In Firefox, choose Save full page or Save visible, download the PNG, and use an export or Save As command to create a .jpg file. Renaming .png to .jpg does not convert the image data.
Decide what you need before capturing: the current browser window, a selected region, one element, or the entire page. A full-page capture can be extremely tall; a visible capture is easier to share. If you need a readable, paginated document rather than one long image, use the browser’s print workflow instead.
Choose the right output before you start
- Visible viewport: only the portion currently on screen.
- Full page: the complete scrollable page in one tall image.
- Region or element: a selected area, card, chart, or other page component.
- Document: a paginated print/PDF result, which may reflow content instead of matching the screen.
JPEG uses lossy compression. It is convenient for smaller photographic images, but fine text, diagrams, and repeated editing generally stay sharper in the original PNG. Keep the PNG as a source file when quality or later edits matter.
Firefox: capture a page, then export it as JPEG
Firefox’s built-in screenshot feature is the simplest no-install route. Mozilla documents the downloaded screenshot as a PNG, so conversion is a separate second step. See Mozilla’s Firefox screenshot instructions for the current interface.

- Open the web page in Firefox and wait for the content you need to finish loading.
- Right-click an empty area of the page and select Take Screenshot. You can also press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- Choose Save full page for the entire scrollable page, or Save visible for the current viewport. You can alternatively drag a custom region or select an automatically highlighted page part.
- Download the capture. Firefox saves this screenshot as a PNG file.
- Open the PNG in an image editor or converter, choose Export, Save As, or an equivalent command, select JPEG or JPG, set a quality level if offered, and save under a new filename such as
page.jpg. - Open the resulting file and confirm that its format is JPEG. Do not simply change the filename extension; that leaves PNG data inside the file.
Full-page captures and lazy-loaded content
Some pages load images or sections only as you scroll. If a full-page screenshot contains blank areas, scroll through the page once first, wait for images to appear, and capture again. Cookie dialogs, newsletter prompts, and chat bubbles can also cover content; close or dismiss them before taking the screenshot.
JPEG quality and dimensions
Use the highest practical quality when the image contains small type. Exporting repeatedly compounds JPEG artifacts, so convert once from the original PNG rather than opening and resaving the JPEG many times. If the image is too large for an upload limit, resize a copy after conversion and retain the full-resolution PNG.
Firefox Developer Tools for elements, timing, and scale
Developer Tools add controls that the basic screenshot menu does not. Mozilla’s Firefox screenshot documentation describes a screenshot toolbar button, an Inspector capture option, and the Web Console :screenshot helper. The documented output filename uses a .png extension, so export that file to JPEG afterward.
Capture a specific element
- Open Developer Tools with F12 or Ctrl+Shift+I (use Command+Option+I on macOS).
- Open the Inspector and select the element you want, such as a product card or chart.
- Use the Inspector’s screenshot action (or the screenshot toolbar button) to capture the selected node.
- Save the PNG, then export it as JPEG in an image editor.
Use the Web Console helper
In the Web Console, the :screenshot helper supports options including --fullpage, a delay, device-pixel-ratio, a filename, a CSS selector, and clipboard output. A typical full-page capture is:

Because the helper’s documented output is PNG, perform the same JPEG export step after the command completes. A delay can help when a page renders asynchronously; a selector is useful when you need one component rather than the whole document.

Chrome extension route: verify JPG support first
The Chrome Web Store listing for GoFullPage – Full Page Screen Capture describes full-page capture. Its changelog records that version 3.7, dated 2018-03-20, added downloads as PNG or JPG through an options page. The listing also shows updates through 2026-09-24, but the historical changelog is not a guarantee that the current interface exposes the same control.
- Install the extension from its official Chrome Web Store listing.
- Open the target page and activate the extension from the browser toolbar.
- Wait while it scrolls and assembles the page, then open its export or options controls.
- Confirm that JPG is currently available before relying on the workflow. If it is not, download PNG and convert it with an editor.
Extensions can behave differently on pages with sticky headers, infinite scrolling, cross-origin frames, or aggressive bot protection. Test an important page and inspect the output before using the method in a batch process.
When printing is better than one enormous JPEG
If your goal is a document someone can read or print, use the browser’s print dialog instead of forcing the entire page into one tall bitmap. Microsoft Edge’s print documentation describes page selection, margins, scale, and background-graphics controls. You can print or save to a document format, then rasterize an individual page to JPEG only if a bitmap is required.

Troubleshooting conversion problems
The file still opens as PNG
Changing the extension does not change the encoded format. Reopen the original PNG in an editor and use its explicit JPEG/JPG export command.

The full-page image is cut off
Try Firefox’s Save full page rather than Save visible. For dynamic pages, scroll through once to trigger lazy loading, then capture again. Developer Tools’ --fullpage option or an automated full-page setting can help when the basic capture fails.
Text looks fuzzy or blocky
JPEG compression is lossy. Export at a higher quality, avoid repeated resaving, and retain PNG for text-heavy or archival work. A retina/device-pixel-ratio capture can provide more source pixels before conversion.
A popup or consent panel hides the page

The page is blank or times out in automation
Check that the URL is reachable without an interactive login, allow sufficient wait time for JavaScript, and inspect the returned status and response headers. Print output does not match the screen
