundaries, such as limiting the crawl to the same path or server, to keep the conversion within the intended site area.
- Review the conversion settings, create the PDF, and inspect the output.
Acrobat’s documented settings include encoding, image conversion, bookmarks, PDF tags, headers and footers, page size, orientation, and scaling. These controls are useful when a basic browser printout does not provide the document structure or layout options you need. Adobe’s documentation does not establish identical output for every dynamic or script-heavy website, so inspect the generated PDF rather than assuming every page state or embedded asset will carry over.

Keep a local HTML file’s assets together
A local HTML file may refer to stylesheets, images, fonts, and scripts using relative paths. Keep those assets alongside the HTML file in the expected folder structure before opening or converting it. Otherwise, the browser or converter may show missing styling or images. Acrobat documents local HTML file input, but that does not guarantee identical rendering for every script-dependent file.

Use WebView2 for a Windows application
For a Windows app that displays web content and needs repeatable PDF output, Microsoft WebView2 provides a PrintToPdf capability. It prints the current top-level document to a PDF file, and can be used for silent printing from an application.
This is a developer-oriented route, not a replacement for the Edge print dialog when a person is converting one page manually. The key boundary is that the documented capability targets the current top-level document; it is not described here as a whole-site crawler. Integrate it into an app that already hosts the WebView2 content, then handle the output file and any application-specific success or error reporting.

Fix common conversion problems
The PDF cuts off part of the page
- Check the Edge preview before saving.
- Change from Actual size to Fit to printable area.
- Try a different paper size or orientation if the page is wider than the current sheet.
- For Acrobat, review page size, orientation, and scaling settings.
Background colors or images are missing
In Edge, enable Background graphics and review the preview again. A page may intentionally rely on background styling that is not included in the printout unless this option is enabled.
The page title, date, URL, or page numbers appear unexpectedly
Turn off Headers and footers in Edge’s print settings if these details add clutter. If you want those details in the output, enable the option deliberately and confirm their placement in the preview.
A long website is only partly included
Printing from Edge captures the current page rather than crawling a site. Use Acrobat desktop’s multi-level or entire-site capture when you need broader coverage, and set same-path or same-server limits to control which pages are included.

A local page has missing styles, fonts, images, or behavior
Check that the HTML file’s referenced assets are present at the relative paths the page expects. Reopen the file and confirm that it renders correctly before converting it. Script-heavy pages may depend on runtime behavior that a conversion workflow does not reproduce identically.
An application needs repeatable PDF creation
Use WebView2’s PrintToPdf capability for a Windows application displaying the document. If a manual Edge print workflow is unreliable, confirm that the app is printing the intended top-level document and that its file-handling logic is checking for the output it expects.
